  1. I lived in Niseko for 4 years+ now 3+ in Sapporo and definitely rural driving was sweet except for the numbnuts who love to park on blind corners to use phone or sleep. There always seems to be some where they can pull off within in 10-50 metres but they just seem to stop in the most dangerous spot and wack the hazrds on. City driving on the other hand..well in sapporo...its insane the lack of common sense. theres days where you are glad you got home in one piece as everyone sems to want to kill you. Like I go racing with Japanese crew cars and bikes and they are switched on but the average bloke/sheila is in there own world and they only look one way and thats forward. Taxis...psycho's...Truckies...wired up loonies. I'm not Japan bashing as I love it here and she's been kind to me financially but drivng does has its days where I cant believe the stupidity. Dont get me started on winter driving in Hokkadaido as thats pure lunacy on the road. The upside to it is that its definitely clamed me down. I go back to Oz and drive there and the aggro on the road is off the show. Gunna be interesting with the new laws on back seat seatbelts. I'd love to know the stats on how many human missiles (kids) die each year. The cops here are gunna be flat out booking mums and dads for sure. Dunno how many times I've seen kids standing and jumping around on the back seat let alone front seat and its amazing that these drivers are the ones with the Children on Board stickers on their car.
  2. This is mainly aimed at crew that live here in Japan... So whats your opinion on the standard of the everyday Japanese driver.. Whats the worst driving / thing you have seen? Whats the worst road rage you have personally done in Japan? Personally, everyday I drive seems to be a video game...just trying not to get hit and stay in one pice and remain alive!.. Tunnel vision and the fact that mirrors are for doing makeup and checking the state of their hair, and thats just the blokes, drives me to drink. Suppose one of the worst road rage was after being tail gated for x amount of k`d and having the same f"#$%headstop cm`s from my bumper at traffic lights. The next set of lightds I calmy got out of me car, walked up to the idiot , opened his door and took his keys out and threw them away. I was driving a work van but eventually kesatsu came to me house and I got to spend 10 days with free room, board and meals, plus a fine. But the satisfaction on seeing old mates face was worth it..absolute gold! You should see winter here in Hokkaido, snow , ice and still no-one slows down except when they slam your bumper.
  3. J Spec..just wondering if history of repairs, would replacing a slightly dented left guard interfere with import..i hit a snow bank and got the guard replaced. It was minor but in japan they replace rather than fix.
  4. Well decided to go the nismo as i can get good discount thru my mechanic. Was looking at the ORC but once bitten twice shy of anything with carbon for now plus nuying 2 clutches in 4 months makes me go toward the Nismo. Grabbing nismo engine and gearbox mounts as well and some Defi guages going in while I wait for the clutch.
  5. You could go spend $6500 and study full time at jap lang school but you'll learn book japanese which does has its merits. OR you could put that money to better study and hit japanese bars and spade! You'll learn everyday japanese, get heaps of numbers even if your butt ugly, maybe get lucky (probably) but you will learn Japanese fast . Remeber JAPANESE bars, not ones where Gaijins hang out. You learn fast by not speaking english. You wanna read and write Japanese hit the books or go to a school, I've done the school road and its hell especially if your doing it for a visa.
  6. This will crack you up...looking at June 6th as the earliest I can get Nismo Copper from Nismo in Japan..None in stock...And you blokes reckon you gotta wait for parts..
  7. Well clutch plate fried and needs to be rebuilt. In the middle of a battle with the tuning shop. They reckon its my driving style, which is absolute ball twang as I've never been happy or confident in this clutch since installation, so never given it any stick. My guess is too much preload, friction plate burnt out super fast. Now big decision is go the rebuild or go something better. Looking at Nismo Twin Coppermix as I can get it through a friend for 30% off RRP plus higher HP rating and supposed to be pretty strong.
