Just quickly - big thanks to Joel for the slide-show he put on last night. I think everyone that was there will agree it was fantastic and the quality of his work is first rate. Thanks mate. -

Ant - Joel wasn't at Calder. The pics taken that day were done by Scott's (Chrisman) dad. Maybe give him a PM or something if you are interested. -
In fairness to the blag flag Robin got - when he change gears on the stright you couldn't see anything for about 20sec afterwards. I've never seen smoke from a car like it. Except for maybe pontiff's engine. Feel for you there mate. Otherwise - other than my little ABS issue the day was great. No-one hit a wall which I'm really happy about. A few people had some moments - Gareth in just about every corner for example - but thats ok. A few beginers only had a few runs but again thats ok. I think again it gave them some good experience and showed them a little about how much they can improve their driving. Jack was a great example of someone who has done heaps better on his second outting than the first time. Confidence is a great thing. Was also great to see Jeff Beable in the Targa 33. I love that purple paint job! Also Jeff - you mentioned an R34 but I didnt catch whether it was an N1 or not? I know you dont usually post on here but I'd love to know if it is and when we can see it! Aaron running consistant 1.50 flats the first time in the GTR was damn impressive as was a special mention to Blaise who stayed with us on the Friday night. Was his first time at PI and was the fastest WRX on the day (1.51) despite there being faster and more worked rexes there. Damn impressive. And frank broke the Club lap record with his 1.45.75 ( was 1.45.78 held by a porsche) Roy's 1.58 was expected and being beaten by Gareth was gold! LOL. But the first timers there - Wayne, Denham, Jack,Gareth, Anthony's, Westy, and Robin did a sterling job really and I hope you all enjoyed the track. And for those that missed out on passenger laps because of me - SORRY!

Joel - no problems. We will accomidate you after all the effort you have gone to for us. (Plus we don't have anything else major on tonight) I believe Joel also has a bunch of shots from Phillip Island - including an insight to what happens when your ABS fails! Finally - Ash would like to start preliminary MAS discussions tonight so all people interested in participating please try and be there to talk to him about it. -
Maybe you should lend him the WRX wheels now mate for a true comparison.
-
Yeah Joel wanted to meet you actually Greg. Also - we have the "other" WRX photographer - Andew Scott - now staying with us over the weekend.
-
Gareth - they actually just updated! LOL You are Number 67 - Group 1 http://www2.wrx.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16851
-
No Gareth - there's no update since the 8th but they don't have a full field so it will all be good. If you aren't 100% certain give them a call.
-
Look for this guy. Which reminds me - James can you please bring my hat. It's going to be a warm one and I'm sick of getting sunburnt!
-
Geoff - that is truely shattering news mate. I as much as anyone was looking forwards to seeing the project in action. You, Roy, Denham and Gareth made for some mighty interesting comparisons. My fingers are crossed for you mate that it's not complete re-build. Robin - if it's never been dyno'd / serviced since been in Oz chances are its just running a bit rich and is still tuned for the Japanese 100RON fuel. Maybe consider speaking to Denham about splitting the can of racing fuel with him? 10L in your tank (topped up with Ultimate) will certainly help if thats the case.
-
Robin - make the first target 2:00mins. Less that half the field will be under that time I garantee. And then lower the bar from there. Considering you haven't been on the track before you will be amazed and how much harder going from 2:00 to 1:55 will be. Especially when you first start out at the track you can do a lap and think "I don't think I can possibly go much faster than that". And yet the next time you go back you will go faster again. For interests sake - especially you first timers - check out the results of last year WRX event. http://www.wrx.com.au/motorsport/50.php Times go all the way down to 2:28s. Anything under 2:00 put you in the top 25. 1:55 made you top 10 and consist only of very serious cars. And you can be sure these people had track experience as well.
-
Yes I have a sleepless night ahead of me. Can't wait to get started!
-
Especially if your an S2000 driver! LOL But yes its a very tail happy spot that corner!
-
Guys - just to let you know to try and save increased costs or leaving me and Roy in the crap I've put a post up in the WRX forums about the accommodation and getting great responses already. So If you are wanting to stay and aint on these lists speak up before you find yourself sleeping in a car! Snowman + 1 Jarrod + 1 Chris + 1 Bec Scott + 1 Ant + 1 Roy Geoff West Adz + 1 Ash Blaise + 2 (Wrx club) Andrew + 2 (Wrx Club) Grant (Wrx Club)

