Auto gear boxes which, when used in manual mode have the upshift & downshift function upside down. Most boxes you have to press forward to change up & pull back to change down. This is backwards & counter intuitive. One fo the few companies to get it right is Ford. Indicator stalk on the left hand side of the steering wheel in a right hand drive car is a long time bug bear. Interlocks which make you put your foot on the brake to change between drive & reverse.

Well an unloaded, ie inside wheel that spins will have much less an of an affect on the balance of the car than you may otherwise get. Remember that the GT-R drivetrain as standard only has a rear LSD, the front is open. Even then it isn't the tightest thing in the world & it you listen to most GT-R's on tight circuits you will hear the wheelspin. Mostly it doesn't upset the balance of the car.

The point I am making (or trying to) is that there is a difference between competing & acting in your own short term self interest but to the detriment of the sport. It is sport & however much people may have invested in it, winning at any cost should never be an option. Near on all the other teams understand this & conduct themselves accordingly. You can single out Ferrari for it as their track record contains a litany of such actions. To use but one example - who is the only team running cigarette advertising despite all the remaining teams forgoing the income as per their agreement?

Well I agree more with Paul Stoddart: http://www.pitpass.com/fes_php/pitpass_new...es_art_id=32733

I think you have to look more so at the configuration of the car than simply blame a wind tunnel malfunction. They still have their own test track to confirm the CFD data spat out by their computers. Anyway, it wasn't aero that did for Massa in the last race, it was a bung damper. Kimi was a bit stuffed after walling it prior tot he race. If you check the race even the commentators were noticing the inherently superior damping on the McLarens relative to the Ferraris. So maybe less wind tunnel & more the kindly folk at Koni. I don't believe that Ferrari does (or ever has) give a sh!t about anything other than Ferrari. It was always the case, going back to the days when Enzo was still running the show. He made Macciavelli look like a rank amateur. It is not restricted to Ferrari, Tom Walkinshaw was a master at playing silly games to his team's short term benefit & to motor sports long term detriment. But he went bankrupt, so maybe there is hope for us yet.

Yes it was different. Benetton were blatantly cheating. Well it has to be said, Ferrari would be better off spending there time making a car that can finish a GP & maybe also one that doesn't randomly head straight for the nearest concrete wall for no good reason. The stuff about emails was largely a figment of some Italian journalists imagination. The rest? Removing a teams constructors points for a pit lane shit fight that cost them anyway. FFS. No idea why the FIA got involved with that at all. The Stepneygate thing can hardly be sheeted home to Ron Dennis who is has the most integrity of anyone the pit lane. (Well, maybe equal to Frank Williams & Co)
-
They won't. Look what happened to Benetton all those years back. Their shit was more dodgy & they didn't get chucked out. The FIA have already passed judgement, so they can hardly go from no penalty to turfing them out. Although they did that to Tyrrell in 86. Also given the new allegations are made up anyway, why bother about them? The gearbox is much kerfuffle about nothing. What McLaren interpretted as a modification, the FIA interpreted as a new component. It wan't anyone being dodgy, just interpreting things differently. It passed the crash test, anyway.

Help Deciding On New Car :d
djr81 replied to Beelzebub89's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Thing that went wrong: Battery went flat when I didn't shut the door properly. One had a small oil leak from the rear turbo that fell into the too hard to fix category. Ventilation systems are a bit random in their function (Common to alot of Skylines) Maintenance. Front suspension bushes aren't brilliant. Bit hard on brakes as a rule. That is it. Alot of what I have had done is because I am a fussy prick. Like I said, buy a good one & you will be happy. Buy a dog & you will be in a whole world of pain. So if you unsure of anything, best take along someone who really knows their Skylines (Not just a mate, in other words.) Infact in an unsolicited reference, have a look at Beer Barons R32. That is the sort of thing I would recommend whole heartedly. http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/in...=183345&hl= -

Ok, now I am confused (doesn't take much) Obviously you have an AP caliper on the front. What is this teamed up with? Oh and which caliper is it exactly? -