  8. I was looking at the twin but supposedly this clutch is rated to 600ps (about 590 HP) and for currrent state of mods was supposed to suit me to a tee. Plus I was thinking of sending the car to oz at the end of the year so didnt want to go too overboard with mods but that seems to have had the handbrake let off on that one. I was looking at street drivability as where I live in japan roads are covered in snow and ice for 3-4 months and was told twin would be a bitch thru this period as heaps of super slow driving and take offs.. The single did have great pedal feel and felt almost like stock and as I drive heaps in the winter I went the single road. The bonus of ice and snow is some insane drifting!!
  9. Hey Mate, its gotta be ya first suggestion of pre-load as I have not caned this clutch as its been suss since being installed. I always let the car come up to operating temps before putting the foot in and really have been driving the car like an old fart. Dropped the car off to workshop on monday, on the way it was flaring pretty bad. Basically sitting in 2nd on or just under 3000rpm then put the foot down (and honestly not that hard ) the clutch woud slipped real nasty, same with 3rd at 3000 rpm then foot down and slipped pretty solidly. It happened 4 or 5 times! Got to the workshop and took my tuner for a spin, he was scratching his head as to why but said there was no way it should be slipping but agreed it was and something wrong. Had him baffled as japanese tuners are pretty meticulous and these guys build some solid track/drift/drag/street cars. Anyway box and clutch are coming out to try suss the problem. I was looking forward to having this clutch in as they reckon the ATS ACROSS clutches are great clutches but for me its never been right. Real noisy with some hell strange noises, hopefully we get to the bottom of it as got track weekend next month and was looking forward to giving the car a good run. Just got to persevere and keep throwing the coin down the well they call a GTR! By the way I checked how many k's since install and its just a touch over 1800 km's and most of that was done in the snow and ice, the cars been in and out of the workshop getting other mods done so havent done alot of driving, still got snow tyres on. ..also I did the first 500 to exactly their instructions. ..didnt hit boost at all and basically drove like a granny until it was run in.
  10. No problem finding here in Hokkaido...usually at the 7 eleben
  11. Yep...its never been right ...makes some weird noises in the cold and it gets bloody cold here in winter (-10 to 15c) In slow traffic it shudders heaps..driving around on the ice is a bitch. Normal traffic its sweet..smooth take offs but the release point on the pedal has gone further and further out..It feels like I've fried it (did the last one a beauty) but I havent given this any stick, havent even spun the wheels as yet. The odd fast take off but only when moving..bloody frustrating as they reckon its a good clutch..
  12. Anyone have any ideas or info..desperate for info as car goes back to tuner tomorrow..
  13. I recently got a ATS single plate Carbon Clutch installed and having problems with it. I've done about 1500 km's so far and from installation have never really been happy with it. The last 2 weeks I've had a copul of times in 2nd and 3rd where there has been big slipping...Today going up a mild hill changing from 2nd to 3rd I put my foot down and wrrrrr big slip again. I've noticed the positon of clutch release has changed to almost 90% out, intially it seemed to be about 70%, the position definitely seems to have changed, any more and there will be no clutch. What I'm wondering is can this clutch be adjusted or if release fork can be adjusted would this help. I can honestly say I have given this clutch no harsh treatment at all. I've taken it back to the workshop (its Japanese Hi peformance shop here in Japan) 2 weeks and they reckon its fine. It's deinitely got worse since then. The cars (GTR 33) going back this monday for other mods, so I'll get them to suss again but if anyones got any ideas or experiences with ATS Carbon clutches any heads up would be great!! By the way this clutch is supposedly rated to 550ps and car would only be putting out 450 at the moment.
  14. Mate I'm in if it can be sent to Japan
  15. I screwed up there..was first chance I got to see it on the box...
  16. Was watching the Super GT last night (japan) and the the new 35's were just kicking arse..fell asleep but woke up to see the new GTR 35 won...What I did see was was a one horse race with the GTR out on its lonesome without any competition.. Was interesting to see them pass then NSX...the GTR made the NSX look small and slow..just monstered past..was a bloody impressive outing..
