  1. I will adjust the fan speeds with Riva Tuner and see how I go, what could be causing the crash and make it sit at pre-POST?
  2. Yeah I know its overkill, the old one was dying recently and so I got the 750W based on the new CPU/Mobo/GPU/RAM set up I will be getting shortly. Yeah I could try the old PSU it still works just not very well, the problem did occur before I installed the new power supply. Is 12.42V on the 12V an issue? unfourtunetly I dont have much experience when it comes to that sort of thing. Thanks for the help so far keep it coming. PS. forgot to add that when I turn on the computer the CPU fan quite loud until about 10 seconds into the Windows boot screen, that has been occuring for a while now but because the computer is on more or less 24-7 its only been a mild annoyance.
  3. Hey guys inspired by the tech support in other threads I thought I would post my PC issue here. Currently my computer is crashing randomly when i'm playing random games, the screen will go black, the monitor stand by light will come on and the fans will run at 100%. First off the relevant specs Athlon X2 4800+ Nvidia 9600GT 4GB of RAM Windows XP Pro Brand new 750W PSU I at first assumed it was overheating but on closer inspection the temperatures are all well within safe tolerances. CPU 65-70 when playing games GPU 55-60 has an aftermarket fan set up Drivers are all up to date. The stange thing is it happend just before when I was playing Star Trek: BC which came out in like 2003 yet still crashed. I am a bit of noob when it comes to PSU voltages, in all my years of working on computers I have only twice encountered any PSU problems. My PSU +12V is reading as 12.35-12.42 and I think that may be an issue, although some say as long as its within 5% of what its supposed to be all is well. Ayways any help from the SAU tech support team would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Seriously guys, we get better, faster tech support on SAU than we do when we have to call up Optus for example
  5. It might be a buggered thermostat, normally if its a head gasket there is milky almost cheesy residue on the oil cap. The thermostat was buggered in a few cars I looked at and there was massive amounts of burnt coolant. Also the thermostat being dead might be the reason the head gasket blew (if it is actually that) because of the car overheating. For a car to overheat there doesnt always have to be the classic plooms of steam at the side of the road sometimes they just quietly cook themselves.
  6. +1 All the Bios settings will remain exactly the same. Only if you wipe or update the Bios wold the settings change.
  7. I suggest you look at the reason why the head gasket blew in the first place, very often people replace the gasket only for it to happen again. Just do a bit of homework as to why GTR headgaskets go and then either see if you can find the problem yourself or take your suspicions to a good mechanic. Good Luck.
  8. I have dragged a EA falcon (one of the fastest Falcons_ and a VP Commodore (fastest v6 Commodore) against an unmodified GTS-T and got utterly DESTROYED. Like others said they are comparable to the BA XR6 Turbo or VT-VZ LS1 Commodores, although 9 times out of 10 a VY SS Auto will trounce a manual GTS-T because most people cant drive for shit and Commodores are much easier to drive for average drivers. I'd know i'm an average driver. A current VE SS will beat a perfectly launched stock GTS-T but even a badly launched FG XR6T will easily beat a stock GTS-T.
  9. Its not about intellectual capacity, its about the ability to defend the undefendable and when that fails lie through your teeth to 10s of millions of people. There is no honour or truth in politics, its all about vote buying with whatever policies you can throw out there to appease the masses, that in this country for the most part dont care about politics. On the whole $2000 for your old car. Any car with Rego and RWC is worth about $1500-$2000 anyway so your not really gaining that much anyway, plus i'm sure the car dealers would come up with a scheme so most of that $2k ends up in their pockets anyway. Just like when the government offered the 2k towards converting cars to LPG, all the installers just put their prices up 1.5-2k.
  10. Thats retarded. According to the Vic police website: "Excessive speed is defined as driving 25 kilometres an hour or more above the speed limit, or at 130 kilometres an hour or more (if the speed limit is 110 kilometres per hour)." So I can drive at 64km/h an hour in 40km/h school zone and keep my license and just get a fine, yet if I do 130km/h in a 110km/h zone on the drive from Sydney to Melbourne I lose my license. Once again the burecrats have screwed up royal. Just for the record I know you dont make the rules Graeme and your in just as crappy position as the rest of us, if not worse as you have to enforce these stupid laws and then cop the backlash from the public.
  11. I think thats right, plus the additional 12-15 months added onto the probationary license thanks to the "graduated licensing system", which punishes getting fines and rewards a clean driving record.
