  1. Is that stock intercooler piping or an aftermarket setup? Basically the port on the opposite side of the adjustment bolt should connect to the pressure source (intercooler pipe) and the port adjacent to the bolt should connect to the wastegate actuator. You might need to cut the hose in half and put the turbotech in between. Don't forget to cable tie/clamp the ends. The turbosmart website has instructions for installing a boost tee. Works on the same principle as the turbotech. Take a look at the diagrams, that might help. Good luck mate.
  2. Hahahahaha yeh the guys on here are ruthless. Don't know everything about everything and you're burnt! I recently installed a turbotech on a stock ECU/turbo setup, just like the guy who posted this thread. After 11psi the ECU protects the engine by running rich (& retard) so you don't pump too much compressed air into the combustion chamber without enough fuel (as the factory air/fuel ratios haven't been tuned on the factory ECU above this boost setting). If the mixture runs lean you can bust the motor, i.e. warping conrods or the crank, that's why it does this. For example my R33 'hesitates' when i mash the throttle at 12+psi because it runs rich to keep the engine safe. This is what happens to you by the look of it. My advice is keep the boost set to 10psi, 11psi MAX. It is better for the stock turbo anyway. If you get the ECU remapped you can take it up to 1bar if the tuner is comfortable with it. Have fun
  3. Crap! I was planning on getting a bosch fuel pump...thought it was gonna be good for my stock turbo/ECU setup, guess it's just gonna have to be part of the plan leading up to a proper dyno run+ECU tune. Thanks for dashing my huge power hopes you smartarses
  4. Is there an advantage to having a Z32 AFM with my stock turbo/ECU setup?
  5. Interesting I have the turbotech also and i was curious that if i wanted to change boost settings manually, how the heck would my remap/piggyback adjust the AFR to the new levels? Otherwise i'd run lean/rich!
  6. Oohhh sh!t Ok i'm gonna pass on the Autronic What about going for a second hand Power FC or Emanage Ultimate? Do they keep well or deteriorate over time?
  7. Installing a manual boost controller on an R33 (stock intercooler) Pliers Rag Small bolt Cable ties WD-40 (optional) Cotton Buds (optional) Time: 20-30 mins Difficulty: Easy For this guide I used a TurboTech (TT) boost controller. I've written it for the guys i've seen posting that aren't sure what manual boost controllers do, or how to install them. It's a small job and not worth getting a mechanic to install if you have the time. There's other threads about manual boost controllers, and also about the TurboTech valve, but i've tried to be more detailed. Feel free to give comments & suggestions. Here's how to install it: Locate the factory soleniod on the right side of the engine bay. Here's what it looks like: First you remove the top hose form the solenoid. It's a bit hard to budge so Same story with the second hose on the solenoid. Remove it, it's connected to a tee-piece. The tee sits between hoses connecting the intercooler and wastegate actuator. The TT valve will replace the tee-valve here: There isn't much room to budge the tee out, so instead of risking a cracked or broken hose from excessive jerking just remove the hose connected to the intercooler. I sprayed a little WD-40 to make it easier, and used cotton buds to clean inside after it was off. Before you install the TT valve between the hoses adjust the bleed screw so you can blow freely into the top left barb. This keeps the boost level safe for initial adjustment. Install the valve so it looks like this: Make sure the clamps are fixed firmly to the hoses to prevent air leaking, or hoses popping off under pressure. Cable ties can also be used. Make sure when you take it out for a test you have a boost gauge - the valve works without it but it's just safer to recognise boost spike. Here's a quick list of BAR=PSI conversions so you can accurately read the boost levels. As far as i know stock Skyline turbos should be kept at about an 11psi/0.75BAR limit, as a short spike at higher boost could damage the turbine. 1 BAR = 14.5 psi 0.9 BAR = 13 psi 0.83 BAR = 12 psi 0.75 BAR = 11 psi 0.69 BAR = 10 psi 0.62 BAR = 9 psi 0.55 BAR = 8 psi 0.48 BAR = 7 psi Enjoy the extra boost! Notes: You should test the boost in different gears. I found that 3rd boosts a couple of pounds higher than 2nd. So try different gears throughout the rev range. Also you'll notice a serious mid-range power increase. That's where this valve does its best work. A final note- the hose you connect to the TT valve from the turbo has a small copper restrictor inside which funnels airflow through a small hole. Consider replacing this hose (marked with a red stripe) with hollow ones for improved airflow, or simply push the restrictor out with a screwdriver. I removed it and didn't notice an obvious power increase, but it goes toward increasing throttle responsivness. Nissansilvia.com has a thread about removing the factory restrictors. Good luck!