Robin - of the 17 members there's 5 that know the track well and 2 that have done a few laps which leave 10 people in the same boat as you mate. And I was also once told that 80% of people never get above 7/10th's on this track so don't exepct the world the first visit. Our first day Chris and I were struggling to break the 2min barrier but now are below 1.50's. (well Chris isn't quite yet but he's weak sauce if he isn't after this weekend! LOL) Any 1st timers here that find after Saturday that they really enjoy this track (as you will!) my advice is to look at one of the PIARC weekends to help improve times. The saturday Practise session which are 20mins mean you get to do 8-10 laps per session rather than just 3 as per sprints. And then to back it up the following day on the Sunday in timed sprints is the best way to learn this track. All the other Vic tracks are pretty easy to pick up IMO but this one takes a while. Unfortunately this is the only WRX Club event at the Island this year so the only one in the club championship. But outside of those rounds a PIARC weekend is probably the only thing I'd like to look at doing this year as this is the best track in Vic if not Oz.

I always have CAMS forms and stuff on me. However - if he wants to compete he will need to register by midnight tonight. Also - he will have to be there a lot earlier than what this cruise will get there at. Competitors need to be there at 8am.

I was going to stick the pregnant women together but Im easy. I think what ever happens if we have 2 houses we should just pool the funds together and split it all anyways. I'm sure everyone that comes will agree it's not fair for those of us that did the organising to get shafted on this. Cause if we do you can be sure it will be the last time we do it which will be a shame. Costs won't be much different that what was originally posted and will still be a damn sight cheaper than motel rates. The good news is it looks like we needed the 3rd house anyways. Its seems the Saturday night could be quite busy with some of the day trippers wanting to stay over. The weather sure helps - I know where I'll be come Sunday in the 32deg heat. The beach thats 400m away from the house!
-
Robin - if you read this it's Midnight TONIGHT (I said Thursday) thats the cut-off. So if you send it in today it should all be sweet. PS - is it Robin Feburary? Looking at the list there was about 15 spots left. But great to see we got some late entries in! Brings us up to 17 club members which is a great effort. It's going to be a good weekend. Couldn't ask for better weather either.

Maserati Club Autumn Track Day - Sandown - 10 April
Snowman replied to Ronin 09's topic in Archived Events
And will Ben crack a 1.15s lap???? Only if he's not weak sauce (j/k!) With a Club Championship round the following week at Winton I will probably give this a miss - but will come down and watch however. -
For Aaron and Koah, Extinguisher Mounts in my car. First on the drivers side rear seat you can see the seat bolt I am talking about. However - we normally mount them on the passenger side as you can see. Unscrew the seat bolt and put it through the mount and bolt it back in (you will have to drill out the hole on the mount a little to fit the seat bolt through the hole). Then clip the extinguisher in and Bob's you uncle.

ferni - Bruce is infact not running. There was an entry form mistake. Maybe if Jack gets off his ass and sends his form in he will take his spot in our group. Jerermy Bevan - unless he has changed cars recently - will be driving a dark green stock looking 200SX (S14) that you will get upset by when he kicks your ass. Not a SAU member but I remember being beaten by him at Sandown last year when I first started out and thinking WTF??? As mentioned it LOOKS completely stock. Even has the stock (aka POX) S14 rims on it still. He used to run in the MSCA track events. If he's in the 200SX he was lapping the Island last year in the 1.53's. Ultimate track sleeper.
-
I will pick my car up at lunch time and post a picture for you.
-
No worries Wayne - Ive contacted Steve to let him know for you.
-
Hey ferni - depending on what tyres Jeff runs you may be competing against a Targa Spec R33 GTR N1. This is a car and driver that came 3rd in Targa Tas one year! But I somehow expect Jeff to run semi's so that will let you off the hook. Either way you now have at least 3 guys in your class because your mate pontiff's B4 is AWD. Also - Wayne who's the co-driver?
-
Ok - updated list is available. http://www.wrx.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?...p=222911#222911 West - you are on it. But I notice there is no Jack Blanas!!!! Anyways - there are 13 SAU members currently on the list plus a couple of extra skylines that we might have to convert during the day. Aaron its your job to get Frank to join the club! LOL. As for the meet up on Friday night. Chris was supposed to be looking after this as I have to get there early (before 5pm) to get the house keys. However - my suggestion will be to meet at the Bunnings Car Park - Cranbourne - located on the corner of the South Gipsland Hwy and Thompsons Road at 8pm (Melways Ref 129 H9). Its a fair way out of town but it will be an easy cruise together from there (about 1 hr from there to PI). If anyone that wants to cruise down on Friday night doesnt think they can make it to cranbourne by 8pm please say so now. Reminder again to those staying that you will need bed linen! West - most of us have mounted our extinguishers simply by using the rear seat-bolt mounted through the braket. The seat bolt is located such that if you were sitting in the back seat the extinguisher would be resting against your calf muscles.
