Occasionally you see adverts in the Auto Fiction when BJR are looking for people. I always figured that if you listed your hobbies on your cv something like below you would be a shoe in: Hobbies: Fighting. Arguing with my brother. Watching Russell Crow movies. My money is on the Jones boy - he is match fit....

Pretty much as it says in the title. I am after a pair of REAR Brembo calipers from either an R32 or an R33. If you have them with hatted rotors I would be interested in those too. Cheers djr81

You can be damn sure that Walkinshaw won't be backward in coming forward in charging anyone for services rendered. Question of the day: Who would win in a fight: Kim Jones or Tom Walkinshaw? Or Kim's "mate out the back"

Couple of golden rules when dealing with the dpi. 1. Never ever submit a form that is not fully filled out. If they see stuff unfinished they have no basis to accept your application - because they just don't know - how could they? Also if it is non compliant state by how much it is non compliant by - sometimes they will give you a break. Just not often. 2. Never ever ask them a question if you already don't know the answer. They will probably just make shit up that makes your life harder. Oh and that link appears broken.

Yes but it had an LS1 in it, not a Windsor. If you want to run a Windsor you need to spend up on some nice alloy heads, probably a stroker kit & pay close attention to manifolding & exhausts. Even then I don't think it will hold a candle to an RB26. None the less good luck. Oh & top loaders are well old school. Try Tremec, rubbish shift feel aside.

Advice, R32 Gtr Brake Setup
djr81 replied to Dynamix's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Should fit. Check the ap racing website for their template for that rotor size with the CP5555 caliper. The 6 pot CP5555 is larger than the 4 pot Nissan Brembo or the Sumitomo. In any case you can readilly compare the caliper sizes. But I don't know of a cheap 343 rotor.... -
Well to be fair BJR has a pretty good history of running customer cars - after all that is what the Audi's were. McConkey drove well for them too. Also they did have periods of competitiveness going back a few years. I think that overwhelmingly budget is what is killing them. They are renowned for making a dollar go far, but there is only so much you can do. Look at their response to the control rotors - HRT were saying they saved money because they replaced them prior to every rave anyway. BJR previously used one or two sets for all the weekend... The hard bit would be to convince a company to stump up the N million dollars needed to run competitively when BJR lack the infrastructure necessary to yield results quickly. So the only viable mechanism to get around it is to go the customer car route. Unfortunately this meant one of Walkinshaws dodgy deals - I would have thought they could have done what DJR did & got the 888 suspension package. There was nothing inherently wrong with either the chassis (A Britek proved) or the engines (As Lowndes proved). Although the djr cars did seem to hose the 888/SBR cars up the hill last weekend. Any rumours on who the prospective sponsor is, local curry house excepted? In any case given Holden funding structure I wouldn't imagine that they offered BJR truck loads of cash.

Hmm, double post(er) -
If you have about $25k you should be able to find a very nice example indeed. If you are overly worried about maintenance & running costs get a stock or near stock one. As for insurance well that is hugely dependant on your record/age/location etc etc. Can be anywhere from $250 (third party I got quoted) to $3000 for full cover if you live over east & are young etc. Other maintenance depends on your usage. They aren't inherently different from any other car. If you flog it on the roads you will be paying more in fines & court costs than maintenance - so don't bother. Most of what you need can be sourced either from Nissan, from SAU or the traders here. Best advice is take you time, find a nice one. Then look after it.

Ah, ok. Thought you meant this one. -
I find the inherent problem is that there are too many keyboard warrior experts who have never driven one, let alone owned one. They form their opinions based on what they read on the internet & what their equally uncredentialled mates think. Look at the car the same way you would look at any car. Is it in good condition, well maintained? Is it well modified, well priced? If you aren't sure you are sufficiently knowledgeable then find a shop who is. You can pretty easily tell a car that has been looked after. Once you are past that stage get it looked at properly.

I can't wait until people start looking down their noses at the 2008 model, much like they do the 89's.

I used to get sarcasm, but since this whole interweb thing happened I can't pick it any more. Much like Ford Prefect. Broadly steel density is 7860 kg/m3. Titanium is about 4400kg/m3. As for strength well it depends on what type of alloy, but not dissimilar in its range to steel. Much of its gain/utility is at high temperatures. Aluminium, for example, is complete rubbish at high temps. Lastly, wtf is it with engineers & Skylines. Am I just conforming to a stereotype being one & having the other, or is there something more too it than that? You lot should harden up & get some castlated pistons.

I had the guts pulled out of the oil pump & cryoed. For the Walt Disney style whole of body thing - well I didn't have enough dollars, so I just got something other than the gear knob done.
-
It supposedly increases the fatigue resistance of the components, but not their strength. I wouldn't expect that doing much other than say the oil pump gears or similar components would be worth your while. Mine cost $30 or thereabouts.

Which one, the one with the cars & staff lined up outside the workshop? Or another one? -
It is not a matter of him backing down or otherwise. It is a matter of the rules allowing him to run a McLaren chassis or not. Currently he can't, so no Prodrive for 2008. Which is fine because he needs to fix the bloody WRC cars anyway.

Hmm, I watched the group A racing. It sucked. The GT-R's smashed everything & the racing was profoundly dull. If anyone thinks that Group A was in anyway viable post 1992 then they are sadly mistaken. Looking at the current grids it is almost impossible to believe that top level racing in Australia had a near death experience in the mid nineties. Channel 7 was about to dump ATCC coverage & frankly if it wasn't for channel 10 there would be no V8's, or much else for that matter. Just club level stuff. Also for those people who erroneously believed the GT-R's were constructed to a level far above the V8's - well given the same people are still involved with the teams that is just nonsense also. Now I love my GT-R in ways that border on the unnatural. But Group A is dead & gone & it is time people got over it. Moot point, mute point or whatever else.

Roy, the Prodrive thing has fallen on its arse. So, no chance.
-
Rumour has it he may sign to drive for the Jones brothers who are going to run a Walkinshaw Holden next year with new sponsorship. Ford didn't offer them fk all/any money to trail around behind everyone so looks like they have jumped ship. Then Ford stopped them from announcing it all on the weekend, helpfully pointing out the relevant contract clauses.

Hard Rubber On Tyres After Track
djr81 replied to nuffsaid's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Tyres get hot - then they go hard after they cool down. Happens to all of them. You will get pick up from the track - have you also noticed all the random black smudge marks on your paintwork? Is it a bad thing? Well if you want ultimate grip then yes it is. Road tyres don't like track work. If you are having a proper go they don't actually last much longer than good R compounds....
