  1. if your laws are similar to vic, then they have every right to do so check your road act or similar, for an item saying "a police officer may inspect any vehicle at any time to ensure its compliance with roadworthiness". there will be something there, basically they need to lift the bonnet to check if the car is roadworthy. If the car isnt registered and there is no possibility of it being used on a public highway, THEN they don't have the right, but till then.
  2. take it to an auto electrics place, pay them about 120 dollars, and they'll rebuild yours
  3. only na cars that need it, are one's that a prone to cracking heads, as the circulation can prevent hot-spotting, this doesn't apply to skylines
  4. AWESOME!!!! exactly the sort of figures i was looking for going to look at one on sunday
  5. does anyone have the weight figures for a c210/c211? how much "removeable" weight do they have? (electrics etc)? don't suppose a rough guess at weigh without motor. looking for a project car that i hope to use in improved production, but im going to be pushing shit up hill if they are just too heavy to start with
  6. yep Beer Baron, thats the plan, do club events for awhile to get some experience up and learn how to steer before getting to serious with a C3 and "competitive" racing
  7. thanks for the reply, thats awesome thats what i wanted to hear, woot!!
  8. basically as per topic, as part of a slow learning process im building up a track car, nothing special. now as part of the learning to drive bit im aiming to compete at club level for abit or so, before i go for a L3 (im assuming ill need some real track time to get it). the car im building will be for improved production, and i won't need rego then. but while im competing at club level, will the car need to be registered? any thoughts/knowledge/advice appreciated
  9. the big question is, was the bottom end built for a rb31DET, or an ET. if it was built for the latter the compression ratio will be too low
  10. 32 has multi-link vs mcpherson strut in a 31, its not gonna happen if u want 5 stud at the front, get gts/import struts/rotors/hubs (not cheap), and redrill for 5 stud. or use z31 87-89 TT struts which are 5 stud, and fit with a different steering knuckle and top hat. look on the r31 site for some more info www.r31skylineclub.com at the rear u need to fill and redrill, or use cut down ea/b axles its not a cheap exercise
  11. with red light cameras they don't activate unless u ENTER the intersection when its red if it changes to red AFTER you have crossed the stop line (at the start of the intersection), then you've run a red and will pay. there will be 2 photos, one showing you entering the intersection when the lights when red, and one slightly later showing you cross the intersection. unless you enter the intersection before it changes red, or didn't cross the intersection (say u crept forward too far waiting), then you can't get off on the photo. the other defense is "self preservation", if you plead this in court, the prosection case changes to having to prove that you had time to stop safely (if someone was following you wayy to close and follows you through the red, then you can use this to get off)
  12. the police can inspect any car at any time that is on the road, or they believe will be used on the road to ensure it is roadworthy. thats more than enough reason to pop the bonnet to look for illegal mods (which would make the car unroadworthy)
  13. the only problem u have is when u leave the jumper leads connected after u start the car for a long time.
  14. not at all sorry my post wasn't very clear i was just trying to clear up that the number plates is an exception. just because the other stuff (like side indicators) comes from the factory a certain way, doesn't mean that it complies with the adr's and is legal. thats all
  15. just to clear this up 100% This ONLY applys to number plates and visibility angles (i know thats all you mentioned, but i just thought id clear it up) as for the other stuff, if it doesnt meet the adr's, then they have every right to ask you to change it, regardless of whether every car came from the factory like that. just because its "stock" doesn't mean its legal. Thats what you get when you buy a car that wasn't built to comply with our adr's, and you had a dodgy compliance shop comply it.
  16. yes, i wouldnt use one get a real heavy duty clutch, they aren't a heavy duty clutch, they will die in 6 months daiken/exedy is the way to go
  17. I have personally recieved an email from the NSW RTA, stating that there is an agreement between the states, that if a car is registered in one state, then the applicable rego standards from that state apply to it. Write a letter to the NSW RTA, asking if you have something on your car that is legal in QLD and you are on holiday in NSW what the procedure/law is. (don't mention the specific incident), then when you get your reply stating that the QLD rego standards are applicable, send a copy of this back to them stating you will not be paying the fine.
  18. timmy's car wasnt a gts, and he only had extractors/exhuast/intake

  20. Oh... Kaaayy... So only the aftermarket coolers are viewed as 'intake mods'.. Hope your right! look at the second word you said, mods means MODIFICATIONS. clearly if its a OEM (original equipment manufactor) supplied part, then its not a modification is it?
  21. i had this done to my diff, using the cortina gears. it didnt whine initally, however it now does
  22. you would have the BOV mounted in the intercooler piping BEFORE the afm, and then you would plumb the outlet back into the turbo inlet pipe.
  23. an rb20de (or rb20e) will go as fast as any 2L cylinder in a relativly heavy car. not very fast at all. to make it go faster without turbo and that power figure a v8 like a vh45 or similar would be your only option. (or nos )
  24. sorry after a turbo, should of been more specific and plans have possibly changed, thanks to everyone that pm'd me, ill get back to u in the next week or so.
