  1. Ska, that probably is enough insurance for the turbo to slow down enough. (like you, I drive nice 'n easy for the last 3-5 minutes of a drive and I only use my 30sec timer on short drives anyway) but did you ever do a shaft movement check on the 33? You probably would have had a bit of a fright if you did. The thing is, this is the main reason that turbo charged engines used to have a reputation for having very short service lives up until fairly recently. I have been involved in SOS (scheduled oil sampling) for diesels and I can tell you that the presence of bearing metal in the oil is the first sign that the engine is not being cared for properly, and this usually comes from the turbo cartridge before anywhere else. The thing you have to remember about turbo's is they usually degrade so slowly that you don't realize how much they have crapped themselves until they go sub-nuclear and you replace them (and the motor) and think "wow! this thing has got HEAPS more power!"
  2. The thing is, contrary to popular belief, the timer isn't there to "cool" the turbo down, but to allow it to slow or stop spinning. Even when your car is "off" boost, you still have a certain amount of exhaust pressure causing the turbine to spin. About the only time the engine is not producing enough pressure to do this is at idle. I fully agree with Ska in regards to driving lightly for the last few minutes - its a great idea for even NA cars, but the problem is, even if your turbo is only pulling 5ooorpm when you pull into the drive (as opposed to 15000-20000 rpm when on boost) do you really want to cut off its oil supply immediately? IMO, it is cheap insurance against swallowing the innards of a turbo which will destroy your engine, no questions asked.
  3. Does this mean we have another one for the cruise on Sunday? C'mon down to at least one of the meet points so we can all have a drool. I am really looking forward to getting some photos of as many stags together as possible. Oh, and love the wheels too. If anyone had told me without showing that gold centres on a red car would look good I don't think I would believe them, but having seen it,
  4. *sweeeeeet* on both accounts.
  5. This was gonna be a message telling you I am bringing a mate in his R33 but he burnt his clutch out last night LOL! Anywhoo, is there any chance we can get the map (before the meet in Murdoch) in case we get there a little late? (I have a wife and 2 daughters so this is a distinct possibility!)
  6. Its pretty sad that the people resonsible obviously have no idea about the meaning of the image they are using. All "taggers" should be hung by their testicles from the town gate....
  7. I will! Sold mine to get the Stagea in the first place!
  8. Don't be such a big woos Heath. Gotta be like 20 minutes max and you will have a selection of up to 10-12 stags to drool over. Then we will all have the added bonus of driving all the way to the weir laughing hysterically at the mini shaped speck in the rear view mirror!
  9. Yep, I'll be there with bells on. I can't wait to finally put some faces to names (and bust my diet at the chocolate factory ) I haven't actually started on the boost gauge yet, still trying to nut out the install on my R34 intercooler, but all the photos 'n stuff I have got here so far will make it a fairly straight forward procedure it looks like.
  10. No, mine was a different kettle of fish altogether. Suffice to say that I wouldn't recommend this bunch of d1ckheads if they were the only ones doing stagea compliance. Mine should never have been complied and it was only because it was the test car (first stagea in WA) that some rather glaring differences weren't picked up. The best advice I can offer is talk to the complier before you hand over any cash. If they say ANYTHING that makes you think twice, be prepared to go away and keep looking. I was only joking when I made the (ironic) comment about a lack of experience. You need someone that knows stageas, not just imports
  11. Silly question - why not just buy a RWD Stagea?
  12. the difference is, if anyone knows what was done to it in Japan. If you can find a compliance shop with 0 experience, they will probably comply it without even knowing that anything is amiss. Well, thats what happened with mine.
  13. ...sneezer??? Yep, I love it. Having ever owned falcodores 'n such before it is a bit of a novelty, but the shine is starting to wear off when you are driving and you get some tool in a riced up lancer doing laps around you on the freeway trying to read all the badges. Such is the life of a individual I suppose.
  14. weather forecast from www.bom.gov.au Wednesday Very hot. Humid later. Min 25 Max 40 Thursday Humid. Fine. Min 19 Max 30 Friday Fine. Min 16 Max 29 Saturday Fine. Min 17 Max 30 Sunday Fine. Min 18 Max 31 Monday Fine. Min 17 Max 28 Looks like its gonna be a beauty! Tomorrows gonna suck tho....
  15. Ska I don't suppose you have a slightly bigger picturethan that? Its kinda hard to make out at that res. Cheers
  16. That would be awesome! I was a little cheesed when I realised that no one had stuck something like this in the DIY section before as it is one of the more obvious mods to be undertaken on a stagea you would think, and I am a complete and utter nOOb when it comes to the finer points of turbo ownership.
  17. same again for the cargo net/barrier if available
  18. Mmmmm....nipple *drools* insert childish giggle here. Thanks for that.
  19. Can anyone help with photos or links on how and where to connect a boost gauge? I want to install one, and I have the fitting to the cabin part all sorted but it has dawned on me, having never owned a turbo charged car before, that I have no idea where to plug the gauge into to get a consistent and accurate reading. any help will be hugely appreciated.
  20. quote name='AlexCim' date='2 Feb 2007, 01:17 PM' post='2874468'] Same steering wheel and similar dash. Is it just me or does that SR have a dizzy instead of coilpacks? Yes, yes it does.... WTF? [
  21. 1500kgs with a SR20???? Hrmm, I think I'll pass, thanks. does look good tho.
  22. Whilst this may be true in theory, having driven mine around for a week with a stuffed front driveshaft, I can tell you that the front wheels are under power a LOT more than you would think. I could tell when the fronts were coming on due to the knocking from the shagged uni and I discovered that the front wheels were being driven even at a cruising speed about 80kph. IMO its only the ratio of f/r that changes with the attesa, not wether the fronts are being turned on and off.
  23. problem is - bubbles popping inside your coolant are basically small explosions = corrosion. Get it checked before it eats away at something. Even if it is something as simple as a unbled coolant system, get it fixed asap
