  1. So much easier with a hoist.. we always take the box out first. Pretty much have to drop the engine crossmember almost all the way off to get enough angle to get the gearbox in and out. Must say I would imagine it is a hell of a lot easier wiggling the box about to get it in than you having to wiggle the engine! Good luck!
  2. Nothing wrong with the NDC bearings, I think the culprit is the RB30E oil pump :S He did go through 3 sets of King bearings though, even ones that were installed by his machinist. I don't know what the deal was.
  3. My mechanic had bad experiences with King bearings when he had the motor in his car. So when we put it in my car we used NDC bearings. Only done 1000km but I'm getting pressure bleed off at idle.. going to put an N1 pump in next weekend (should have done it before but couldn't source one in time) and see if that helps.
  4. Nice work peoples! I just put an RB30DET in my 32 gtst, running a stock 25 turbo with stock rb20 ecu/injectors/afm. Going in for a tune on Tuesday with 550cc injectors and a z32 afm Good luck with all your projects!
  5. The remap did next to nothing on my RB20.. the power curve and afr curve were identical (did back to back runs on the dyno), but I did gain an extra 5hp at the top end. Also the valet mode map switching didn't work. On the plus side, limits were removed which was great as when I put the RB30 in it just hit R&R all time. RB30 is now running quite nicely on the remap from CEFFIE due to no R&R, so it wasn't a total loss Also because I had a cradle fitted to the spare ecu, that's $200 I save off my tune/remap next week If I didn't get this remap kit, I wouldn't have been enjoying my twincam 30 for the last 2 weeks
  6. Low 300's being in kW or HP? I'm only chasing 400rwhp as I don't think the standard rods will hold up to much more Would prefer to keep it as simple as possible and by the sounds of it the GT30 will be a response monster! I'm currently running a stock 25 turbo, that spools from idle and gives me full boost by 2000rpm. Got the 25 actuator on there until it gets tuned in an attempt to keep the boost down.. gives me about 6psi but creeps up to 12psi by 6000rpm if I keep my boot into it. When it gets tuned I'll put the 20 actuator on and set the ebc to run 12psi all the time.. should be an absolute ball tearer off the line but I predict the 25 turbo will disintegrate at some point
  7. Cubes and anyone else with a GT30 on a twincam 30.. how does it go? I have been considering a GT30R for my 30 (further down the track.. need to pay off the conversion first ) and was wondering how it would go bolting up to stock manifold. Cubes is yours internally gated?
  8. HICAS is easy to remove, a little more fiddly in a 32 as you have to cut power steering lines. I put a lockbar in a few weeks ago then when we had the engine out last week, I removed all the crap in the engine bay and to the back of the car. Looped the pump back into the resevoir and all is sweet. Car is much more predictable and a pleasure to drive
  9. That's nothing.. I was trying to call Midland and book a time for the pits the other day. For 25 minutes, non stop, I was dialing to either get an engaged signal after the menu put me through to Midland, or it would ring out. The guy that sits next to me picks up the phone and dials, chooses Midland and WHILE MY LINE IS STILL RINGING TO THEM, they pick up HIS call! I was so happy yet so angry at the same time O_o
  10. I know.. doesn't mean I can't be pissed off about it! The "recently adapted" bit is because I put the factory bov back on..
  11. I just ordered a set of 550cc Nippondenso high impedence top feed injectors with a set of plugs from Powerflow Injection I think they're called, they're over east and cost me $915 delivered. They had quite an extensive range so they should be able to sort you out. (I *think* SARD injectors are actually made by Nippondenso)
  12. If I put my bonnet up you won't be able to see the yellow sticker..
  13. Ouch dude, I got a sticker on Wednesday for only the 2 following reasons: - bonnet not sitting flush - no front grill The guy was an absolute wanker, tried to tell me my FACTORY bov was too loud. After presenting my permits - which seemed to confuse him further - he walked around the car and came back to the bonnet and said it didn't comply as it wasn't sitting flush at the front on the passenger side (was hitting on pipework but it was on the safety latch and I had cabled tied it just to be on the safe side). I now have the bonnet latching fully, already had a grill sitting at home.. now I have to take a day off work for this bullshit which probably won't pass. My mechanic says they always pick something. Here's hoping that they don't get the fine tooth comb out.. EDIT: OK so I had a better look at the papers (was pretty pissed off at the time) and I guess I made the mistake of telling him I put the factory bov back on as these are the actual items.. - Emission controls: recently adapted. - Other: bonnet to sit & secture correctly, front grill to be fitted I don't think cops should be allowed to defect you for anything other bald tyres or oil leaks unless they have sat a certified course of some such!