  8. Is the Autronic a piggyback unit too?
  9. Thanks Sam A remap was something i was unsure about...one thing i'm not sure about with it is do i have different 'modes' or settings that i can choose, like with a hand controller on a PFC??? That's what i'm after, i don't want ALL the engines power available when i'm driving to the shops, if you get me. I want FLEXIBILITY, cause a stockish 33 isn't of course. Is the remap option flexible? Thanks mate
  10. OK OK you guys sure like to give a 'variety' of opinions... So it's a PFC/EMU/Re-map/any of the other bloody numerous piggyback systems that i can choose? Sounds like most of u recommend the Emanage Ultimate. Well i'm happy to go for whatever is best for decent street power and the occassional circuit day. Not interested in drags btw. So for around $1500 i can have an EMU installed and tuned, with the speed limit restriction removed (car can then do 240km/h i'm told), two map settings (i.e. high/low boost) and it can be upgraded with new software as it comes out, meaning it will be a good long term investment. The PFC sounds too dear and too old now, and doing a stock ECU remap sounds OK, but i wanna give it some decent mods (incl. turbo upgrade) and up the power to app. 220rwkw, with some basic adjustability. I'm told a remap is limited in some ways. Is this sounding OK, or am i complete d!ck?
  11. Yeh congrats on the GTR brother, very neat I'm keen on a 32 GTR, bought a 33 gts-t but for a little more could've had one of those I reckon that'll be my next car, unless i can afford a 33 GTR! Have fun with it, and don't forget to embarrass the V8s
  12. Every time i've been to a mechanic i get "We'll call you when it's ready, mate". I haven't had my car tuned yet, i'm selling my limbs on Ebay to fund a tune, but i already expect the same treatment from tuners, unless i get to know them a little bit. I can understand the whole 'annoying customer thing' cause i've experienced that- i hate customers watching me work! Guess it depends if the tuner minds or not.
  13. My mate with a pretty worked R32 is gonna meet us at the M4 servo, though can't come on the cruise. He'll show you how to get from 0-20 in 0.5 seconds in the parking lot
  14. Yeh they are coilovers, the coil sits over the damper. Did some digging around and far as i know these are Nismo S-Tune coilovers. Can't find if they're adjustable or not...
  15. Here's a picture of the coilovers i have in my R33. They came on it when it was imported so i'm lost as to how they work. The ride is very firm and i wanted to know how to soften it. (FRONT) I also found this little dail under the bonnet. It's numbered 1-4 and i can twist the dail around with a screwdriver. Enlarge the picture and you'll see the black+white dail, it's tiny. So are these coilovers adjustable??? Is there a list of things i need to do to adjust them? (never had 'em before) The rear suspension doesn't have the dails but little knobs that can be turned with a wrench, though it's a little tougher to twist them round. Any help appreciated
  16. Just estimating i reckon we'd be back by late afternoon, maybe 5ish. Don't quote me on that though
  17. I know the road you're talking about, down into Megalong. It's nice i always take it and stop halfway at that little track that leads down to a small creek. I agree apart from the Hwy there isn't too much cruising track. The Megalong road will be fun if we take it though
