well I think I'm qualified to answer this. I've had power FC's in about 8 of my cars. they are great. easy to tune, reliable, cheap to buy (well except for RB25). hand controller is very handy (lol), they do lots of little things very well (nice stable idle, good injector control, good auxillary control, good base maps). I recently had the power Fc in my silvia (SR20, trust turbo kit, nismo 550cc injectors, Z32 AFM etc) replaced with a nistuned ecu. to be honest it runs just as well on the nistune as it did on the power FC. however in the little silvia which has no aftermarket gauges I do miss the handcontroller to check things. that's about it.' there is really not much to choose between them.

tough call. I would like to think so, but I'm man enough to admit I may be a bit one eyed when it comes to webber. he was bloody close last year and led the WDC for more than any other driver but wasn't leading at the one point it counts. can he do that again? can't see why not, only this time It'd be nice for him to stay in front for a few more events and take the prize. anyway, we'll see. many, many people said he would never win a race and yet he won enough last year to keep my TAB account in the black and keep himself up front for the whole season (pretty much). so sure plenty of so called pundits reckon he will never be WDC but fact is those same people said he'd never even fit in an F1 car let alone with races in them.

electric sender for sure. mechanical is no good, that means having fluid in the cabin and if a line or coupling splits or the gauge fails you'll get a nice spray of 110degree oil in the cabin! i have to be honest I run defi's in 2 of my cars now and whilst they are expensive I reckon they're worth every penny. but for cheaper options you can probably pick up a used trust guage. they don't require a main controller (each gauge has it's own) and they have peak hold and warning function which is important for a oil pres guage, you want one that tells you when pressure drops low. probably looking at under $150 for something decent. also defi now make gauges that don't need controllers, sort of a budget entry level defi gauge, I'm sure they are quite good too.

yeah, agree it was not kind. on most roads it was ok as you got a bit of wheel spin which reduced that shock load, but I think with some cars suffering axel tramp (i personally never did) and some cars on grippier surfaces would have been those that suffered box damage. those 2 problems really come down to surface though I guess and it's impossible to have something that suits all conditions. I do miss it a bit, it was great fun on the road and looked and sounded pretty dramatic.

just looked at the ebay one, it could be 4 inch. don't think it's trust though as I've never seen them with that type of round 5 bolt flange before. and most of the trust front pipes are the mx which are mild steel anyway. so it could be modified, or most likely is another brand all together.
-
yeah of all the main off the shelf front pipes the 'new' HKS ones (easily picked as flanges are welded to the pipes on the inside of the flange, not around the outside like normal) are the biggest. most others (trust included) are between 60 and 70mm twin pipe into 70 or 80mm single. twin 3 inch system is a good idea. it flows about the same as a single 4 inch, but does't hang as low to the ground as single 4 inch. it is also possible to make it a bit quieter than a single 4, though both can be quiet with the right mufflers. the downside is it'll be heavier.

"hacking" Electronics - Piracy Or Innovation
Beer Baron replied to EeLeYe's topic in PC & Games Discussion
well they can only ban you from using the PSN etc. most people who wanted jailbroken PS3s for programming, or media centre use or as a super computer or whatever else they are doing are not likely to be using it to play games online over the PSN are they? so it really only affects the people who were running it that way to use pirated games. there may be a handful of people in the world who had a jailbroken PS3, and had zero pirated games and still wanted to use PSN but it wouldn't be many. sucks for them, but all it really does is weed out the people with pirated software. -
someone pls add my lonely bspec driver to some remote races. he's still on lvl2 and going nowhere fast! in return, feel free to borrow some of the cars I'm sharing. got some good stuff up at the mo including the 787B.
-
exactly. then mark took it and won monaco with it.... yeah what a hack... ease up on the webber. he tries his best and it must take some toughness just to be able to go out with a good attitude every race considering everything in the team is set up to favour vettel. the fact that he beats vettel something close to half the time they race tells us he's a long way from being a hack. he also smashed rosberg when they drove together and now look at what rosberg is doing to schuey.

nice mate. it sounds great in the vids. makes me miss the old girl. it's many times nicer now than when you got it! it was a very clean car though. definitely one of, if not the, cleanest R34 GTRs I've come across in recent years. with them now 10 years old and most have had multiple owners it's not often I see a really nice one these days. even in japan.

haha, yeah fatz knows how to sell a car. 3rd gear putting down the road at 80k or so, turn the wheel, kick the clutch and see where you end up after that...

you're a machine fatz. no wonder you are selling, this 31 is far too clean for you. love the paint mate. pretty cheap for a 26 powered car with nice paint and nice rims. should haul a55! -
looks good mate. best of luck for targa.

