the only real way to get a reasonably true estimate of fuel consumption is to fill up your car at a level bowser until the pump first clicks off and note the odometer reading , you can also re-set your trip meter - then drive the car till about 3/4 to near empty go back to the same bowser fill again till first click-off and record how much fuel used - this shows up on your docket usually at most petrol stations - and note the new odometer reading (which should your trip meter reading should match - then do the math using a calculator none of this, "I drive 500k till light comes on nonsense" my experience with a R34 GT 5 spd man NA with 4.3 diff is a best of around 9.5l/100 mixed suburban and highway/freeway when there is easy flowing traffic and no long delays with speeds up to 90 kph or so and with only occasional big bursts of acceleration the normal result is 9.7/100k for about the same conditions - very sadly no better result with higher speed cruising even though mostly in top gear - say Sydney to Wollongong and back - this is probably because the 4.3 ratio means you are using higher revs than are really necessary when hi speed cruising (e.g. VY Commodore cruises at 110kph at under 2000 revs whereas a R34 (4.3 ratio) uses around 3000 revs - a really stupid diff ratio only good for acceleration and crawling at idle in very heavy traffic - maybe ideal for Tokyo lol) and there was no variation between when I had the OEM Nissan coils in or after I put in Splitfires - did I emphasise that enough????? lol again and more lol doing the usual things like new plugs good air filter etc will help economy so will having the air con off when not essential also you can regularly re-set your ECU (by disconnecting battery for at least 10 seconds) and this may help in certain cases and quality of fuel may effect mileage also (no e10 pls) 9.7 l/100k is about as good as it gets for a sporty 6 cylinder car from 1998 or so weighing about 1500kg if your only getting 13-15 l/100k average or worse then you should be concerned

Error Code 21 - Diagnosed Results.
cosmic starz replied to rnbguy's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
do not forget that Code 21 can be an intermittent fault - at start, later it becomes somewhat permanent as the coil(s) breakdown more - so you may get good readings during testing even though you may be following correct procedure if the coilpacks are oem Nissan and have done about 60k+ already you may as well just get new set of Splitfires and be done -
[quote .......................I have the r34 wiring diagrams but they need to be blown up to read, tiny as hell writing. thanks for your input mate, just confirms my suss cheers ______________________________________________________________________ yea - if you doing the major project that stuff will be redundant if you have wiring diagrams either post up or pm docs to me if you don't mind sharing - will to add to my info base - thanks

________________________________________________________ yea agree with you the whole story line is a hoot - gotta wonder if its all a set-up to promote a certain dealer and you could die laughing when they say the dealer becomes a friend for life ..................er ............... isn't the only objective of the dealers to relieve you of your money .....now thats got to be a really strong basis for a friendship - lol and more lol and have you seen the ads for a certain Sydney dealer network on tv where the guy says he bought 5 cars off them in the last 3 years and they have all been magic great guys to deal with great cars etc etc - wtf - ???????? is the dealer giving him a bit of manual relief or something that he has to come back on average every 7 months to get another car - lol - what a wank

________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________ As an owner of a R34 Coupe with the Xanavi sat nav /tv/cd pop-up screen I can tell you the middle larger boxy thing with the AV (red green black etc coloured ) cables going in and out is the unit that takes signals from the various antennas embedded in your rear screen and sends them on to the Xanavi HU in the dash - these then are processed futher into audio TV or Sat nav on your screen (in theory at least since you cannot get the sat nav or tv to work in Aust without a lot of effort). I haven't looked in the boot area for a long while so cannot remember what the other 2 boxy things are. Warning - You cannot remove the above unit without accessing and undoing a screw inside the car behind the rear seat - a lot of extra work - just undoing the screws that you can see in the boot is not enough. Wiring diagrams for these units ? Your dreaming - you finding one is improbable like winning the lottery - anything you do is more likely going to be trial and error. And you may want to consider that removing this unit and associated wiring may mean you lose the powered boost of signal to your radio (cassette ) unit so it will become rather redundant. Why do you want to remove the unit? - is the pop-up screen still working on the AUX settings and when CDs are playing ? see pic - some people feed AV in via the box in the boot to get TV and movies on the screen. My best suggestion is unless the extra bit of boot space is critical to you just leave the whole lot intact - you can still update to a modern new HU without removing that stuff.

