  1. make sure youve sanded back any paint that is at that point. bare metal is a good ground, paint is not by all means paint over it once grounded to stop rust. also make sure the ground wire from the head unit isnt dodgy. ive had one with a break in the ground wire before. would work randomly. replaced the ground wire at the plug - which wasnt fun
  2. car hasnt made the noise since i got it back from the 100,000k service. if it makes it again ill just turn the stereo up anyways Hows the car goin anyways atomnaya? sorry for hijackin the thread.
  3. I've got federals (compliance tyres) on my 34 and I was expecting them to be quite crappy but they grip much better than i expected for cheapies.
  4. Mine already had aftermarket speakers in it. Once the back seat is out the parcel tray comes out(not the metal part it sits on). and theres screws that hold the speaker grills to the parcel tray. and yes the speakers are screwed into the metal framework from above - you'll need a real short screwdriver to get the back screws out if changing the speakers too. the hardest part was getting the child safety restraints off. i needed a mate to get in the boot and hold a spanner on there while i undid the bolts from inside the car.
  5. Getting the back seat out is quick and easy. The speaker grilles are screwed onto the parcel tray from underneath. the buzzing might be the child safety restraints that get bolted straight over the top of the speakers for compliance (brackets were touching the speaker surrounds on mine so i just removed them). if you're gonna remove the restraints keep them so you can put them back on if you sell the car later on.
  6. had one similar in my 34 which had a tv headunit in it so might have been a booster for that.
  7. Well thats gonna save you a whole heap of stuffin around then. I got 1/2 way thru my install and wished i'd paid someone to do it. But yeah looks like the best solution for now would be to bridge the 5300 and get a good monoblock later on.
  8. maybe there should be a warning sticker on them sayin they will smoke on first use or something
  9. makes the noise even when the climate control is off. i just got a call from the mechanics and i get the car back today instead of friday so ill have a look at it thisarvo.
  10. could try a tiny dab of superglue or something on the part of the key not stuck in the door and try n attach it back to the part in the lock (being very careful not to get the glue on anything else). might work and superglue is like $1.00 or something just don't keep using the broken key after that
  11. if you plan on getting a mono later on and using the 2 channel to run the fronts when you do then it should be fine but by the looks of it all 3 amps you listed are underspecced for that sub. if its a matter of keepin it cheap for now then i would get the 5300t 2 channel as its got 125w nominal per channel which will be pretty decent for when you have it powering your fronts. the 3300 will be quite underspecced for either job. then later on get a mono block that has about 500w nominal (not peak) probably this one if you want to stick with pioneer. PRS-D1100M. looking at the RRP on the pioneer site they seem quite a bit pricey compared to some better brands (but of course thats all a matter of opinion). Were you installing this yourself or getting it done professionally?
  12. Ive got 4ga from battery with an 80amp fuse thru to boot and that splits into 2x 8ga via a distro block to both the eclipse amp and my crappy boss amp. these both have 8ga grounded to the same point. also i have a 60amp fuse inline for the eclipse which can draw 90 and a 40 on the boss which can draw 60 so aint gonna be maxin out the amps ever. been working fine since so not too worried anymore but yeah i needed to change my pants.
  13. what amp and sub are they? is the amp bridgeable? if it is you could bridge the two channels into 1 and run it that way. ive got a cheapo 1200W sony sub running off a 4 channel boss amp ive just got two of the channels bridged and run the sub off that. its pretty crap but only cost me $300 total for the sub, the box and the amp. if you could list the model numbers of the amp and sub it would help. but in short you can run a sub off a 2way amp and whether or not to go mono is all a matter of how much you want to spend. i went with the cheapest possible option at the time and plan on upgrading later on.
  14. Yeah dunno about the sizes. ive seen on some manufacturer websites they actually list it but i couldnt find it on the alpine website. maybe if you find a very similar specced model sub from a different website that lists the min box volume u could just go off that. or look on some car audio forums and people will probably know off the top of their heads. Fhrx on this forum might know. (he has a sticky at the top of the car audio section for installing door speakers) maybe just pm him or something. from the majority of his posts on this forum it looks like he would know or be able to find out easily.
  15. I know you can buy premoulded boxes for about $350 that fit into the rear passenger side corner of the boot but havent been able to find any for the right corner strangely enough. might be different for the r33 though so could be worth asking car audio places if they can source them. then again if you really want to make them yourself youll save a fair bit of $$$. would want to use atleast 10-12mm thick mdf and then fibreglass it for added strength.
  16. I just installed eclipse sc6500 splits. 6.5" fits no worries, just mounted the tweeters onto the little triangle panel inside the rear view mirrors. if you're replacing the stock wiring aswell you have to take the doors off to drill thru the plugs (that wasn't a fun job) i did some sound deadening n stuff too. if you're lookin in the $300 - $350 range for a pair of front splits I'd recommend eclipse, alpine type-r's or focal. they're the only ones i heard in that price range and they were all damn good. The parcel tray is also the same size speakers. will have to take out the back seat and take off the child safety restraints though. speakers all screw straight into the standard mounts though which is nice. Are you running them off an amp or straight of the headunit?
  17. Just finished it this weekend. now ive gotta go back thru it and rescue all the little sisters and see the different ending.
  18. pretty sure the noise is comin from behind the main dash. dont get my car back till friday so will check then.
  19. no dimmer switch on mine either. and yes i get a weird hdd type noise too, not only when its cold though. just randomly all the frickin time. stereo drowns it out easily enough but would like to know what the hell it is makin that noise coz im sure it aint supposed to be makin a noise like that. and to the orignal post with the dash lights being dim. 666DAN sells led replacement kits for like $20 + delivery. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/t158385.html many colours to chose from I'll be getting a set of the bright white ones when he's back in action next week. also would like to get the xenons back in my car when i have money again (just put my car in for 100,000km service = $1500 goone.) anyways congrats on the new car
  20. no worries mate. I honestly thought it would look horrible but i now want that style and colour rim in 17" for mine. makes the car look really aggressive.
  21. I just took a couple of pics as a comparison for ya. standard gtt rim r23 gtst rim colour matched to gtr rim Depending on how it goes with the offsets it could look pretty tough if lowered enough. personally i'd be lookin for 17's that are styled similar to the 32gtr rims as the thick 5spokes look tougher than the thin 6spokes IMO
  22. Awesome work mate!!! Great to see you're restoring it to relatively stock performance. Cant wait to see it totally finished. It'll be a one of a kind 32 thats for sure.
  23. Well thats another place crossed off the list of places I'd like to visit. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more.
  24. Welcome to the forum and enjoy the new car. 33gtst is quite the upgrade from an 88 camry
  25. Yep back seat out, although its a bit easier in the 34 coz its bolts not clips to get the bottom of the seat out. child safety restraints off (why on earth to do they put them straight over the speakers anyway.) I have a crappy lookin parcel tray now coz its got a big hole thru each speaker grill.
