The law says he can drive it while going to and from anything related to the exmeption. Its not open slather to drive the car anywhere anytime. Being that it was Australia day and all... i'm not sure he'd have had anything work related to go to.
Point out to me one person (from QLD if you can) who has an exemption to drive a performence turbo car of any brand (or non turbo) as a daily drive.
In Queensland, of the 100000or so people who have got their licence under the new power restrictions, the number of expemtions given is under 1000. The vast majority of those would probably be for mechanics, and they'd only be able to drive the restricted vehicles during work hours doing work related activities.
Its not about "oh some rich person has money and bought an expensive car, i wish i could have had one when i was 19".
Fact is when i was 18 I could have affored a restricted car, but because i couldn't drive one due ot the laws i, you know, just sucked it up and went and bought a non restricted car.
Same should probably have applied here. I cannot think of a single reason why he couldn't have got the non turbo/v8 3 series bmw..
