  1. In WA neither CAMS nor the series run events. They are run by the car clubs themselves. See here. 2010SESeriesRegulations.pdf
  2. We have precisely two tracks over here. Both CAMS. Sorry I didn't explain myself re tyres. I was trying to reference rules that prohibit the use of R comp tyres & force you to use harder more road biased stuff. Which don't work well nor last well.
  3. Well my experience is completely the opposite. The CAMS speed series over here brings heaps of new people into the sport & basically allows people to run whatever they like. So it is both easy to get into & sanctions by CAMS. Last year some 300+ individuals entered one or more of our events. A great many people move on to racing. For that matter many entrants do sprints etc because they no longer have the time or inclination to run full blown race meetings. Some people do both. Some people (like me) enjoy it for what it is. The problem I have with most "time attack" class structures is that it forces you to run on sht tyres.
  4. For what it is worth: In WA the CAMS sanctioned sprint series has a completely different slass structure to that talked about here. It is a championship series too. The people running it are progressive too for that matter. See www.speedeventseries.com if you are interested. Mostly the term time attack is used by people who heard about it on a DVD they got with a Fast Fours mag & who do not understand that this sort of nonsense (ie sprints) has been going on for years.
  5. Good on you. Yeah a good program would have helped enormously letting people know what went on & where to go etc. I bought a couple bottles before I saw the lines, thought fk this & went looking for the free stuff. I'm not a big fan of the coppers either. But I guess that they were there means they weren't out tazering some poor bastard.
  6. Everyone claims they would rather go to a normal race meeting. Yet no one goes to the normal race meetings...... Why didn't you drink the free water on offer? It is actually a requirement that venues offer water. Just a matter of finding it. It was in the race office by the way & other spots too. Would have cost someone a fortune as it was all out of 20 litre bottles. No point carping about food & drink prices. They are the same wherever you go.
  7. Because like it or not taxpayers dollars are spent on a huge range of sporting venues across the state. The new athletics track in Bunno for example - tax payers dollars. South West Academy of Sport - tax payers dollars. It goes on & on. Why should motorsport miss out? The bottom line is the kind of money needed for the upgrades on the cards is not a commercially viable proposition for the WASCC - or anyone else for that matter. So it is either government money or keep what you have got.
  8. Ah ok I missed it then. I did see the car parked up behind the pits but obviously didn't hear the PA announcement. I saw the BMW doing laps but again the PA is not always audible when you are walking aroung looking at stuff. Hence I didn't realise it was Geoff Brabham driving. Maybe next year they can get him back in his IMSA Nissan. I understand peoples frustrations. It was a golden opportunity to showcase motorsport in WA. All credit to those who thought it up & put it on. I guess the frustrations creep in when people want everything to be perfect. Access to Wanneroo has been a problem ever since I have been going there & doubtless before too. There were always huge queues before the touring car races - but it has got better over the years. I think that alot of people who went wouldn't have ordinarily attended anything like that hence whinged. In reality it was no worse than any decent sized festival. For what it is worth I barely got held up on the way in & there was no real problems leaving. There again I didn't try & front at 11:00am.
  9. Venue is not the issue. The biggest issues I had were two fold. 1. You could count on the fingers of one hand the number of competitors who actually drove hard, F1 car included. On the flip side a lot of them put in a big effort to get here for the two laps offered. 2. The "special guests" appeared to be ensconsed in the VIP area. Apparently Geoff Brabham was there as was Alan Jones. Is it too hard to get them out on track in something? Anyway I hope they get it up & running permanently. I just cant see how in the absense of an f1 car or similar it can be sustained, however. Too many people there just didn't get it. There was, for example, a T70 Lola as driven by Paul Hawkins. I reckon of the approximately three people who stopped and looked at it only one of them had any understanding of what it represented.
  10. Yes I understand that. My point is that the crowd controllers - in that case the police - were as much as anything the cause of the problem. Overwhelmingly people are sensible and dont need controlling to anywhere near the extent put about by police & others. As an example wait to you hear the pre game warnings from the coppers when it comes to the Ashes game at the WACA. You would think the place was a powderkeg waiting to go off. I don't need a cavity search to dissuade me from carrying on like a twat when the game gets a bit slow in the post lunch session... Anyway crowds don't cause problems. Heavy handed muppets working as security on the other hand, do.
