Not everyone will love this car but I think it looks hot. Modifications they've made are, carbon canards, GT Wing, Blitz Nur Spec F-Ti exhaust and Blitz front pipes as well as some other carbon bits in the front bar. They've also modified the stock suspension to lower the car a little and painted the factory rims black. Richard's explanation is perfectly reasonable except that it wouldn't really be so great to mount a transaxle to a vehicle with non-independent suspension (live axle) as you're adding a huge lump of unsprung weight. So to add the term independent in describing a transaxle would be slightly redundant. I look at it as jargon and marketing hyperbole so take from it what you will , both answers are right ! its the marketing guys who dish out the buzz words and leave the actual technical explanations to someone else.

lol I thought you were joking... I kinda thought it was obvious... A transaxle is when you combine the transmission and the differential. An independent transaxle is when you do not mount it directly to the engine. A rear mounted independent transaxle is when the transaxle is mounted at the rear of the car. A rear mounted AWD independent transaxle is when you combine all that and add a secondary drive shaft back to the front.. Nissan have the first REAR mounted AWD independent transaxle but not the first independant transaxle or even the first independent AWD transaxle as the Ford RS200 had a independent FRONT mounted transaxle with the engine in the middle of the car. Does that help?

They might be the only company to make a AWD rear mounted independant transaxle. A big difference to what you said though. Like I said. Do your homework as there are a lot of rear mounted independant transaxles on many different cars. Nissan marketing also told me at the Melbourne motor show that their R35 GT-R was the only one in the southern hemisphere... Marketing is like that... You're not paid to tell the truth all the time...

Well they have to make an Australian spec no matter what. They can't ship us a US Spec because they're all LHD and they cant ship us the Japanese spec because the controls are in Japanse. We have to get an Australian spec mix of both of those.

Good point. If our "DOTARS insider's" friend really did tell him that an import approval was granted for "the Donut King car" he is probably in breach of federal privacy regulations. Quite ironic considering he's blabbering about people "misusing" trade plates but at the same time spilling his guts about information that he has no business being aware of.

This works both ways. Australia is not a worthwhile market to spend money in R&D in. Therefore we won't be worth spending money on developing a shittier brake package for therefore we will most likely see the massive brembos on Australian cars. I think we will see something like: - US Spec suspension Softer suspension has already been announced for the US market - US Spec gearbox Apparently it's a little less noisy than the JDM model - Detuned ECU for Australian fuels, There is a ECU map for each market the car is sold in already this is no big deal the car will still make tonnes of power and it will be re programmable in the near future - Only 1 spec available Premium non black edition, no base model - Fewer options No rear view camera, no LED daylight running lights, no navigation or navi a dealer option only at $5k

I'm getting the impression you work for Nissan Australia and/or you have a vested interest in disseminating FUD (that's fear, uncertainty and doubt for you) regarding the possibility/legitimacy of importing R35 GT-R's parrallell to Nissan Australia. Posting on subjects which you either have no first hand knowledge about or something you heard second hand. At the moment you come across as someone who does not know what's going on in the Australian import scene so when you attempt to tell it like it is you're officially making a fool of yourself. Your DOTARS insider has no correct information or information that is out of date. A few of the forum members who are posting in here are close to what's going on with the GT-R's in the country and you aren't... So who are you? Own up and tell us your name...

The GT-R is in no way the first car to ever have a rear mounted independent transaxle. Do some homework before thinking you know everything geez. Plenty of other cars have and plenty of those have been manuals. If the yanks could do it back in the 90's with the C4 corvette im sure Nissan could figure it out if they cared to.

Your so called DOTARS insider is about as clued up as the average public servant I see... - The donut king car is race rally - Theres a few more than 3 VIA's issued for R35's. - About 10 people have posted pics of 35's on the road with trade plates, take your pick.

That is not the reason they wont have a manual, plenty of other cars have had rear mounted manual transaxles.

Sounds a lot better in the flesh... The audio should have been setup to hear the engine note better too as it was too quiet in the episode.

Yep. August is the current earliest delivery window even at the biggest dealerships in Tokyo. Demand is far outweighing production.

Your gonna kick yourself... R35-000034. That's one parked in Ginza. Anyway I have FAST with R35 GT-R data in it. It's great, has pricing for all the parts RRP from Nissan Japan these days not like the old FASTs. Works ok but there's zero english in the one I bought from Japan.

I thought the same mate. I recently bought Falken FK452's in 265x18 .. Rang around everywhere ELSE but Tempe fearing their quality of service and got quoted as high as $415. Called Tempe in the end, they said $260 straight up and the guy was actually not a dick about it. He was a normal guy and got back to me when he said he would. If you want to talk to someone good at Tempe ask for Max he's the guy I dealt with and his service and price was good. When i asked for a discount on that price he chucked in fitting and balancing... which is quite a good deal I reckon... Don't write off Tempe imo...

haha I'm sure Melbourne is ok... Interesting to hear the Nissan PR guys telling journalists that the above pictured car is the only GTR in the southern hemisphere... I was tempted to ask how they felt about the donut king car but didn't feel like upsetting their day with thoughts of evil grey imported pink cars.

GT-R launch was a highlight. There's a few good cars there. The veyron is barely worth visiting its surrounded by a sneeze guard it seems. You can't take decent photos of it like that. New falcons look the same. Fake carbon fibre on the dash in the typhoon looks damn stupid. As for the chicks... Most of the models are dead boring and seem to have never done a car show before they just kinda stood there not doing anything. Maybe it was too early for them....