R34 Gtr Build
Beer Baron replied to JEM Dyno's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
hey bob. awesome car mate. love it. just 1 question though. I'm not sure what you mean about the hollinger box? you do not need to change transfer case, or front diff or rear diff to run a hollinger. yes you need a new tailshaft but the hollinger is far superior to PPG, PAR or the modena. it uses a completely different casing design, is smaller, lighter, stronger, smoother and offers much faster shifts being a sequential box (it's not an h pattern box with a sequential 'changer' so i'm not sure who gave you that advice). it will probably be easier to drive around town than a full dog engagement PAR box to be honest. the problem with gearsets like the PPG and PAR is they use the factory casing and many factory parts in which there are weaknesses. the hollinger uses none. they make a bellhousing adapter and it mates up to the factory transfer case no problem. my advise would be sell the PAR and get the hollinger. you will not regret it. for a car that has big power and is a mix of street, drag and circuit the hollinger is a much better choice. it's a big outlay up front but saves money and headaches in the long run. -
yep, just goes to show how much power there can be if the exhaust is a restriction. I don't know of any off the shelf front pipes bigger than the current model HKS drag front pipes. they are twin 70mm (or 75mm i forget) into single which is at least 80mm (could be bigger). it's the biggest I've found. most are twin 60mm or sometimes they quote 70 but when you measure them that's 70 OD not ID. the best off the shelf cat back exhaust on the planet for a GTR is the trust power evolution which is 94mm and comes will all V-band flanges (except to connect to the front pipe which is normal 2 bolt flange), comes with a 'fake cat' which is actually a big resonator, with the 2 bolt flange on one side (to meet normal front pipes) and a v-band on the other (to meet the cat-back). it's all straight pipe and just has one rear cannon which is HUGE and is 4 inch (well 3.75 really) all the way through it. no restriction at all in that set-up and perfect for big power. sadly trust will only make them in batches so need to order 10 or 20 units or some such. and are special order. I don't think they've made any for about 5 years or so. I still have one brand new in it's box, but i'm saving it for a rainy day. it's a nice piece of gear.

yeah and I'm stone motherless last.

Size Rims/tyres For Track Work
Beer Baron replied to Rekin's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
yeah 235/45/17 is common in all tyres new and used. for semis plenty of cars run 235 semis in national and state comps. if your suspension is really that soft it may not be ideal for track use with semis anyway. might need to look at getting them revalved and with some higher rate springs to control pitch and roll a bit better. with normal suspension and average heights 17X9 +30 with some 235s on them should be fine on the front of a GTST. -
love the on board button bathurst lap. would love to see craig's lap too. not a bad effort. yeah with the corner speeds they can carry it really does straighten up a lot of the corners and it shortens the braking zones massively to make it much more flowing than it is in a touring car where you are a lot more stop start. it was a very conservative lap though, he was a long way from the apex of most corners sticking safely to the middle of the track. would love to see one really attack it hard using all the track.

Tarmac Rallying Perpetual Thread

yeah good luck to all. hope you have a safe run. -
having tried the various LC modes I still think the original JDM spec launch was the best (certainly the most entertaining). I know they keep sprouting that LC2 was better but I think that was just to placate pissed off owners who had their LC taken away. it as piss easy to use (RROff), then just foot on brake (doesn't have to be super hard either) and then just push the accelerator to the floor (no need to stomp on it, or pump it or anything stupid like that). revs would hold nicely at around 4,800rpm and when you were ready you simply lifted off the brake which acted like a "go" switch. all you needed to do was be ready with the right paddle as 1st gear limiter comes up bloody fast! there was a bit of wheelspin which was probably a good thing for the driveline but the thing just rocketed off the line. I saw something like 1.2 accel g doing launches that way. and plenty of smiles too.

eh? what picture?

best value is profec B II. they work fine on GTRs and are cheap and easy to use. best outright is either HKS EVC 5 or the BLITZ dual SBC ID3. both very good but more costly. as the guys said if you want say low boost of 18psi, get 15psi actuators and bleed 3psi, then for your high boost you'll have to bleed a bit more. I can understand wanting 2 boost levels, nothing wrong with that. and the best way to get that is with an EBC. either of the 3 above should give good results. I've used all 3 (and others) personally in my cars.

The short 80mm pipe after the twin 70mm front pipes is a bit of a problem, but not too bad as by that point gas has already expanded a lot and velocity is lower anyway, still if you really want every bit then cut off the 80mm pipe, replace it with a 90mm+ pipe ending with a 4inch Vband flange. get a BIG cat with 4inch in/out and put Vband flanges at each end, then run 4 inch cat back exhaust (3.5inch will be ok too in a pinch). other option, is cut off the 80mm bit and run twin 70mm system the whole way. personally I'd replace the HKS dumps too. they are pretty small. a set of tomeis are much bigger and allowing the gas to expand as quickly as possible is the aim of the game. you are asking for 400kw from what is on average a 350kw set-up. you really need a decent exhaust to make that happen.