  11. Lets see. One was a packed football stadium with standing room only & fenced barriers in front of the spectators. As the mobs rushed to get there in time for kick off the specators at the front were crushed against the fencing. How does that even vaguely relate to being stuck in traffic on the way to Wanneroo? Wanneroo can and has held far more than the crowd there on Sunday. 30,000+ used to turn up for the V8's. Without the traffic problems experienced on Sunday too I might add. Football - you are right I don't know which dodgy, busted arse countries will bribe their way to the "earn" the right to host future world cups. I just expect that television rights & timing basically preclude it ever being run here.
  12. Oh dear. Not sure where to start. What occured at Hillsborough, ie a soccer pitch in Sheffield, England twenty years ago is not even remotely like Wanneroo. The venue is set up to handle crowds much larger than the one there on Sunday. The V8's regularly exceeded the 20,000ish people who turned up. You should have tried getting in in the mid 90's before the fences went up around the circuit (ie inside the boundaries) Australia will never host the Soccer world cup. The venue is/was perfectly adequate for the event and for what it is worth the government is committed to tipping millions of dollars into it over the next few years.
  13. Because it is not just to display flashy read only things. It is because you can integrate it with a bunch of other stuff (eg GPS log) and thereby increase the functionality of the logging by orders of magnitude. Added to which whatever you may want to use is fully developed & readilly available. Hell half of it just uses your phone.
  14. There is a world of difference between the Power FC port & what is available & the mass of gear you can now buy to plug into a OBD 2. EG www.dashdaq.com or www.scantools.net
  15. Sorry for the noob question, but is there such a thing available?
  16. Ferrari will doubtless poach him to replace Massa.
  17. Harsh given that two posts ago you didn't even know what a Clubman was.
  18. You can road register clubbies. Most of them are already like that.
  19. So, to summarise: If you want quick, cheap NA (without the gheyness) then get a Westie or a clone there of. Any of the motors listed previous work. Hell I have even seen one with a CA18DET. Or a rotary. Or about 58,000 four cylinder combinations. They are light (hence cheap to run), rwd, competitive & fun. Just make sure you can fit & think long & hard about a IRS widebody version.
  20. Well Ricciardo is from WA. On that basis alone he is obviously massively talented. There is a lot on hype about him over this way. Deservedly so. Hoping they put him in a TR for next year & ditch one or other of the spankers in that team. Hence in 2011 they can get a proper driver line up at Red Bull, ie Webber & Ricciardo.

    Ferrari's

I would just like to point out that my Ferrari is an awesome limited edition. http://store.ferrari.com/en/accessories/el...ed-edition.html
  22. Maybe. But it is hard to shine in such a bucket of *^%#. Not least if you can't do any testing. I am not 100% convinced of teh Hulk. His drive at Imola was pretty ordinary, for example. There again look how Rosberg went this year. Much better than his form had suggested. Although his team mate made him look like a genious, so who knows. Williams looks to be slowly going the same way as Jordan. Lack of results = lack of sponsors = lack of results. Here is hoping they sell enough KERS systems to Porsche to fund the team off their own back.
  23. I thought the rumour was that Senna was off to Lotus. To go with the Renault motors & the new black & gold livery they are supposed to be running. So Senna in a black & gold Lotus Renault. Hmmm. Hulkenberg had a decent second half of the season. But Williams need cash as most of their sponsors are ending their contracts this year. They were after the Mexican bloke with all the Telecom money. Oh and the HRT was probably the worst of the new teams this year. Not that anyone really cared.
  24. I think you will find it is pretty common. Usually the more expensive the car is the less inclined the driver is to have a proper go. I just wish the pushie mindset of most Porker owners would extend to them pushing the car hard around the track rather than pushing in front of people only to wobble around.
  25. The intercooler is a heat exchanger. As is the radiator. The point is that the amount of heat the turbo puts into the compressed air (Which is a measure of its inefficiency) is alot less at lower throttle openings than at WOT. So there is less heat to be removed at low power levels rather than the inter cooling being less able to remove it. The point is that the amount of heat transferred to the pipe section per lb of air (or however you like to measure your air) is negligible. Hence it is not worth bothering insulating the pipe. Or in other words. No.
