Definately one of the best DIY threads ..huge $$ saving solution. My stagea was misfiring all over the shop on idle ...especially on a real hot day...pulled the coils out last night and smothered the coils with heat resistant silicone...got up at 5.30am this morning to put everything back together and now the car idles like a kitten. cracked the breather hose putting it back on but that was coz it was brittle with age (using electrical tape as a bandaid fix) there were 2 high temp silicone gels available at bunnings..401's which are heat resistant to 205 degrees ....and another one which which had a 4 hour fireproof rating Had time to think about the whole thing though...now since most of the cracks seem to appear to the side or bottom of the coils where it meets the rubber boot...then closest metal object where it would spark to is the metal cradle that holds the coils...i took extra precaution by running a thin layer of electrical tape around the cradle too << just thought its something u guys might consider doing.

may be a bit out of topic here...but im sure i have a broken coilpack but i need help on how to diagnose which one is stuffed...coz i dont want to go and replace all 6 does using a ammeter/multimeter to check be of any help? if so...which pins do i connect it to? Cheers

ok i think i've managed to sus out the problem with my car....have a hunch that its a stuffed coilpack coz i popped the bonnet when the car was idling funny...and noticed that i could hear a slight sparking sound coming from the engine just split second before the engine shudders and the misfire is heard on the exhaust. but how do i find out which of the 6 is stuffed? can anyone give me pointers on how to use a ammeter to test the coilpacks out?

Hi Peeps, Im thinking of cleaning my AFM but i may need to reset the ecu too. Just a couple of questions 1. car has a safc and dyno tuned...will disconnecting the ecu cause the SAFC to loose all tuning maps? (i.e: will i need to get it retuned) 2. resetting ecu -- disconnect battery and jump on brakes couple of times and go through a couple bundycokes before reconnecting battery<< did i miss anything.

read somewhere in another post that when the solders on the AFM becomes dry and cracks...when travelling on uneven roads the connections can move about slightly causing the car to jerk or shudder...then when on a flat road the revs become stable again...might be a faulty AFM which from what i hear is very common...doubt its the cv joint because when this wears out...the shudder or noise is quite consistent and doesnt go away. Dont know how a broken atessa feels ..maybe someone who's had this experience can share more. my car has developed this cough when idling...happens especially when hot but the car revs smoothly when driving....really buggin the shit outta me...changed and gapped plugs to 0.813mm ..so definately not that trying to go through the process of elimination too..so next week im gonna hafta clean the AAC and solder my AFM anyone who's had this before would really appreciate some help.

don't know if anyone here has the same issues....but my car seems to generate loads of static...when im parked after a long drive...closing the door sometimes jolts me with static ...don't know if this is a bad thing for the cars ecu.

darnit...my wagon started to develop the same missfire at idle...driving seems fine...think its bad but my safc is doing some correction...raised the boost to 10psi and gave it a good revving ....missfire seemed to have dissappeared for now....it started after a normal cruise to canning vale via tonkin n roe....temp outside was quite warm so i dont know if its temp related. hope its something easy to fix like plugs...or worst case air flow sensor and not a stuffed valve

ok my bad...it was an outsourced person (i.e: no copper uniform...and sitting in a white 4x4....think it is the multinova's ...laser/radar....damned if i knew...bloody thing looked like a friggin missile launcer waiting to blow up any hoon so what do u guys recommend for detecting multinova's? ...or do they generally trigger off the detector only if its targeted at ya?

my stag is a 97 S1 ..running 17*8 with 235/45's ...tien s-techs with factory shocks ..it doesnt handle near as good as an STi but i can run 120km/h on the freeway without any drama when changing lanes ...potholes dont throw the steering off that much...but thats prolly due to the lighter rims. i haven't done the alignments yet as tyre wear seems pretty even with a slight negative camber on the rear and straight line travel is still pretty good....however hearing what u guys said...im definately having second thoughts about switching to coilovers

i recently bought an el-cheapo whistler 1732 detector...my 2 cents 1. driving on highway...beeped twice (possibly from handheld) coz about 1km after..2 cars were pulled over by cops for speeding -dectector was on city mode with all bands turned on 2. detector was on quiet mode...beeped once passing a petrol station...no beeps after ...300yards on..there was a tripod mounted radar....made a u turn...and drove past the radar again ....detector did not give off a signal...u turn again...drove straight past the radar...no signal..but the guy was fiddling with the radar so it prolly wasnt turned on 2 hours later...drove past the radar again...still just the single beep from the petrol station...turned and drove past again...cop was dismantling the radar..so couldnt test further anyone know what band the tripod mounted radar uses?

i had a jap (unknown brand with a jasma stamp) cannon which was really2 loud...so i swapped that for an apexi megaphone which was supposed to be a tad bit quieter with possibly better flow...cant say i feel the difference in power and it still drones around 2000-3000 rpm (i.e: city drive rev range) Think i'll get an apexi super silencer to fit on the megaphone to tone it down a lil bit more.