  12. +1 I've worked on many a HP,Compaq, Dell laptop and they are all absolute crap. Asus and Toshiba I have never had any problems with them, they are very well put together. I agree with Ash 4k for a laptop is nuts, my gf bought a Toshiba mid range laptop with a good graphics card that can play most new games on medium settings and that was only $1400 with the 3 year extended warranty. I think something like that would more than do the job for you, my gf uses hers for photoshop, video editing and compressing. It does the job quite well.
  13. Same here, been playing for 2 years now, got hacked about a week ago. f**kers added an authenticator to my account too so I couldnt just reset the password. Now i'm still waiting for Blizzard to send me out my new password, they said in an email that I would have it at 7am AEST but it hasnt turned up so now the waiting game continues. The strangest thing is *touches wood* the hackers didnt actually take anything, no gold, no items. My girlfriends account got hacked at the same time too, which is really strange because we use 2 different computers. Maybe the hackers are going server by server? all my characters and my gf's are all on Saurfang.
  14. To be quite frank with you Australia's climate change policys are more or less irrelevant to the rest of the world. Real climate change action will never happen on a global level or at the very least not in the next 30 years. Who of us is going to tell 1.7 billion Chinese and Indian people alone who dont currently have cars or anything electrical more sophisticated than a light bulb that they cant have them because of climate change. You cant tell them okay for us to drive and have air conditioners and TV's but they cant because then their country wouldnt meet some carbon target that is absolutely meaningless to them. The Chinese and Indian government would literally have revolutions on their hands if they institued any sort of climate change policy. Also most countries in the near future wont have any money to spend on renewable energy unless they either raise taxes or cut spending on healthcare, education and welfare. None of which would be politically viable as no political party is willing to make themselves unelectable for probably at least a decade by instituting austerity measures unless the creditors are banging down the door which was the case with Greece.
  15. I completely agree i'm all for action on enviromental issues yet all the political partys are going about it in completely the wrong way. The Greens want a severe ETS cap and trade system - Which will destroy the Australian economy because business's will not be able to afford the carbon credits without passing it onto the consumer, both will completely gut the economy. As Kevin Rudd said (I cant believe I agree with this man on something) "If the greens came into power today Australia would of ground to a halt by 10am tommorow) Labour wants a less severe ETS cap and trade system - Which like NISMO said will only increase prices for consumers and damage the economy because consumers will have less money in their pockets to buy usual consumer goods (cars, clothes, appliances etc) The Liberals dont really have any real policy on the enviroment. Personally I dont believe in human created climate change but by the same token I do believe in preserving the enviroment for future generations. If governments around the world were serious about the enviroment hyrdogen cars would already be in a driveway of every street in the world, renewable energy would be plentiful and already taking some of the strain of fossil fuel power stations. Hybrids and effecient diesels are a stop gap not a solution, bring on the hydrogen powered super cars with 1000nm of torque from 0rpm. If we want to decrease polution and smog do what Don Burke said, plant more tree's, even if they just sit there who cares they are could make Australia incredibly enviromentally friendly and much more cost effectively than a ETS. I mean shit there is already 10's of thousands of work for the dole participants doing their compulsory work, why not use them to plant the trees, the labour is practically free and i'm sure some of them would be more than happy to help the enviroment.
  16. When i'm using a sniper class I hate not getting one shot kills. So I use the following and get 1 shot kills most of the time. Intervention - FMJ - Thermal PP2000- Akimbo Claymore Bling Stopping Power Steady Aim I use that class on the majority of maps except where sniping isnt really possible in which case I use either MP5 Akimbo PP2000 Red Dot Sight Marathon Stopping Power Steady Aim or ACR - Grenade Launcher PP2000 Red Dot Sight Marathon Stopping Power Steady Aim
  17. Personally I dont have a welded diff, but they can be great fun, good power to weight ratio for such a cheap car of nearly 100kw per ton. I got a VP wagon and if I give it the beans it always brings a smile to my face. Also its all about how cheap parts are for it, for instance the voltage regulator in my alternator was dying (the original regulator from the factory 18 years and 340,000kms later), $33 and 30 minutes later it was fixed good as new. I've seen a fair few supercharged/Turbo Buick's and Ecotec's in Zoom and Boost and they are cranking out some serious power quite reliably too. Japanese engineering is brilliant dont get me wrong but those engines are designed to be perfect and treated with the upmost respect by the driver, not to be driven by hoons bouncing off rev limiter. American/Australian engineered engines are designed to be idiot proof so you thrash them around all day and they will be fine with little to no maintainance.