R32 Gt-R's were built until late 1994. So the youngest of them is 13. I own one, so I would like to think I know what they are. (It is my 4th). Consequently I look after it well. If it needs fixing it gets fixed properly. I certainly doesn't get "the pants driven off it". It doesn't have a rebuilt engine, nor does it need one. If you are looking at a budget I would suggest $25k for a late model, relatively stock example. Buy a nice one, not a cheap one. Don't get too enamoured by the mods, the car itself has to be good. There are plenty about locally to the extent that I wouldn't bother importing one yourself unless you know people in Japan. A good R32 Gt-R will probably be the best car you will ever own. -
R32, Abs, Rears Locking Up..
djr81 replied to luke20t's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
R32 GT-R's brakes are somewhat rear biased and usually lock the rears first. So what you are experiencing is nothing abnormal, unless ofcourse it is happening with very little retardation. Some questions: How firm is the pedal? Does the ABS release the wheel, ie do you get the usual ABS feedback through the pedal, albeit at a slow rate because the system is pretty slow? -
Having watched the race I reckon the best bit of driving was by the blokes in the safety cars. Before the race started whoever was pedalling the MB estate backed the thing into the chicane in a way that was just pretty to watch. Later on the safety car was sideways not long after entering the circuit proper. Nice work. Shame the race was rubbish. Here is hoping Williams can keep improving.

Wheel Sizes & Offsets For Skylines
djr81 replied to Sydneykid's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Skyline model = R32 GT-R Front - Wheel type - Blitz 10 spoke (No idea what they are called) Wheel diameter = 17" Wheel width = 9" Wheel offset = +22 Tyre size = 255/40/17 RE55's Modifications to fit = Nil Rear - Wheel type - Blitz 10 spoke (No idea what they are called) Wheel diameter = 17" Wheel width = 9" Wheel offset = +22 Tyre size =255/40/17 RE55's Modifications to fit = Rolled guards. Question: I want to upgrade to an 18" rim, but am unsure as to whether a 9" or a 9.5" would be more appropriate & which tyre they would go with. Tyre selection is either245/40/18 or 265/35/18. So choice is 1 of three. 1 9 inch rim with 245 bag tyre. 2 9.5 inch rim with 245 bag tyre. 3 9.5 inch rim with 265 bag tyre. Will the last of these fit given my 255's are marginal as best. -
For my 10 cents worth I would pick: RDA rotors out of the group buy. Ferodo pads DS2000 or 2500's (take your pick) - they are much better than the Rb74's from my experience. Fluid is cheap - even the Motul RBF600 is $28 a 500ml bottle & is as good as you will get. More pedestrian stuff is half the price (if that) Stay away from the Brembo calliper as fitted stock to the Nissans. It is really no better than the Sumitomo version you can get for much less money. The only gain is in rotor diameter. Also, IMHO the DBA4000 series are a waste of money. Put simply, if you use them for their intended purpose they will crack due to insufficient internal cooling vanes & a bad slot design. So why pay over $300 a corner for that sort of nonsense. If you don't need to up spec the rotors, why pay that sort of money for something you don't need?
-
Short answer. Yes. Does is easilly in a GT-R.
-
Yes an R32 GT-R pump is a good upgrade. There is no reason to suggest that the pump in question would be on its way out. People upgrade their Gt-R pumps when upgrading their motors, so if you ask the seller (nicely) & check on the kms/age of the unit you will be fine. They are a direct fit (afaik) & given the prices you can't really go wrong.

Perth Gtr Clocked At Over 200kmph - Done For Antihoon Laws
djr81 replied to MattyP's topic in Western Australia
Well I am not sure if you have noticed (either you or your mate) but the police & the state government have basically declared jihad on anyone who has even a half interest in cars. People doing stupid stuff like this only allows the government to further their agenda - why do you think their PR is so finely honed to publicising incidents like this? Your mates actions (& people like him) are the direct cause of making life more difficult for anyone who owns an import or a modified car. So Lastly he wasn't unlucky to get caught. He was lucky he didn't kill himself. Or his mates. Or someone else. He should be thankfull the coppers stopped him. Anyway with the amount of trouble he is in now & the repercussions this will have on him for a long time to come, no amount of internet flaming will make a blind bit of difference. -
You don't have to wonder. Just look at the history of sports car racing.
-
Well I hate all of you. Hang on... If Nissan bring it in on a full volume basis (Which doesn't mean they will sell many) then kiss goodbye to any RAWS/SEVS imports at a later date. Here is hopiing they do what Mitsubishi did & limit it to 100 per annum. Better result long term, but you can kiss goodbye to the prospect of them selling the cars for $120k if that is what happens.
-
That is obviously Andrea De Cesaris, but I can only guess it is also Betrand Gachot. Is he out of jail, now? I would nominate the Tyrrell-Honda... As an aside it looks like the FIA are going to do McLaren over good & proper.
