  1. I'd believe GTSBoy... But if you need more info. This page has more info than you could ever want on intercoolers. http://www.are.com.au/techtalk/intecoolersMR.htm My new intercooler is an ARE, given the information they've put together on that page, they clearly know what they're talking about.
  2. I just had a quick read about the Skyline ECU on the Adaptronic website, but couldn't find any info on this feature. Can you explain a little more on how it works and connects?
  3. I just flicked through all 22 pages... Pretty nice build mate The read cost me $140 though... As soon as I saw you could buy new door handles, I ordered a set on eBay. [emoji15]
  4. I haven't updated this in a while, but I've decided to get on the tools and get a few mods done to my car over these Christmas holidays. Things that I've purchased are, a complete brand new engine and alternator wiring loom from wiring specialties (in the U.S.), a new Nismo fuel pump, a new Nismo clutch bracket and a new ARE intercooler. The loom is still a few weeks away and it is the most expensive of these mods, but I've never been happy with the dodgy loom I've been living with. It was spliced together by an auto electrician when I did the RB25DET conversion over 10 years ago. I got the clutch bracket swapped over this morning, it's not a particularly difficult job and took around 40 mins... The most frustrating part was getting the release spring back on. Here is the new bracket beside the stock one, there's not a lot different to it. Just the extra piece circled, some extra tac welds and of course the Nismo grey paint, which adds an addition 5 bhp. The reason I chose to swap it out was because I was hearing some squeaking from the clutch pedal, as you can see by the below pic I had a crack in the bracket.
  5. Everyone's circumstance is different, but for me the only reason I have stuck with a Power FC for over a decade is because of the hand controller. I have a wideband permanently wired in and like option to tweak my tune from time to time. It has also been extremely handy in diagnosing faults with the car over the years. Finally this appears like a modern computer that can let me upgrade and also give the benefits of what the hand controller does via a tablet. As for the speed of Bluetooth for tuning that's probably for someone who has experience with this ECU to answer, rather than speculation.
  6. They make tablets with 3" screens? This is news to me.
  7. Geoff, do you have any idea when the variable twin scroll will hit the streets? And what housings it will be available in?
  8. Josh the ECU looks pretty cool. If it gets Mac/iOS support down the track I may be handing over my money! Love the Bluetooth feature, it would be sweet if that expands to tuning in the future and we can ditch the bloody laptop/cables.
  9. Another thing to keep in mind is you are running quite thin oil (30 hot weight). For years I used 10W40 as that was recommended for the engine, but always suffered oil misting out of the cam shaft seals (with multiple seal replacements over the years (and different catch can setups) to try and solve the problem. I went to 10W50 oil and that pretty much fixed the problem. Oil technology is getting pretty awesome these days... I now use Hi Tech 10W60 fully synthetic oil. So it has the same cold viscosity as your 10W30, but does't thin out so much when hot. I'm not saying that the thin oil is definitely the cause of the amount of blow by you have experienced, but it may be a factor.
  10. I have a mate who's drift car (with RB30/26DET) puts out 450 rwkw through a HDi intercooler. So sure you can force the air through the china cores to make reasonable power... but it begs the question, how much extra power would it make with a decent cooler? At the same time the tune would probably be safer due to lower intake temps.
  11. This isn't really new technology, as it's very similar in concept to a quick spool valve... http://www.enginebasics.com/Advanced%20Engine%20Tuning/Quick%20Spool%20Valve%20Test.html But being incorporated into the housing it should be an improvement on the quick spool valve due to less turbulence in the exhaust flow. Hopefully it's released soon so we can see some data.
  12. Wow... I've been considering upgrading to the 7163 based on some of the info found online. But as it now may even be more responsive in variable twin scroll, it looks like I'll be waiting for some results of this new turbo.
  13. I'm going to do back to back testing of my old HDi cooler vs my new ARE cooler this week... I'll post the results on here to add to the knowledge base.
  14. Yeah, alignment is fine and all the bushes (including subframe) have been replaced with Whiteline/Nolathane. But the car don't want to squat. I'm wondering if the MCA X-C coilovers will be no worse (comfort wise) for a street car, but allow more squat and rear traction.
  15. I'm currently having a custom loom made up by them and have found Yuri to be very helpful... Try emailing him at [email protected]
  16. It's more grip, as the front wheels are arcing on different diameters as you go round the turn. i.e. The inner wheel is on a tighter circle. Aa stated earlier this will bring in other compromises... Less grip under braking, straight line stability etc.
  17. What are you initial thoughts on this coil over package when compared to the SK Bilstein kit? I've been running the SK kit in my R32 for the last 10 years or so and I'm generally pretty happy with it. But I'd love some more rear traction. The new rear shock/spring package of yours looks very different!
  18. Maybe not, but I've read mixed reviews on Walbro pumps, where as I've heard no negative comments about the Nismo pumps. It also includes everything for a painless swap, including the large o'ring that seals the fuel pump opening. The flow of the Nismo pump is a good match for the rest of my gear (injectors, turbo etc) so the higher flow rate of the Walbro would be a waste.
  19. Lots of Nismo hate... And I've bought two Nismo items in the past 4 days [emoji15] One of those items was a fuel pump... I can't bag the price of Nismo too much - the identical Tomei fuel pump was double the money of the Nismo!
  20. Also it looks like you've hit some sort of flow restriction (possibly the rear housing as stated earlier) as it holds around the 500 rwkw mark for around 2500 rpm! What intercooler are you running?
  21. Awesome result... I'm keen to see the difference when you bolt the EFR turbo on - is it still in the works?
  22. That does look nice, but unfortunately I want to run an external gate and the T25 option only comes with an internal gate.
  23. Geoff, Can you provide a v-band EFR turbo already modded to T3? Which in your opinion is a better replacement for the HKS GT-RS, the 6758 or the 7163? I don't want a less responsive turbo, but the 6758 doesn't look like that much more power than the GT-RS. Thanks
  24. The more I read about these EFR turbo's the more I need to have one. If they made either the 6758 or 7163 in T3 and external waste gate, I'd be upgrading my HKS GT-RS in a heart beat.
  25. It's not about the longer distance for the gas to travel, but rather the speed at which it travels. The pipe diameter is dictating the speed of the exhaust gasses, and the larger diameter of the 6 Boost setup slows gas speed in the lower revs and delays the spool of the turbo. That larger diameter runner however, will allow better scavenging and more total exhaust flow in the high RPM (and hence more peak power) provided there isn't a restriction past that point. ~ Dump pipe, exhaust, cat etc. In the case of my setup (the 1" runner tuned length MX manifold) gas speed is maximised early in the rev range and the spool is almost instant... I have positive boost from 1200 rpm with a HKS GT-RS turbo. What I have had to do though is bypass the internal waste gate on the GT-RS and run an external gate, as the turbo struggled to control the boost with the extra speed of the gas flow.
