People need to take their blinkers off! Do you really think the cars being entered by Ford and Holden are their best efforts? For the rules of the class they are. But given a clean sheet to enter "their best efforts" nobody would be able to afford to go racing! Just like in the Grp A days they all put in their best efforts in line with the rules. Any rules that allow a twin turbo car that makes more power, more torque and allowed to run 4wd with bigger tyres then rwd V8s and 2L turbos is a flawed class. There was a reason they were made to run weight penalties as the rules were way off what they needed to be to have a field of competitive cars. If I saw that the rules allowed me to run something like a GT3 Exige in the Grp A class, the result would have been the same as what the GTR achieved until the rule makers caught up with the inequality in the rules Nissan saw the hole in the regs and built the sharpest tool in the shed. Hats off to them. So I love how the great news of Nissan returning to domestic racing is met with negativity saying that they will be held back. Look at Europe, if we had it so wrong why have they started a series much the same as ours with the V8 Superstars? And people that complain about the quality of the V8 Supercars racing need to actually watch a GT500/GT300 race. They are boring as bat shit with cars very rarely actually racing. As a motorsport fan still great to watch due to the variety of cars, but its hardly good , close racing.

So Will Sau Folk Still Refuse To Watch V8 Supercars
Roy replied to Roy's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Why is it boring? It is generally good racing. My only gripe is that I dont really like any of the current crop of drivers. Lowndes is popular with most people, but I simply don't like many of the current crop of drivers. So its hard for me to get behind any particular team/driver. Racing is racing is racing...I will watch just about anything race so I am easily pleased -
Lot of detractors in these parts regarding V8 Supercars. So I wonder with Nissan back in Australia's premiere local tin top series are people going to tune in? What will be real interesting is who partners with Nissan next season. I hope they go with a proven performer like Rogers Motorsport, or Kelly Racing. Hopefully this will sew the seed for a one or two other manufacturers getting behind teams. That was one of the most telling things about the V8 Superstars round I watched last year. You had V8 Maseratis, Mercedes, BMW, Chryslers, Jags...the previous season you had Porsche with the Panemera.

Nobody pays me for anything. I was like the stray little kid following Jarrod around carrying his camera gear hoping he would introduce me to some Belgian models The blazing inferno was a Chrysler 300C that didnt make it through quali....must have been a fuel fire or a catastrophic engine failure as it burnt for about 5 minutes

Best of luck this week with the wedding Brad. Was only thinking the other day that Fatz is probably going to hit you up in abut 4 years time for some nice chrome moly monkey bars for his backyard and his little slugger to play on. I am betting your kids will have the coolest, custom fab swing set ever to be played on

LOL, yeh the pains of being a photographer. We were sitting at the inside of La Source watching them all do skids on their first few outlaps for quali....Jarrod was busy taking pics I just sat there having a hand feed as I didnt want to miss any of the action in real time by watching it through the lens of a camera. At times it mst suck to be a photographer I caught these during the start of a race that weekend. The Jag was in the wars all weekend

Thats it, keep your cards close to your chest Woo. The special RB20 crate motors will only go up in price as demand increases. Just hope word doesnt get out

Serisouly , if you are running the std manifold. As big a fan of the Mitsu tubos I am if I had an RB25 and wanted to run std manifold then I would go for http://www.atpturbo.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=tp&Product_Code=GRT-TBO-020&Category_Code=GRT

Where did you get that quote from? I had a quick read and in my opinion the assumptions are flawed.

As i posted the day McLaren revealed the car. There was so much about the car that was Melb Airport special and plastic demo bits....they dont want to give anything away and want to keep people guessing. I am still betting their car will be substantially different when they get to Australia and betting the nose is in for changes once they complete some testing I quite like the Williams. I am hoping this year is the start of changing fortunes...but only time will tell. The car looks pretty good, but lacking sponsors so another lean year of development I wish there was streams of testing. I am so hungry for the return of F1 I would probably watch it

Does sound like the turbo. But before you go spendong mony; - Does the car have its.carbon canister/ pollution gear? - Have you got the std PCV setup or running a catch can system? - Have you checked to see if its using any oil? - Is the engine built, standard...whats the history of the car?

Wah, wah, wah...head restraints , HANS ?!?! Harden up and get a titanium upgrade I am concerned that Snowie suggested i get a HANS device. Not sure what he has planned this weekend

Mint wheel and re price. If you are not in a hurry hang tough. Your problem is you are selling 17" and people want 18". And Most people buying these offset wheels are GTR folk and they want min 9.5", more often 10.5". So price is reasonable...you just have to hang on for someone that actually wants a neat 17X 9 for a non fuss install on his R32 GTR

Is it wise to throw a turbo on an NA motor that isnt running E85? Surely it makes more sense to just buy a thicker head gasket and set the CR to a more turbo friendly level?

Interesting that Unilever are onboard with Rexona at Lotus

I have only seen the one result with a T518Z 10cm on an SR20 so basing a conclusion on one car is pretty dangerous...but it appeared to offer less power than a 20G but with the same lag. So why not run a 20G and have the same drivability and make more power? I suspect that only finding one result which wasnt encouraging is the reason there are not plenty of cars out there running such a setup?!?!?! It simply doesnt work well?!?!?! I ended up going 8cm on my TD05-18G as you cant be all things for all occasions. I accept that if you go to a TD05-18G then you are going to gain response and lose power. Going to smaller turbine/compressors for response then putting bigger housings on them to make power doesnt seem to work as good in practice as it may in theory.

Thats great to know for the sake of the charts you are posting. Also, my car makes 275 on United 100RON, simply cant take the ignition of that tune if I run 98 so it drops to 260rwks on 98. I personally dont like my chances of the same tuner, using the same dyno going to a smaller turbo from the same manufacturer and making the same power. I stop increasing boost when it stops making power. I get more mid torque with a few more psi but at 19-20psi there isn't much more to be had. I mention that as well to highlight its not going to be likely that I simply run a bit more boost on the smaller turbo to make the same power. I really don't know how much peak power I am going to lose going to the TD05H-18G....but I feel I may only get back to my 20G power figure with a 50/50 E85. Would love to be the idiot who has got it all wrong and am now going to make the same power with a TD05H-18G as I do with a TD06-20G (Both 8cm housings)
-
But my car doesnt run on Trents dyno does it Would be interesting to see what my car made on his...higher or lower...but going on the dyno that my car runs on if I make 260 out of a 18G with an 8cm housing then I am doing well, Interested to see the cars making an easy 260rwkws on 98. Looking at SR20s running T518Zs there arent too many making 260rwkws on pump?!?! 240-250 seems more the norm.

The CHRA was made up with the L2 turbine and 73HTA compressor by a turbo shop, so its all balanced and just needs lines connected and bolted up. Well at least thats the plan. When I have got my current TD06-20G off I will line up all 5 turbos and take good side by side pics and break out the verniers for more accurate measurements. I have been reading some of my old uni pump design texts and trying to get an understanding of the impact surface finish has on compressor performance. Its interesting that there are documented negatives when deailing with fluids, but harder to quantify for ideal gases. The surface finish of the billet wheel is pretty good, but looking at an EFR 7670 today the EFR turbos have a much higher surface finish. Its probably in the area of around 0.4um going by the materials we use in pharma. So may send the TD05H-18G off for some extrude honing of the compressor wheel to polish it up and see if it makes any difference in performance. Think I found a place in the US that makes billet little nuts for the compressor too so for wank will throw that on after the honing of the compressor wheel. All helps, I want to see if the little 18G can make 260rwks on E85
