If you like to have all the mod cons, the Prime Edition is the go... tiptronic but has leather, heated & electric front seats, woodgrain (if you like that), etc. etc.

Nice Mike looking cleaner! What've you done with your grill?

Well finally managed to extract the blown oil relief valve. Had to mangle it quite a bit to get it out; they are apparrently a press fit and quite a tight one, and the top had broken off so not much I could do except mangle it and try to hook it with a bit of wire. Finished up pushing it right down and removing the mysterious sender (think it's oil temp) that had no connection and hooking it through there. Unfortunately my local Nissan parts place doesn't have a new valve in stock (and who could blame them) however they are able to get one in overnight from interstate. It's gonna be pushing it though to get it to inspection tomorrow; part is only due to arrive at 10:30-11am and I have to put it back together and drive an hour, making sure there is a minimum of 3-4 hours when I get there for inspection :S

Don't worry Jason if you can get your stereo out then this should be an easy fix! Probably covered elsewhere on site but I had this handy so took some photos for you... Step 1 pull the climate control out - 4 screws, two on each side hold it to the bracket. NOTE I left the bracket attached and didn't remove those screws. Here then is the complete assembly: If you look at the back of it you can see the 6 globes straight away - easy! 6 in total, 4 at the bottom behind the buttons, 2 at the top (I presume for the backlight). The 4 down the bottom are of one type, the two at the top are another. Close-up of one of the bottom ones: Close-up showing the location of the two at the top (backlight): You simply use a flat-bladed screwdriver (or small Phillips) and they take about a quarter-turn to undo. Here are the globes themselves, showing the two types. One on the left is the backlight one (I think, someone correct me if I'm wrong!) from the top (two the same). The one on the right is the type used for the 4 lower bulbs (for the buttons): As for finding replacement globes... I can show you what they look like but I haven't investigated replacements... anyone else recognise them from the pic's? There was a user on SAU selling LED versions of these bulbs for skyline/stagea, think it was 666dan ?

haha yeah if they'd let me do it, I would mike I can tell you... it's getting annoying not being able to drive anywhere without going to get a trade plate first

Strange Noise When I Turn The Car Off

Interesting! cheers -

A few cars I've driven make a noise a bit like this - under high load/low revs/WOT conditions they manage to squeeze a bit of exhaust out of an imperfectly sealing exhaust manifold and it makes a kind of 'crackling' sound, almost like pinging... shows up most when going up a particularly long/steep hill on a hot day -
Thanks Justin; I wondered if they were different... different pressure valves etc. I'll call a local wrecker about one Tuesday. Gonna be a race to get it back on the road in time for numbers check Wednesday morning.

Just for good measure, this thread should probably be linked here: Big pizza fart -
Hi all, This tale follows on from my posts in this thread here; but rather than continue to thread-hijack I decided to create a separate one. Quick synopsis: my 2000 S2 was with the compliance workshop in the final stages of being complied when I received a call to say that the compliance work would be finished, however it could not go for its numbers check due to an oil leak which would not pass. I was told only that the leak appeared to be coming from the oil cooler. So after some searching a have seen a couple of users mention that either their cars had this leak or that it is a fairly common place to leak from, and after finally getting the complete cooler/filter block off the engine (pain working under the inlet manifold and all those wires) I can see why: there are a couple of big O-rings which perish over time. I bought replacement gaskets for everything (about 4 different gaskets) from FAST ordered though my local Nissan dealer. But now I have taken the cooler assembly apart I have discovered something worrying: one of the oil pressure relief valves on the oil filter flange has blown out (!) and lost the ball bearing! Can be seen here: ...closeup... This is bad, because since only the spring is left, that means there is probably a ball bearing floating around somewhere in the engine (for reference, there is an intact valve on the right in the first photo) However (please correct me if I'm wrong) since this is on the oil filter attachment, and these 2 pressure relief valves are there to allow the oil to bypass the filter when the filter is blocked (ie. they're on the INLET side of the filter), if a ball bearing was to go astray here it should go straight into the oil filter (and hopefully STAY there). Since the leak was there when I got the car and the oil filter and oil etc was changed during compliance I'm hoping that it has actually been removed some time ago, still to be sure I will replace the (brand new) oil filter. FAST says I can get a new relief valve... here's one: My question is: does anybody know how to get the damn things out??? and how to get the new one in? Anybody dealt with this problem before can you give suggestions on what to do - replace relief valve or change oil cooler block? Thanks, DaveB

I thought this was an interesting & useful topic that died an early death... so attempting to resurr-erect it: Only noise I've noticed so far is the same as AlexCim's here: I just have the 'fan hitting casing sound' (so far). ...and I found a matching solution (also from AlexCim)... This sounds awesome - I might not have to replace the fan I'm going to check mine asap -
In google earth, easiest way seems to be to add a "placemark", ctrl-shift-P or click "Add" menu, and select "Placemark"

c'mon guys need another 5 or we have to pay a $20 premium lol...

