  1. I thought it was 7.5W-30 factory recommended. I'm using 5W-30 and don't have any oil pressure problems. I actually slightly over-filled it and I was waiting for some of it to burn off but it's not happening.
  2. Blind_elk, unfortunately I wouldn't be interested in a group buy now either, because I'm too poor But $440 for only 2 lines is exactly double what you should be paying. Give Race Brakes in Melbourne a call and you should be able to get all 4 for that price. The guys in Sydney actually get them made in Melbourne and courier'd up, so it might be even cheaper than that for you to buy locally.
  3. Summoner, I would be more inclined to agree with many of your points (as I do with Roy) if you weren't so abusive in nature. You see a Skyline owner bag out Commodores and you take it all personally and start belittling Skylines for no apparent reason. "most of whom's cars are shit slow compared to a decent commodore (read bog stock LS-1)." <- All I can see is a lot of insecurity with statements like that. Both cars run 14 second quarter miles when stock, is that really "shit slow"? On top of that, are "most" Skylines (that are owned by readers of this forum) stock-standard? What are you really trying to cover up for here? That a 10-year old Skyline makes almost as much power as a brand new Commodore? (how does it fare with the VR's and EL's of the same era?) Or maybe that there are many people trading their Commodores in for Skylines, but very few going in the opposite direction? Why would that happen at all, if Skylines are slow pieces of shit as you say? I also can't understand how you can say that an R33 Skyline beating a VC Commodore is not valid, but a VX/VY beating an R33 is? The age differences are roughly the same in each direction of the R33. Flame away if you must, but at least put what I've said into perspective. I find PuppaDuck's comments about Group A racing to be both inaccurate and not relevant (but his comments about depreciation are fairly close to the truth), but I don't feel the need to abuse him or his choice of car for it. And nor am I abusing yours.
  4. I think this thread should be moved to the Wasteland.
  5. Hehe cool. Well when the pads get low and you get a similar sound, you'll know what to look for. Machining is always a good idea when new pads go in.
  6. How do you figure that? The filter is a restriction. The better flowing, the more power you get.
  7. Get anti-squeal compound from Auto 1 or Supercheap etc.
  8. I don't know if pods offer more power than the standard air box because mine came with a pod and no box. In theory I guess they should, they have more surface area and a better shape for the intake.
  9. I got an Apexi pod and it seemed to offer slightly less power than when I had my friend's borrowed HKS pod on. But that was because of all the extra hot air it sucked in (the HKS pod kind of faces forwards and suchs in more air from the front) because once I put the cold air box in, it had more power than the HKS. $180 is a good price. I got mine from Japan for less than that, but I kind of *cough*avoided*cough* customs. The car doesn't need to be tuned for the pod/box, and it shouldn't run any richer than normal. Not enough to require tuning anyway, but an S-AFC or the like always helps.
  10. Err, did you read the first reply to your post?
  11. Aha! I had this exact same problem. I am fairly sure yours will be the same. What mine was, was a small metal bracket on the pads which detect when the pads are getting low. I'm not sure if it's meant to connect some optional electrical circuit and thus give you a warning on your dash as to when they are worn out, or if you just have to rely on the squeal that they give when touching the disc. Either way the warning system works well, when you know what it is! My metal brackets were a little too far in for my liking (about 2mm of pad left) , so I pushed them out a bit so that they would go off again at 1mm or so. My new pads don't have these metal brackets, so I'll see if I can remove them from the old ones and re-attach them in a semi-permanent way.
  12. I too have noticed with the cooling of the weather the climate control tends to be on the floor vents more often than the face vents. If the trend reverses again this summer I will presume that all is normal.
  13. Try removing and re-applying the anti-squeal compound, sometimes it doesn't set properly on the back of the pad. But most of the harder compound pads (especially ones with metal) will squeal even if everything is ok. A lot of it is just the luck of the draw. I got some RB74 pads the other day to be put in next weekend, and I can see some brass or copper particles in them. I'm guessing these also will be quite noisy but all I can do is try them and see what happens.
  14. No, I was talking about the caliper pistons. The master cylinder also has a piston inside it. My brakes feel fine other than a little stickiness every now and then so I think my master cylinder is ok for now. Hang on, where did you get $85 from? That was the price of rubber hoses rather than metal braided, and not the seals of anything. The caliper seals are $48.
  15. I got some more prices from Race Brakes, the braided lines are $110 each (rubber is $85 each so there's no point in getting them), and the caliper recondition kits are $48 per corner. I can (just) afford the recondition kits, but not the braided lines at this stage. I think I will just replace the brake fluid and replace both seals and hoses in about 6 months time when I have some spare cash. I don't want to replace the seals only to find I have to do it again later because the old deteriorating hoses have pushed a bunch of crap back into them.
  16. So..... How much were they, and will they mail them to Sydney? PM me if you don't want to disclose details publically.
  17. I think the site is a little ambiguous. The policy actually states that it does not cover your car if you park it on the street within 500m of your home, or in any public car park (ie shopping centres, train stations, paddocks, etc) between the hours of 11pm and 8am. I actually like this rule, because it keeps them from having to pay out on idiots leaving their cars parked anywhere thinking "she'll be right, insurance will cover it if it gets stolen" and thus keeps premiums lower.
  18. Roy, how much did it cost you to get all that done including parts and labour?
  19. I've only tried Just Jap, I've had no success with any other Sydney wreckers for Skyline parts. They couldn't help so I just gave up.
  20. Yeah will do, I'll ask if they have 2 if/when they reply. I think I might have tried the above URL before with no success, just can't remember if I did it after I got the car. I've used it before with mixed results for other car and motorcycle parts.
  21. I don't care if they are ADR approved or not, I will paint them black so any cops will think they're rubber Silver-Arrowz, is that $500 for all 4 or just the fronts? Miss_Nismo, how much were yours? If they can make them up without having to match them up to my hoses, do you think they'd mail-order them across to Sydney? Oh, in case anyone's wondering, I also plan to re-condition the calipers. The rubber seals should be easy enough to get for a reasonable price (I imagine, will check on Monday).
  22. Yeah a hardware store is a bitch. It's not like we can reverse our cars into the store and mix and match bolt lengths and threads to get the right one. Also I think you need some sort of metal plate for the bolt to sit on if it's like other cars I've seen. Maybe try www.findapart.com.au. I'll send them a request too I think.
  23. My brake pistons are getting a little sticky, so I think I want to replace the hoses. Does anyone know where I can get braided lines from, and roughly how much they are? Actually, how much are normal lines? If the braided ones are too expensive I might have to settle for normal ones.
  24. Talk to the father when the kid is home. The father will confront the kid and he should be able to tell instantly if he is lying or not. Don't say you witnessed the vandalism yourself, but say that someone who did witness it told you. That way you don't have to lie about specifics, because you were just told what happened by someone else.
  25. No they weren't, they were designed first and foremost as a family sedan. It's just that they happen to be the right size and shape to take the performance upgrade and 2 door treatment more readily than a Commodore or Falcon (ie, Skyline coupe weighs less than Skyline sedan, the opposite for Commodore). The Skyline was never a sports car from the ground-up, not even the R34.
