  1. I can't see this being any less than 40-45k, which puts the car in line with some of the hot hatches (ST, MPS, cheap-spec GTi, etc). The MX5 is also somewhere in that price bracket. Then there is the problem of used performance cars in that price bracket (VW R32, R36, jap imports, etc). So the Toyota/Subaru has some stiff competition. It will need to be a cracker of a car to compete, and early reviews/test drives suggest the car might be good enough to provide a true alternative to existing sports cars in that price bracket. IMO performance cars today are too powerful and too fast to be enjoyed on Autralia's raods considering the increasingly draconian road laws. Somethine like the Toyota/Subaru means drivers can have fun within the limits of the law albeit at the cost of outright power.
  2. Second hand market has indeed been dead for several years, with the exception being R34 GTR, which still have some demand. The second hand market seems have completely stalled once the harsher p plate laws were introduced. Also, the fact that a lot of the cars are now 15-20 years old doesn't help. You can buy a hot hatch today that will keep up with the turbo monsters of yesteryear. Again, this hasn't helped the market. The above is excellent advice. Get a trade in quote, advertise the car for a couple of grand more.
  3. No I was fully aware he was annoyed at me not agreeing that he was right. I wasn't upset about the fact he got annoyed with me. I was upset about the fact he wouldn't admit his friend was signalling in an incorrect, confusing and potentially dangerous manner. Therefore the point of my initial post was to point out how arrogant cops can be even when they're in the wrong. And with that we'll call and end to this discussion. There are other things to post about.
  4. In all fairness there are a few R34s on carsales for less than $50K. IMO what set this car apart was the fact that it was: a) bayside blue, which is always going to be the most popular colour after MPIII; and b) a very clean looking car in the photos. Generally, the majority of R34s selling for under 50K don't look that great judging by the photos. You can't beat that combination.
  5. A jerk because I was pointing out that the cop who was signalling was doing so in a manner that was confusing and could have potentially resulted in him being run over? Hardly. If you're doing something that involves me in some way and I think it's dangerous I'm going to let you know whether you like it or not.
  6. Awesome. I'm ashamed to admit I don't know what make and model the red car is in the background of the RSR picture.
  7. Just a general complaint here: Driving down a main road in Sydney's north west. See a mobile breathaliser setup. It's at night so it's already dark. The cop who is indicating to the oncoming cars decides to wave his light baton (or whatever it is) in a front to back motion (e.g. motioning from from straight ahead to behind him). To my GF and I, the motion was indicating he wanted us to continue straight (seems logical that motioning from front to rear means continue through yeah?). Last minute he decided to wave his wand from left to right, indicating that he wanted us to do a breath test. By now I was already quite close to him and had to slam the brakes. He gave us the obligatory greasy. So I told his mate, the one who was holding the breathaliser, that he should tell his friend that he's singalling cars incorrectly. I explained that a front-to-back motion indicates to a driver that they should continue to drive straight and not pull into the RBT. Of course, the cop with the breathaliser wanted none of my argument and would not concede that his partner was going about signalling to drivers in a totally incorrect manner. Despite repeated attempts to convince him, he still wouldn't listen. In the end he asked for my license and he was clealry annoyed that there was nothing that he could book me with. Cops can be real wankers at times. [/end rant]
  8. The problem with Legnums is the price and availability of parts. there aren't enough of them around in Australia so some of the smaller/lesser-known parts can be impossible to come by unless you get them from overseas. Also, parts can be expensive because theren't that many Legnums in Aus. The other problem is resale. At least Stageas have a second hand market. Legnums are VERY difficult to sell because not that many people know about them. That can be very frustrating when the time comes to sell the car. IMO Legnums would make great second cars, but I would never again have one as my only or main car. Back on topic, Caldinas look awful. I'd take a Stagea over a Caldina if only for looks alone (which says a lot because I also think Stageas are ugly, lol). Though a M35 would be nice...
  9. My 2 cents: don't get such a unique car. I had a Legnum for a year and I cannot begin to tell you what a hassle it is to own a car that is so relatively unknown or un-owned that you can't find parts and can't sell the car for a decent price. For example, my Legnum's clutch master cylinder needed replacing. the car, which was a manual, would not let me put the gearbox in gear. There were not replacement clutch master cylinders in Australia. Through the help of the ozvr4 forum I tracked down a replacement through Ralliart in New Zealand, but it took a total of three weeks to locate the part and have it sent to my address. The car sat in the carpark of my apartment block the whole 3 weeks and I was stuck without a car, which was a real pain in the a$$. So my advice is to get something a little more common so that you can find the parts you need when the time comes.
  10. So the older lambos could still skid off the road even if driven at normal speeds???
  11. Lol, that's like the Simpsons episode where criminals are sent letter that they get a free boat, only to get arrested when they walk into the police station to claim their prize.
  12. Not a nice start to a marriage: http://www.skynews.com.au/offbeat/article.aspx?id=715106&vId= Quote: "I was driving it so slowly, so carefully, but the bumps, and the wet, and the car . . . it just skidded off the road." sure he was
  13. Damn this thread just doesn't want to die does it! I reckon a Supra would make a better day-to-day car than a GTR (for a single person who doesn't use the boot and doesn't have more than one passenger).
  14. Importantly, both the MX5 and 180 will be a hell of a lot more fun than a NA R33. As for the MX5 and the 180, you have to ask yourself what you want from a car. The MX5 is convertible, handles like a go kart, is fuel efficient, and has been very popular for tarmac rallies and club days. So it definitely has the cred to be a great car. Downsides are that MX5s are quite slow in a straight line unless modified, are as practical and have as much storage space as a shoebox, and you can only take one passenger along for the ride. 180 will be faster in a staight line, has 4 seats (you can squeeze two people in the back for short trips), is a hatchback with a bigger boot than a MX5, and will be easier to mod. Drawbacks are that the 180 will consume more petrol and won't handle as well as a MX5. EDIT: based on your last post, you should get a 180. The best car to own is the one that you think about all the time and get excited about.
  15. How much would they sell for if one were to come up for sale?
  16. Kristian, why haven't you made a thread about your car? I'd love to have a look at a few pics if you're ever up for it. Also, on the topic of N1s and special GTRs, does anyone know if there are any 400Rs in Aus?
  17. Lol, I didn't mind it but I did find it a bit boring. It's a really nicely made clip so I'm not faulting the production values. But, I thought I was going to see some racing or discussion about the Euro import scene. I'll watch the other videos when I get home from work and can access YouTube.
  18. What was the point of the first vid? I thought I was about to watch a documentary or something. What I got was a 5 minute mish mash of various cars and "the fast and the furious"-style meets.
  19. I know this thread isn't about your car as such but yours is an awesome, awesome car. The R34 N1 is my favourite model of GTR. Simply stunning
  20. And back on topic... that was an interesting video. I've been a passenger in a R35 and it's an awe inspiring car. Undoubtedly better in every way when compared to any of the earlier GTRs. But, I think I would appreciate it more if it had a traditional manual gearbox. Sure the DCT transmission is much faster, but shifting gears manually is a lot more fun. And I this is the point with these sorts of cars; we buy them because we want something fun to drive. And as much as I was in awe of the R35 when I was in it, I didn't think it was as much fun as an R34 that I had the pleasure of driving.
  21. Not much you can do mate other than learn from your mistake and move on. BTW, do you know what was wrong with it? EDIT: Seeing as the car was re-registered and the authorities knew it was a repairable write-off, two possibilities come to mine. Either it was a rebirthed car, or the repairs were done properly and the car was re-registered. Does the car drive fine? Is it registerable or do you have to repair it before re-registering it?