Strange Noise When I Turn The Car Off
DaveB replied to humble's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
cool thanks; will do! Has to be checked with engine running though doesn't it? That will take a few days lol... if it's gotten air in the system enough to cause a 'fart' will it need bleeding? -
Finally got my gasket out, and I might have found the source of at least my 'turbo zing' and maybe it could be yours too Jason? Mine is completely stock and less than a week out of compliance... but anyway here's what I found when I removed my turbo exhaust housing to manifold gasket: I have higlighted, fairly obviously, where I found a crack... close-ups: front: back: Doesn't look real serious I guess, however the gasket is a two-piece folded construction, and in the upper-left corner (more visible on the large version showing the whole gasket), the outside edge is corroded/blasted away, leaving a clear path through to the inside where the crack is, and my guess is that it would also operate a little like a reed, flapping about at a high pitch. But this is the first turbo I've worked on, so I could be completely wrong... when you guys said you'd found cracked gaskets I had visions of a thick fibreglass thing falling in half when I removed it... But hope this helps someone to decide about their high-pitch zing problem. The above gasket is a pretty cheap and easy fix; I was quoted $37.60 from two Nissan places I rang. Beware though, lots of pipes to remove... mark everything carefully etc. etc.

Strange Noise When I Turn The Car Off
DaveB replied to humble's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Hi guys, My S2 is making this 'fart' noise too when I turn it off; doesn't seem to be fuel related as I had about 1/3 of a tank; did anybody find the cause of this? Not tyres either 'cause I've got 4 new 205/55/16's on it on standard rims... just got back from compliance and all filters have been changed etc... DaveB -
Leaking Oil Under Front Diff/steering Rack - Help Pls.
DaveB replied to pixel8r's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
Thanks for that, yeah that was my suspicion when I saw it; there still seems to be oil coming from there somewhere though because it's still dripping when parked (which is all it's doing at the moment, because the compliancer said it would fail vehicle inspection due to the oil leak). I have ordered an oil cooler gasket & o-ring seal from nissan, I will replace them next Saturday (out of stock atm). Steve did you end up finding the source of your leak? Cheers, DaveB -
some more info for what it's worth... the first time I drove the stagea home it went through almost a quarter of a tank of 98RON in about 50kms (and no I wasn't booting all the way! was driving like a granny - Adelaide traffic and all)

I would like to know this too First gasket I suspect is the compressor outlet gasket (on the inlet side), my theory being that since this is where the pressure's building, a leak right here would be noisiest since it's so close to the blades of the turbine; I am hoping it's not on the exhaust side because that looks like a lot more work! Here is the gasket I am thinking of replacing: The gasket is metal, thin and triangular. Can I re-use it with some spray-on gasketing compound or do I need to replace it since I took it off? (I marked the orientation). BTW, what should the end-play be in the compressor wheel? I can slide it back & forth a little with thumb & forefinger and can hear it moving a little, but can't really see it move... seems a little more than it should be (I thought it should be zero!) but I don't know.

Thanks Steve; I think I'll try replacing the gasket, just as soon as I get a new one.

Leaking Oil Under Front Diff/steering Rack - Help Pls.
DaveB replied to pixel8r's topic in Four Door Family & Wagoneers
I have pic's (poor ones ) This is the problem that is preventing my car from being registered: (showing front diff' from above with oil sitting on it; the blue thing is the oil filter). Also, while hunting around down there, I found a spare connector (looks like a sender?) Does anybody know where this should be connected? Looking from the driver's side of the engine bay, from above... the grooves are part of the oil cooler. The 'sender' screws into the base of the oil cooler assembly; at the front (I believe the rear one, which has wires connected to it, is the oil pressure sender). Thanks for any help, the compliance workshop wouldn't send the car for its final numbers check for rego' because they said it would fail on account of this oil leak. Regards, DaveB -
Hmmm, I have just driven my car for the first time today (RS-Four S2) and I have the exact same problem - 'zing' kind-of sound when rev's get above about 2,000, pretty loud people on the side of the road look at you funny. Since I'm hoping like heck it's not a shot turbo, does anyone know where I can get a new turbo gasket and/or how much I should be paying?

That is AWESOME! I want your rear bar Looks lowered? Bodykit is completely factory though (well, Dayz factory) - the Dayz sideskirts, front bar and rear bar were all options. Got a dolphin front grille which isn't standard though (as some people already pointed out).