  18. To the best of my knowledge there is no policy or system like that in place. There is compulsory super but that is going to be no where near enough for someone who has worked for 45 years at around minimum wage with no support from a government funded pension. The government will have to give literally decades of notice to tell people that they wont have a government pension when they retire, they can hardly spring that on someone a few years before they retire. I dont think that there will be abolshing of the pension its more likely that there will just be a blanket amount taken from everyone's income every year and then invested in individual government managed pension funds, this will probably occur in 10-20 years time as the baby boomers start to destroy the budget with their pension payments. Either way it seems paying into super now seems like the best plan at the moment for ones retirement.
  19. I'm saying that the old aged pension will cost Australians dearly in the future unless reformed in quite a large fashion. Personally I believe $16,744 isnt enough to live on especially when your single and I completely agree. When I said Abbott will rip the heart out of the welfare system I was referring to unemployment benefits and student allowances. As a politiican your better off alienating the young than pissing off the pensioners because they will fight back and they have both the time and the resources, young people cant be bothered and think they have better things to do. What I am saying about the pension is that it will destroy the governments bottom line as the baby boomers retire and reforms will have to be put in place where by the aged pension is either reformed or abolished for those under the age of say 40. Either a system of people saving for their own retirement or a blanket additional tax of a couple of % of annual income that goes straight into the a government sponsored pension plan so they can actually afford to pay out your pension when you retire. Abbott is between a rock and hard place at the moment, he can either choose the Gillard line which is to out and out lie about the future of our country and our economy or he can do what he's doing tell the truth and get destroyed in the polls for it. Gillards budget projections are based on a large level of economic growth in China, if that doesnt happen we are going to go even further into the red. As much as I want the mad monk to win, I dont think he will, even he knows that.
  20. Sorry you are completely correct. $644 per fortnight per pensioner x 26 = $16,744 The figure of $16,744 is correct though I just accidentally wrote 52 instead of 26.
  21. Yeah its horrible it builds up and up till you finally get this rubbish anticlimatic ending and no real reward other than a small amount of money. You dont even need money in Borderlands once you get all Ammo upgrades. I was playing 2 player co-op on the 360 with my Gf's brother and then my save data randomly got corrupted, no power failure or prematurely turning off the console it just corrupted by itself. Apparently its quite a well known issue but theres no fix for it. Overall its still a brilliant game and I eagerly await the second one.
  22. +1 Personally I got the 120gb model and i've no where near filled it up with stuff, I just stream it all from my PC over the network. By the way you guys having the same avatar makes skimming through these posts difficult i'm looking at you Marc
  23. No way i'm giving even more power to the Greens those enviro-mentals already have too much sway when it comes to the future of our great country. So I would rather vote for what in my opinion is the lesser of two evils, I have no doubt Abbott will rip the heart out of the welfare system and cut costs wherever he deems he can. Gillard and Brown will only deliver Australian into the hands of the Chinese. People will call me alarmist but look at Greece they had to go cap in hand to their creditors the European and get a massive bailout from the world bank and the Germans. Our creditor is the Chinese government and they arent going to be as forgiving or as nice as the European union was to the Greeks. They will demand policy concessions because we will owe them so much money, we will no longer be able to refuse them being allowed to buy into Australian industry because otherwise they will cut off our line of credit. Much like the Untied States controlled the former European powers of Britain and France after WW2 because they couldnt finance a war or military action without a loan from the U.S. As the baby boomers start to retire and put even more stress on the governments bottom line as they go from being the largest contributors of tax to being a drain on the system our deficit and debt will continue to rise under the control of Gillard and Brown. As of 2001 the ratio of Taxpayers to Pensioners was 5:1 today its more like 3.5:1 which means if you do the math of $644 per fortnight per pensioner x 52 = $16,744 anually, divide that by even 5 taxpayers per pensioner thats $3,348 of your taxes that go directly to a pensioner every year, when the ratio drops to 3:1 it will be $5,581. Abbott is willing to make those hard choices that will make life harder for most people in this country but they are choices that have to be made unless we want to become a defacto province of the People's Republic of China in the next 25 years.
  24. Your problem is you live in Sydney, insurance companies hate people from Sydney for some reason. I can insure a 2008 R35 with RACV for something like $1500 a year at my house in Melbourne (i'm only 23 and on my full license, no accidents not even a ticket) yet its $200 more where in live in Sydney to insure my old commodore run around. Its complete bullshit, I live in Frankston for gods sake the car theft capital of South east Melbourne yet I can insure a car worth 185 times more money for the same price just because Sydney sucks the big one.
