  1. Dependent on the brand as well, but a lot of the plugin units will come with some of the normally optional extras like DBW, VVT and the like included in the standard unit, if the car needs those functions to run, compared to the same unit as a standalone that you then have to option up. Also the plugins are much quicker to install.
  2. And the lotus' proboscis are not equal length either!, with the left one about 5cm longer.
  3. I had this issue with a Link G4, I had installed the software for a G4+ leading to the firmware errors and the unit staying offline, make sure that you have the correct software package installed.
  4. Niki did the same thing to Bobby Rahal at Jaguar, came in as a consultant, told the Ford board that everything was being done wrong (even thought Rahal had managed to get Newey on board) ended up taking over the place and screwing it up.
  5. My neighbor at work has one, it seems to spend most of the time in the shop getting fixed, the latest issue that he had with it was that one of the ancillary drive belts stretched (on a car that has done less than 10,000ks) and wore through the upper radiator hose, resulting in a rapid loss of coolant. He had the car off the road for nearly two weeks because of that as they didn't have a replacement upper radiator hose in Australia.
  6. I hadn't heard that little gem before, what a joke!
  7. I'd rather watch R/C cars racing than than FormulaE, if that is what they are going to be like, especially with the ridiculous 100m dash that the drivers have to do in the middle of the race when they change cars after 20 minutes.
  8. Getting it across Bass Straight will be a large proportion of that cost, it may be cheaper to fly over there and pickup the car, and then drive it home.
  9. http://www.news.com.au/finance/business/toyotas-fate-sealed-by-federal-court-ruling/story-fnkgdhrc-1226782002606 Toyota wants to restructure their EBA to make the company more effective and reduce costs, they want to have a vote of all employees as to whether they can proceed with negotiating on the changes and 4 employees take them to the high court and win, stopping the vote from happening. The current EBA expires in March 2015, anyone want to bet that the bosses at Toyota will now be seriously contemplating keeping the business alive here?
  10. How can you forget that Lilydale has a small industrial area? half the place is an industrial area! or did you lose the Cavehill estate amongst all of the others?

  12. So not a D22, mine sucked for towing, even when almost brand new. I had my WRX (early shape) on a light weight trailer for and all up load of about 1900kg, and it couldn't maintain 80kp/h into a slight headwind, and going up hills was even worse, I took it to Nissan, and they gave it a clean bill of health, it got run on a dyno and the figures that it made where line ball with the stated outputs for the engine as well.
  13. If you haven't had a period of time that the engine is in vacuum, such as being on the throttle most of the time between brake applications, the situation that you have described can occur, as the booster system will not have had a chance to recharge. Without looking at the car, I would suggest that it isn't the booster itself that has failed, as the one way valve that is connected to the manifold and is supposed to only open when there is a vacuum in the manifold, is in need of a clean or replacement as it is not closing properly, and allowing for the booster system to be pressurised.
  14. When you say fail, do you mean that it has physically failed, or did you get on the brakes and found that you had no assistance?
  15. Correct, on next years engines there are two Motor/Generator Units (MGU). These MGU's are the primary KERS now called MGU-K, and the secondary ERS called MGU-H, the MGU-H is designed to recover lost energy from the exhaust heat (hence the -H in the name) by driving a generator unit connected to the turbine shaft. Depending on how much energy is recovered from the exhaust heat, the turbo's airflow will be modulated in accordance to the engines requirements, this motor will also be used to drive the turbine at low exhaust gas velocities, thereby removing any inherent throttle lag with the system.
  16. No wastegate apparently, they will be using the motor connected to the turbo shaft to control the speed of the shaft, and hence the boost pressure generated.
  17. Looks good Duncan, still a bit pricey unless you where doing a lot of them each week, so I'll stick to the manual one for the moment. I got a set of these http://www.machineryhouse.com.au/D108 the other day, they are really good for notching tube and hole cutting in thick section material.
  18. A mate of mine had the previous version of the unit, and I had used it a number of times and liked it, They also had a good sale price on them at the time that I was looking and then gave me a trade discount on top of that. Also, if you are going to be cutting material that is longer than 1m in length, get some sort of support for the material, as the vice isn't designed to hold that sort of force (especially soft materials), and the material can move during the cut. Also use cutting fluid, the blades will last a lot longer, and will also cut better/cleaner.
  19. I have one of Hare & Forbes EB260A bandsaws, they are a good unit but the standard blades are the weak point, for occasional usage they are fine, but you can get a lot better blades for them, and that totally changes the cutting performance, especially if you are willing to change the blade to suit what you are cutting. You can run a variable pitch blade to get you around most of the need to change, but if you are going to be cutting the same material of approximately the same dimensions, get the blade to suit, you will find that the performance of the unit will increase, and the blades will last longer as well.
  20. Driven was the Stallone movie Roy, I know the one that you are talking about but can't remember the name of it. A friend of mine worked for Village Roadshow at the time that Driven came out, and lent me a copy to get my feed back prior to them picking up the distribution rights, I said that it was crap and that people into racing wouldn't want to see it, other than as a comedy, and others wouldn't get it. However, the person who had the final say on the rights was a big Stallone fan and believed that he would be a big enough draw card to make the movie a success...
  21. Nothing is as good as Driven!
  22. Mark Webber being asked why he took so long to get out of the car after it had stopped.
  23. Drop saws such as Brodo's (cold style) have an advantage in that they remain true to the cut that you are making as the cutting disk is much stiffer, were as if the bandsaw blade losses tension it can wander and no longer make a true cut. The slow cutting of the Brodos can lead to them fouling the cutting teeth if use with aluminium based alloys, not such an issue with the bandsaws. Drop saws designed for aluminium use use a different tooth pattern and a higher cutting speed than those for ferrous materials.