  17. Dodgy...Level 1....why not translating...bloke if ya love snowboarding then head to Niseko...there's still ridiculous opportunities there. I have 7 + years living there and Hokkaido, got my finger well and truly in the pie and that pie just gets bigger every year..Yep japanese think its a bubble..yep it will plataeu at some stage but the best is yet to come..the Chinese are hitting it in a big way and with over 2,000,000 skier/snowboarders...well thats alot of cash registers going bling, bling.. Seriously i have a love/hate relationship with this country..the candy..(girls) Awesome!!! Kabba Kura..I lov'em (remember my local night spot is Susukino, mention that to any japanese guy and watch his eyes light up) the country has some amazing beauty, fast cars,no hassles from cops and the people can be over the top friendly..There are still heaps of opportunity here...Summer here...beer,bbq's and girls,girls,girls...bloody heaven..Downsides..The Drivers...worst case of tunnel vision ever..I'm putting together a vid/photo of world most stupidest things done on a road...The paper work hoops you have to jump through..drive me crazy..the way they dont bend rules !! And the 2 word I hate the most...Shoganai...Mandokusai!!! Keep me away from the cricket bat!! I've done a hell of alot of travelling and bumming around but life here now is sweet..great opportunites have been had and lifes good...wouldnt trade the time here for anything..been bloody fun..just need to hit the eject button now and again, get out for a holiday and come back fresh to jump back on the japanese merry go round.. Dodgy if your interested for hookups in Niseko rgarding work pm me..I'd be studying my chinese but..
  18. Is there a link to download????
  19. Cheers blokes... Chris it is an upgrade..still a single but supposed to be rated to 550-600ps..carbon clutch..Pedals a bit heavy but not too bad..its a 50/50 feel..on/off.. Beer Baron..I had a bit of bearing noise before with the old clutch (factory) but definitely alot louder now..I'll just turn up the stereo..Having the box out later this month/early next month for overhaul so will get them to replace bearing then..I didnt think they wouldnt replace thrust bearing, japanese too thorough..As for driving style its pretty sweet on the road but in traffic on ice its hard not too ride as you slide so much..can make for some hairy moments..I'm trying to have most of my upgrades done over winter here as its a not a matter of if you crash here..its more like when.. cheers again fellas..
  20. Howdy.. I just got a ATS single plate carbon clutch put in my R33...destroyed the original..Only problem is if its slightly ridden I get a pretty solid rattle plus with clutch pedal out there's fair wack of bearing noise..I've done searches here but my greif is that I live here in japan and its holiday time and my tuner isnt open until next week..I dont know if he thought he'd save me a few yen by not doing the thrus/input bearing, have to wait to find out.. Clutch has only done 250 k's so far ..500 to run in and I'm only riding as little as possible but living in the north if japan I'm driving on ice everyday so clutch in and out alot to stop wheelspin and get some forward momentum.. Anyway any usefull info be great...anyone else used these clutches.. http://www.carbonetic.net/products/single.html
  21. Mate I get mailed about average 3-5 a day ( 33's) that are up for auction here in J land , there's heaps, aint gunna run out any time soon.
  22. Naah bloke, dont do it myself for modified car..Japanese mates I know with shops are rippers at getting modifications through but as you said being in Osaka compared to good old country Hokkaido, your cops are hell of alot more intense. Honestly its really a joke up here, my work car (legacy Gt) had the noisest exhaust and humngus system on it pluss was so lowered it worked better as a snow plough in winter and never ever had a problem getting through. Supposedly replacing low beam globes with snow globes is illegal but everyone here has them and when it comes to shaken , well again no probs..I could probably put a slab for the mechanic on the back seat but dont want to start a trend. In 6 years I've never personally been pulled over the closest was a cop at the lights telling me I didnt have back tail light as it had been smashed out drifting in the snow and he wouldnt stop with the sumimasens. He didnt stop me just pointed it out at the lights and went on his way..