What do I think? As the owner of an R34 Coupe with the genuine adjustable rear spoiler (factory fitted from new together with several other Nismo options) - and with the car stickered very discreetly from the factory to identify Nismo options are fitted, I am very much amused by cars copiously covered with extravagantly huge -look at me - supermarket bought "Nismo" stickers, and especially so if they are running very poor imitation copies of Nismo product - lol. Why don't you just call them "your style" wing struts? lol

Buying - Sorry If This Post Is Just Wrong :s
cosmic starz replied to jukic.j's topic in Wanted to Buy
lern to rite proper inglish pls lol -
good luck with finding what you are looking for - and you're right it is a learning curve

Why go to a mechanic first ? - there is a simpler self-help solution that may save you being ripped off or paying money for nothing - does your engine check light on dashboard flash when you have the problems? if YES - then the first thing you do is check what code is flashing - it takes about 2 minutes and all you need is a piece of wire 50mm long inserted into the correct place in the drop down plug below your dashboard - search this site for HOW TO CHECK ENGINE WARNING CODES - I don't have the patience to explain everything for you and its something you need to learn to do! The flashing code will tell you where the problem is - google and d/l the R34 Engine Service Manual (14 mb size) for extra info E.g. Code 21 is coils problem. Don't waste time on coils unless you definitely get Code 21 appearing. Could be other issues - they are all listed by code in the Manual. Get to it - its easy to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Buying - Sorry If This Post Is Just Wrong :s
cosmic starz replied to jukic.j's topic in Wanted to Buy
so your promising a finders fee of 'thousands of dollars" which we can presume means up to $2000 to anyone in Australia who can locate a Skyline that should be from $10-15k - thats like a 20% commission on $10k - lol - yea I wanna hear from the first person who you pay the fee to lol ever heard of the trading post or internet car sales sites - lol -
I wish I had even a 1/4 of the technical expertise you guys got so unless its dead simple even google won't be much use lol - I just installed a replacement Xanavi HU that worked that I got on weekend for $50 with other gear for a problematic one - no special expertise needed for that, just common-sense ___________________________________________________

With all due respect I would refer you to the first sentence in my first post - a foreseeable outcome as overmuch ardour is usually unsustainable. Next time lets have the gushing commentary and mass pics after the event pls And who in Sydney would bother or need to buy from Melbourne (unless its a rare model car) - there are shitloads of good cars for sale in NSW
-
while were talking about NA R34 diffs does anyone know if there is a 3.o or 3.25 ratio centre available from any model Nissan (oem) or after market to fit? as the std 4.3 ratio does not really provide low revs hi speed cruising for those persons who do lots of Ks in freeway conditions in top gear

Eoi: 98 Red 34-gt Skyline
cosmic starz replied to Aggroman's topic in For Sale (Private Whole cars only)
nice car alright - I already got one so not a buyer - seems that lately a lot of lookers (tyre kickers and dreamers) expect to get a top car for under $15k - probably end up buying a high Km second grade based on price and then congratulate themselves for smart decision lol! better to buy at fair price and get quality imo gl with the sale -
see I was right, a robust debate is a healthy thing - in the end we are all right on at least some issues and on some points maybe can get a new or improved insight by listening to others if not necessarily always agreeing with them anyways enough from me for now on this dry topic of the economy - time for a good strong coffee have fun guys and ciao T

________________________________________________________________________________ ___________________ its good to get a debate going as having just one sided viewpoints is unhelpful - and my comments were actually meant to be entirely bi-partisan as evidenced by my saying that no one person (i.e. Rudd or Turnbull or whoever) or any one political party has the answer be honest now are you aligned to a party or system - a Liberal Party member perhaps Iam amused how much your own arguments are mutually exclusive - you criticise the economic stimulus pkg as a huge cost but advocate tax concessions for business - these are a huge cost too, and in a time of falling goverment revenues may trigger a huge budget deficit by themselves you can't have it both ways if as you say this meltdown is a total surprise then you have yourself explained why Kevin Rudd made no mention of it in 07 (and neither did John Howard) so using your own logic its fair for the current Government to now move away from its election platform as the circumstances have changed after the election and it should now face the changed circumstances - so why criticise the Government for doing just that are now you getting to see how illogical your assertions are.... but theres more the junk bonds are not "complex financial instruments" - they are worthless JUNK traded for GOOD HARD CASH - a huge swindle and fraud on both individuals and the business sector alike you try and do the same and you go to jail - Wall Street gets Government money bail-out and gives out employee bonuses - where is the justice? your talk about "complexity" - lol - the only complexity was in how the JUNK was disguised as sound finacial instruments do you want more................ do you know why the BANKS in Australia are solid compared to o/s banks ? Even I hate to say it but Paul Keating in the 1980s as Prime Minister reformed the banking sector and made it the strongest and best regulated in the world - hell a socialist doing something right - unspeakable is'nt it most would agree that there was a change in Government in Australia because the Coalition's promises to prevent interest rate rises was broken by the then government - you seem to be a Coalition supporter rather than bi-partisan so my question to you is how do you criticise one government but praise another government for breaking a promise when both have done do the same thing ? and no the Reserve Bank did not do what you claim - it deregulated bank ATM charges it DID NOT INTRODUCE THEM - the presumption being the banks would compete for business and reduce existing charges - so how do you blame the Reserve Bank for trying to get more competition in that sector? and I am perfectly correct in saying that the biggest current danger to business growth and stability is the reluctance of the banks to acutally LEND MONEY TO BUSINESS - this is the central issue that all Governments around the world are facing UK USA China Japan everywhere - this is what all governments' stimlus packages are trying to address and who cares what some business group in Tasmania may or may not have said - that State cannot exist if it does not get massive Federal Government taxpayers subsidy in a variety of forms - they only exist thru 'socialist' handouts that the rest of us taxpayers have to pay for, and they want more subsidy - they gotta be kidding we could wite a book about this "economic meltdown' but we better not - anyway every one to their own thoughts but keep it apolitical please - debate is good!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and in conclusion let me say this : I am still waiting for that fount of all knowlege, that self described budgetary guru and finacial wizz person, that almost Prime Minister, our former Treasurer Peter Costello to expound on how and what he would be doing right now to get Australia out of this mess ...............but you know I don't think he is going to say anything soon as I think he is really as clueless as everyone else - and this guy was touted as a Leader. Maybe you can get Peter to say a few words ..................maybe you might even ask Johnnie Howard to explain it all.......... Cheers