    Dyno Use

I'd use it for benchmarking and diagnosing. Can be hard to get into Hyperdrive on short notice sometimes.
  15. It's not so much the crossover pipe that's the problem, the crossover pipe is no higher than the strut brace that I had to remove. It seems to be mainly the location of the rb20 bov, also hitting on cooler pipe across the top of the fan. Will attack it with some fresh piping
  16. Set of forgies and just running everything that was on my rb20, standard injectors, rb25 turbo etc. Will be running a bigger set of injectors and a z32 afm when it gets tuned in a couple of weeks.
  17. I might be interested.. car is at the suspension shop today and will be tuned on the 30th.. would be a good opportunity to give this RB30 a hiding
  18. ^^ I used a 25DE head out of an R32, almost identical the the 20 in terms of layout and sensors etc. Only problem encountered was when I snapped the water temp. sensor, the 25DE item made it run in cold start all the time. Had to robbed one off an R32 RB26 manifold and it worked a treat. Car is running on the 32 gtst ecu so it should be just as easy with the 20 pfc
  19. On a whim we decided to build an RB30 and install it in my R32 on the weekend.. a rundown of what we used: - a prepped block, forged pistons (wisecos I think), rings and 25DE head that had done 5000km in another car. - standard crank and standard rods out of a quokka special RB30 - 25DE intake manifold - standard 25DE cams - 25DE rocker covers - swapped the exhaust manifold/turbo, fuel rail/injectors etc off the RB20 - New OEM headgasket and a few other little new things from Nissan (oil pickup o-ring etc) - NDC mains and bigends - RB25 s1 turbo that I had on the RB20 Block had already gone through a twincam conversion so was drilled/tapped for tensioners etc. We used all the sensors etc off the RB20 and it is currently running on the groupbuy remap from CEF1E. Bonnet doesn't close properly so I need to sort out the pipework (hitting on the bov and the cooler pipe over the fan) and it could really do with a tune.. got it booked in for the 30th but need to get a z32 afm and some injectors before then What a big weekend that was!! (even had the manson concert thrown in on saturday night!) Will update once tuned
  20. Need to make room for the RB30 that is now under the hood at the moment it's hitting on the stock bov and the cooler pipe that goes over the fan and connects to the crossover pipe. Going to try a 25det crossover pipe, that should buy me 20mm maybe and I'll get a couple of 45deg and a 90deg silicon bend and some more 2.5" pipe and attempt to get that pipe over the fan lower.. with a bit of fiddling I should be able to get it back down to where it was before the 30 went in. Cool, I spoke to the guy at GT Fibreglass aswell - he put a BA bulge in a friend of a friends' EL bonnet. If my piping adventure isn't succesful I'll be ringing around
  21. Just thought I'd update.. car is now running fine on the chipped ecu from the group buy.. with r&r removed it revs out but, I don't rev it past 5.5-6k or give it much of a hard time till it gets tuned.. 2 weeks away <sigh>
  22. Yeah that's what I'm discovering went to see a few shops yesterday.. I shall stuff around with the piping tonight and see if I can get away without modifying the bonnet.. It will be a toss up between the cheapest way to go.. custom bonnet, whole fibreglass bonnet, custom piping/forward facing plenum.. the last option really steps away from the "stock" under bonnet look I was hoping to maintain but oh well.. you gotta do what you gotta do
  23. Need to gain about 40mm down the middle section of the bonnet.. looks like I'm probably going to have to get a vented fibreglass bonnet O_o
  24. Indeed! the engine itself wasn't expensive, neither was the conversion (expensive in time and energy.. RB30 built, fitted and running in a weekend ). The expensive parts come now.. need some custom bonnet work, need a tune along with a z32 afm and some bigger injectors.. I can feel this 20 box isn't very happy being behind a 3L now so a 25 box is going to be needed soon O_o On the funny side.. got the RB25 turbo that I had on my 20 on there.. full boost by 2000rpm and no lag, instant boost! heh even untuned and running like shit it was pulling up a big hill in 5th at 2000rpm.. 3L ftw
  25. Any idea who can do custom bonnet work in Perth? either modify my bonnet or make me a custom one out of fibreglass or something?? HELP!
