  2. OK, just had my neighbour tell me who this is (but of course I promptly forgot his name ) but apparently he runs some pretty insane mazda rotaries at the drags and is just starting out. Going by the guys own cars I would say he may be worth trying out, and unlike a lot of so called Perth based "performance" mechanics he will work on all sorts of stuff from NA 4cyl all the way up to S/C BB V8's and everything in between.

FYI - the cam sensor is the big round silver thing hanging off the front of your engine right at the top, and without actually hearing the engine its too hard to say what the problem is, but if the CAS stuffs up, it may be sending some pretty weird info to the ecu OR it might have nothing to do with it. Do you have (or know anyone with) access to a consult cable? Cause this would tell you the problem straight away.
  6. It will only cause death and distruction if you turn the crank once you have removed the belt. (plus, hilarity will ensue for the rest of us) Just make sure you have your handbrake on. I did that once without it and damn near ran over myself with a corolla.
  7. ^^ but you may need to turn it. Just sticking the socket in there probably won't help you out much. (don't mind Mitchy, he is never in much of a hurry to get things done )
  8. If you are after an "industrial" kinda background, go down Rockingham road along the strip towards rockingham, and the last big place on your right is the BHP nickel refinery. You won't be let on site, but their is a road that runs right around the perimeter and if you go around the back between the refinery and Kwinana beach there is some good places you can set up with various parts of the refinery billowing steam and stuff. It looks awesome at night with all the sodium vapour lamps on too. Make sure post the end result up where ever you decide.
  9. Yeah, good point Nick - the thing you need to look at is on the face of the timing case, there are a series of tabs that the timing mark on the harmonic balancer line up with. They are actually numbered too if you look closely (well, a couple are anyway) and 0 is TDC. Another handy hint, for when the balancer is off, as in mid timing belt change, is the woodruf key (half moon shaped jobbie) for the balancer is at exactly 12 o'clock. For the cams there are a dot cast in to the front face of the head and a corresponding dot cast into the face of both cam gears, but these are only visible one the timing case is off, and to get the case off you need the balancer off, hence where my hint about the key comes in handy

  16. +11ty - If you have ever had a fan grab hold of the power leads of a timing light right in the middle of setting the timing on a grumpy old 308 (dizzy at the back of the engine, not a fun task at the best of times...) then you would join me in celebrating Nicks wisdom

  21. I got hit by one as a kid on my skateboard, and after I had got over the initial shock/anger, I realised how piss funny it was and have never managed to pass up an opportunity since. Mind you, being the wanker kinda makes you assume everyone else is gonna do it so you learn to stay right away from roadside puddles.
