Cover Car Of Drift Heaven Mag Dec Issue
Stinky Rooster replied to funkymonkey's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Does that explain the shots of the modded strut towers? I was wondering what that had to do with the rest of it. I mean, the turbo that was capable of swallowing a small child was pretty self explanatory, but I couldn't figure out what the re-welded strut tops were trying to show. -
Only problem with that, is the dvd player doesn't have any speaker level out - it is transmitting to the head unit via a fm modulator (that I connected the noise supressor to) and the HU amps it up and puts it out to the speakers. Also, the dvd player doesn't have a tuner so I am still using the HU for the radio - its only the tape deck thats unused. Does anyone out there have any good reason why I shouldn't just go and buy 2 more noise supressors and put one on the power to the dvd player and one on the power to the head unit? I know it may be overkill, but thats how p1ssed off I am getting. I have never seen a setup produce this much noise without any amps or anything..

Any chance of getting some info on the auto rollup kit? I have been trying to find one of these for my Stagea as my kids have never been in a car with 'lectic windows before and I am getting REALLY sick of having to restart the ignition (and turbo timer) every time I get out because one of them has not wound their bl00dy window up. On the same topic, is it possible to turn the kit off? Like if you are parked up and you WANT the windows to be left partially down?
-
No, thats the really annoying part about it - the whine is only eveident when I am using the dvd player. The HU is an older model that has a (unused) tape deck - I use the dvd player for my cd's

I feel your pain - I did the same thing on the kenwick link a couple of years ago, but it was a chevron sign (the black and white arrows at the end of a t-juction) that was in the middle of the cycle path. It was the one on the north side at the end of Beckenham St and it still has the bent leg if anyone wants to see. I got all angry about it and sent a photo of my destroyed bike and my injuries to the main roads dept, telling them that if they moved the sign and paid for my bike repairs (quote attached) I would not sue them, and 3 weeks later I had a cheque in the mail!. Dan - if you want some company on your bridges ride, you should suggest a day and time and a meet point and I'll be there - riding with other people allways makes it a lot more enjoyable - not to mention the ability to draft!

How To: Stagea Headunit/stereo Removal
Stinky Rooster replied to AlexCim's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Your right - that is weird.... Maybe it is one of those things like Honda and BMW fitted to their bikes a while back - the big tourers that had stereos fitted as standard (I kid you not!) had a natty little feature that raised the volume as the road speed increased so you could hear your choons over the wind noise. Yet another trap for young players in the wonderful world of japanese imports -
I have a Nesa dash mounted DVD player in my S1 Stagea that transmits audio to an old JVC HU on an FM freq via a modulator with a lot of engine noise. The noise (whine) rises and falls with revs so I am pretty sure it is alternator interference, but the confusing bit is that the noise is only when the dvd player is on (playing or not) and not when the HU is playing radio. I have tried a 5 amp supressor (no amps or such at this stage) on the FM modulator but it hasn't made any difference so I am at a bit of a loss as where to go next, any suggestions would be appreciated.

but mechanically, it appears to be identical to the s1 260?? seems like a bit of a premium to pay for the later model sheetmetal....

Stagea Idling Problem And Fuel Consumption
Stinky Rooster replied to JUN's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Mine surged like you are describing when I first test drove it due to a partially flat battery - as soon as I got a decent drive out of it the problem disappeared like magic and it has been fine since... Bad engine earth maybe? -

