R30 Standard Engine Improvements
Ghostrider replied to Daewoo's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Darryl, FJ20et injectors are hose tail, direct replacement and 375cc as opposed to about 188cc in the L24e. A Z31 AFM might do something, as it flows a shit load more air than the L24e, or maybe the MX83 Cressida AFM as it's about twice the size of the L24e and there is a thread on AtlanticZ tech tips on how to modify it to suit and it looks the same as in configuration. The best bet is try to find a secondhand microtech that just controls fuel mapping, they are fairly cheap and come up often on ebay, so when you replace the AFM with bigger, change the injectors to FJ20et, put in a higher pressure/flow rate fuel pump, you will be able to programme it to run right. With a higher pressure fuel pump, you will have to get an adjustable fuel pressure regulator to allow the higher flow rate of fuel. Otherwise a good set of extractors (maybe Hurricane) and a free flow exhaust. No need for cats and as it's a khana car, you might get away with putting it out the side under the back door, so less bends and less chance of excessive back pressure. The best motor to work with comes out of series 2, after Aug 83 & 1984/85 as this engine has a 9:1 compression as opposed to the earlier 8.5:1 compression. Cheers, D -
That's very interesting, because ............... if you talk to Garrett at their head office in Chipping Norton NSW, they DO NOT MAKE a T04 flanged turbo of any description. I researched this for your DR30 as I have an HKS high mount turbo manifold with a T04 flange and Garrett cannot supply me with a turbo of ANY size to fit it. You might find you have a Chinese knock off??????? Cheers, D

Be very careful with what you buy CHEAP! In the performance world NOTHING is cheap, that's any good. A short time ago, ebay & other outlets were flooded with supposed US made T70 turbo's for $300~500.00, but truth was they were Chinese knock offs that were shipped to Australia via USA and they were junk. Go talk to Sam at Dr Drift in Melbourne, because he had one on a customers car and it WOULD NOT spool up. As I said, NOTHING is cheap in the performance car world! Cheers, D

Engine Should be offset to passenger side about same to compensate for driver weight, if distribution is the required result. Cheers, D

Hey MAG's, Have you seen that picture of the hatch in the picture thread? Your car could look just as impressive if you ever get your finger out and just do it. Cheers, D

I have the headlights & grille/filler, but promised to someone else. Sorta like a turbo I got in the sh!t about recently. Can probably do a standard front bar & spoiler, but you would need to fabricate some mounts for the spoiler. Other parties haven't come back to me yet, so cannot say either way at this stage. Front Bumper is easy! Any R30 will fit, but what year vintage have you got? 81/83 have the narrow bars & 84/85 have the wider ones. Headlights and grille/filler is a different story altogether, but not impossible. Will have to talk to a couple of guys to see what they say. Will let you know when I know more, but in the meantime, I need to know what vintage we're working with. Cheers, D -
Do you know the source of the picture I asked about, as I'm always trying to source PNV information. Also the color codes you seek? I have almost every JDM sales brochure printed on R30 Skylines from 81 through to 85 on both GT, RS & RSX and nothing shows a Gunmetal Grey over Black or Blue. The Grey is always 028 metalic & the Black is 826. Cheers, D

Is this car AND the Trading Post car the same, or do you now have two??? Cheers, D

http://www.conwire.com.au/ But I would guess they're closed for Christmas, like most manufacturing companies. You might have to provide a sample, as they will make anything to fit anything. Cheers, D

Why is everyone running off to use an R31 front sway bar? The oh! so! much stiffer front to a stock rear would enhance the understeer by leaps & bounds I would imagine. Cheers, D -

Wash your mouth out with soap. I just imported a full chrome plated honeycomb grille for my PNV and I think it looks excellent. Cheers, D -
As for the clutch, I'm not sure, but doesn't the Patrol clutch operate in the opposite direction as our L24 clutches do. I think your best served buying NEW clutches, as opposed to using secondhand, purely for the work effort needed to get them out once in the car. For a lousy couple of hundred dollars you can get a very good clutch, just make sure it's the right diameter. 225mm is the common for L24 & L28, but a 240mm option is available if you have the flywheel to match. Cheers, D

Hey Gordie, This is what they did to my F54 block re the dipstick. You can drill the block as it will look more original, as there is a flat that is where it goes. It's not an easy drill out, but still possible, as a few here have done it. If your going to drill the block, you have to be sure to blank off the rear oil pick up gallery just to be sure. Cheers, D

Both bought off ebay I presume????? These posters were sold on ebay a little while back, as I was watching them till the dollars went through the roof. I have both the GTR's and prints of them signed/autographed by the drivers along with the dunnydoor Jason Bright drove for HSV which is no longer procureable. They are safely packed away for my kids, when they are a bit more valueable. Cheers, D -

R30 Lower Control Arm Lengths
Ghostrider replied to works 510's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
Changing the crossmember? Unless the mount holes are identical to the 1600 or R30 & the rails need to be redrilled to suit, the engineer or Vic Roads is going to want to know about it. Using the R31 crossmember, I know the mount holes are different spacings, cutting & welding the rack mounts onto an R30 crossmember requires engineers approval. Depending on how picky your authorities are and in Vic they are pretty leaniant unless the car is being sold, the S13 bits might create a problem then. Don't know, but in NSW it's a bit tough, due probably to people like me when back in the 60's we were putting V8's in Morris Minors and 105E Anglias and 1800/2000cc MGB motors in A30's & A40 Farinas without a care in the world. I know 1 guy that put an 4.2 Jag motor into an FE Holden and the torque twisted the chassis/sub frame so that only 3 wheels touched the ground at any one time. Cheers, D