if you are asking about how to get the Xanavi and screen out of the R34 dash and back in I did it yesterday - taking the lot out is about 5-10 min work if you have done it before - installation is a bit longer - here are some random pics I took of the process - there is a good HOW TO on the SAU site - the number of connectors looks like a nightmare but every one only fits in its proper shaped place so it is not hard and Nissan gives you enough wiring to reach everything easily (compared to bloody Holdens etc where the dash wires hardly reach) - use cardboard to protect you trim from scratches from the mounting frame when you pull it out as a whole - it has sharp edges if you work out how to connect the existing screen to a modern DVD player (bypassing the Xanavi HU) I would be very interested to know how to do this also !

how soon everyone seems to forget that it was the Coalition Howard Government that was in power for 12 years during which this total f...k up of the economy slowly developed and became a crisis, and what did they do to warn about or to prevent this global meltdown and its impact on Australia - did they speak up about it ? did they even tell you it was on the way -NO- they did NOTHING - as long as the money was turning over and a good proportion of the population was maxxing out on credit cards building debt that was beyond their capacity to repay and inflating values beyond anything resembling real worth no-one said anything much and for all the loonies saying business tax breaks are the answer - at least put your thinking hats on before speaking - the indisputable facts are - firstly its businesses having no trust in other businesses that is the main problem at the moment (banks no longer lending to keep businesses operating and preferring to make billions by slugging ATM users with new charges rather than lending money to businesses and earning profits that way) - no Government can force banks to lend money to businesses - that is one reason why the Government is putting extra cash into the economy in the hope banks start going back to lending to businesses consequential to the infusion of massive extra funds into the economy - its a gamble of course but what else can be done? secondly tax breaks for business provide no guarantees of improving the economy or aiding job retention or growth, and unless you are blind stupid or have been living in a dark tunnel for the past 6 months you should know that even the key business advocacy organisations like the Chambers of Commerce and Industry etc in Australia (every single one of them) who usually back Coalition type policies have put their full support behind the current Government's economic stimulus policy - and they are on record as saying that business tax cuts are not the answer Or maybe you think the CAI etc are commies posing as capitalists. lol - time to get real boys and girls - this is just another cyclical phase we will all have to go thru - it happens every now and again but this time its just that little bit worse anyone who thinks any one political party or leader has a magic bullet should take some strong medication asap

d/l the Nissan R33 Engine Service Manual off the internet - google it - and you will have all the info you will ever need

its the usual protocol to only post multitudinous pics showing off a car after you actually buy everything can look good in fotos - I remember a black 65 Mustang 4 spd coupe, looked shit hot in all the pics but was a total rustbucket when seen at one meter in person, and even a sadder case when started and driven on road you should wait for the inspection reports.................and even treat them cautiously - thats the first bit of advice

Noisy Steering When Car Cold?

________________________________________________________________________________ it seems not a day goes by without you posting some obtuse problem with your car - maybe time for a trade-up or enrol for mechanic school? maybe we are becoming indifferent to your suffering (gee where did I see those words before ?) lol yes ! take it to Bearepaires or whoever in case there is a problem that may endanger the public when your out and about -
_____-_______________-________________ Who's the anonymous interloper from Gatton and what has he/she to do with this thread? (Rhetoric question - actually needs no reply) These multi convo posts never work out.....................................

___________________------____________________ fully understand the commercial in confidence and protection of intellectual property thingy - so (does this really have to be as hard as pulling teeth out ?) the next question is can you supply a d.i.y kit so a R34 owner wherever they are in Aust or the world can pull out the Xanavi hu and discard it and install/just plug in your kit (maybe together with some specific new h.u. or incar pc recommended or sold by you) into the existing car wiring loom (and using the in situ connectors for the screen) - you do not have to reveal the techie details - and get some functionality back (i.e. at least the capacity to play dvd/audio, and maybe tv and or sat nav a higher cost option)? yes/no? - or what can you do? est total cost/time to deliver ?