Can Anyone Hear A Beeping Noise?
Stinky Rooster replied to Stinky Rooster's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I dunno about anyone else, but I have never had this alarm in any car I have ever driven and I have never stepped on the go pedal by mistake when I am in reverse, and if you the type of person to make a careless mistake like that, I would pray that I am not sharing a road with you while you are piloting a turbo charged anything! -
Getting Good Radio Reception?
Stinky Rooster replied to Burns's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I get awesome reception all the time in mine - JVC head unit fitted when I got the car. (except in the "Poly Pipe" LOL!) Just lucky I guess.... BUT - The main head unit is a tape deck only, so I have to use the dvd player to play CD's and the dvd player transmits to the head unit on a FM frequency, and when I do this, I get some pretty awful engine noise coming through so the speakers, so without wanting to hijack anyones thread, if anyone has any good ideas on how to get rid of this please PM me -
OK, I give up, does anyone have any ideas on how to disable the reversing alarm in a series 1 Stagea? I have seen some stupid ideas in cars in my time, but a reversing alarm that can only be heard INSIDE the cabin??? I mean, c'mon! I have looked and looked but I can't figure out where it is coming from and I would really like to disconnect it, while still keeping my reversing lights etc working so if anyone has any ideas....

Stagea Tie Rod Replacement, How
Stinky Rooster replied to kiwi_rock's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
If you have 2 hammers, I have always found it useful to put 1 against the side of the eye (that the ball joint) is located in, and give the other side a few hard taps with the other hammer. It sometimes helps to "wake up" the lock on the taper and help loosen it when you knock it from the top. This problem occurs with every ball joint I have ever done so you are not an orphan here mate! -
No offense mate, but that is a big call to make when you don't know the full story - I agree he is trying to make a name for himself, but the price I paid for my stag was literally thousands less than his competition was asking, and not very far off what I was looking at spending on a private import anyway. I do agree with youI did the sums and I picked everyones brain on this site for 4 months, as well as looking at all the import companies in Australia before I laid down the cash. The loss of a compliance plate is also a non issue - there have only been 100 Stagea's complied in WA in the last 3-4 years so 1 out of 100 is not a big deal. When all is said and done, yes you might save a few bucks bringing one in yourself, but for me (and I am pretty sure I'm not an orphan here) if you have never owned an import before then the risk you face buying one blind from another country from a person you have never met is a big worry. Not to mention the statutory warranty.....
-
Mate, I am guessing you will have got some "advice" dealing with the people you have mentioned, all I can say is that I just bought the first Stagea off the second company in Perth to get compliance and I can't recommend them highly enough. Go and check out http://dcimports.com.au/ and have a chat to Regan and Shaun (tell them Dale sent you) and you will be on the road to what you want. My S1 came from them with a genuine 84K on the clock and the one problem I had with the car they were falling over themselves to fix. They changed my impression of car salesmen and I loved the fact that I could see and drive the car before I bought it so I know what you are saying. Everything Brad says makes sense too (no matter how much you can / cannot trust the salesman) and have a close read of the buyers guide sticky. I used all this stuff to buy mine and I don't regret it for a minute.

NOICE! -
the easiest way I can think of is to have a look at the front driveshaft - the S1 stagea has a straight shaft, but the GTR one steps up in diameter half way along - check the thread about gearbox/centre diff probs started by yours truly and you will see a photo of the 2 shafts side by side. Hope this helps

Well, I guess that answers all my questions then... Yes, I am a noob (did you read my username?) and what I am trying to do is get a good feel of the type of people that frequent a forum. What led me here in the first place was the fact that I was getting really tired of the whole "anti-ricer" mentality encumbent in the traditional car club scene and the subsequent stereotyping and put down's I have seen of someone trying to think outside of the square. I guess I am just a little disappointed to come here and find the same thing in reverse. I promise never to darken your doorsteps with my nasty liberal mindedness again. *slinks off meekly**

Am I detecting a bit of animosity towards the V8 boys here? Methinks you all need to have a bit of a look at yourselves. Stereotyping like this just makes you look like a bunch of insecure kids with a chip on your shoulder. I own an imported Nissan (S1 Stagea) and I actually really enjoy the V8 supercar series. Does this mean I should start wearing a flanno shirt and bag all the "ricers" out every chance I get and accuse them all of being chequebook street racers? Just my 2 cents, so flame away

Stinky Rooster replied to AlexCim's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I was going to ask the same thing myself.... Maybe rice? -
Well, anything under $200 and you can put me down as a definate - heaps cheaper than trying to get the dash reskinned thats fer sure
