When your 25 starts a knockin.......
GTRgeoff replied to GTRgeoff's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Got the arias pistons, $1300 40 thou OS (1mm) with rings and pins. Stayed with 9:1. Clevites are proving a problem as they can get RB30 mains but don't know about BE's Checked out nissan and they have in stock belts, cam belt, and can get parts at a reasonable price but a bit slow. 3-6 weeks. Got some nice corporate goodies, like the hats I grabbed below as well as other Nissan and GTR gear. -
APEXi PFC = Bye bye Air flow meter?
GTRgeoff replied to Guilt-Toy's topic in General Automotive Discussion
usually off load boost generation is done by cutting spark to individual cylinders in a non repetitive fashion, so the unburnt fuel ignites in the exhaust manifold and runs up the turbo rpm. Is a feature on some rally cars. Sometimes they just put an injector into the manifold and you get flames :flamed: -
I have one almost finished. It will be on CD in PDF for a small fee. $25 delivered. PM if interested.

Can't say I'll ever buy another new car, but on your way to your first mill you make a few mistakes. Too much loss of equity when you drive them off the lot and then the heartbreak of that first scratch or ding, but this M3 convertible for $70 K is nice for a 99 model, just an option http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/marketplace...o=1&chkRows=500 M3's are a nice car, swapped one for a day with a mate and he didn't want to give my keys back, but my handling is improved over the stocker for dry track work. Sux in the wet tho. A friend with an engineering consultancy bought an RX8. Thought they had the rotary probs sorted and he is a rotary buff. Just got rid of a series 2 with 13Bt. His wife went out to start the car and it wouldn't catch. Called Mazda and they wanted to send the flatbed but she peaked and got a coupla techs sent out. After a couple of hours and flat battery the older guy thought, "well it is a rotary" so in with new plugs and Bingo. Fouled plugs. Unfortunately it got written off in the floods in his driveway and he is looking for a bit more go again, like a series 7.

I know what you're saying, but at that price, if you want class, you don't buy mazda. The rotary thing is just novelty and they overdo it a bit. Thought of convertibles? Maybe a Bimmer or a second hand CLK http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/marketplace...o=1&chkRows=500 http://carpoint.ninemsn.com.au/marketplace...o=2&chkRows=500 then you got some class cred

I read the lead and thought...'yep just a misspelling and he's looking at an XR8....yuck' then I thought 'maybe meant an XR6 turbo, lotta potential having seen the power output on the APS upgrade, 320rwkw for about 9 grand' but really???? An RX8....pfffft!!! When people start concentrating on great handling that just means its engine stinks. Then I read this and having had a bit to do with rotaries, yeah you can do it, with a PP and idling at 2500-3500 rpm. :Bang: :flamed: :Bang: :flamed:

If the Sprint falls through due to unforseen circumstance the SAU drinks sounds good. I'll keep it in mind.

James, sorry for the attempted hijack. Just had to make a choice and the Buller Sprint gets it, regardless how much I would love to come along. The social director has passed judgement. So who's going to be singing....."We're going through Bonnie Doon......" ?

Unbelievable car story (long) (names changed)
GTRgeoff replied to Dominic's topic in New South Wales
Who cares if it was only a Toranasaurus... they shoulda capped the pricks anyway after getting the car back!!! -
James taking the mafia staff car? Or something less conspicuous? The following weekend is the Porsche Mt Buller Hillclimb http://www.mtbullersprint.com/ and I'm probably going with a mate in his 350 for the 2 days. Might be worth holding off until then.

modding type M bumper for FMIC
GTRgeoff replied to pooski's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
OK some lo res pics. the inlet and exit are in line with the side vents which need to be trimmed. I use a tyrannosaw with the bosch hacksaw blade. The plate was from Bunnings and is an 8 hole thing I cut in 2 and drilled out the countersunk holes for the 8mmx1.25x30mm bolts. In the bumper I used dome head screws with nuts and washers to fit under the lights. The inlet and outlet are 3" so i will join on 90 deg bends and then reduce to 63mm and I want to use electrical conduit (63mm) to see if it handles the heat. Nice and orange and will polish nicely and wont transfer heat into the air and costs $26 /4m. -
modding type M bumper for FMIC
GTRgeoff replied to pooski's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Just been mounting uo a Hybrid Monster FMIC bar and plate. Ebay for $710 delivered with insurance and it is a very nice cooler and will flow up to 800hp with 3" pipes. Continuous auction by the looks as it was posted again as soon as it had finished. No pics yet but I had to cut away behind the bumper into the plastic and some of the steel support, about 15mm and the fit is very close but nice. I have it level with the bottom of the bar (stock series 1) and use two stainless drilled plates at the top off the mounting holes where the plastic is mounted to the steel support. I'll be back wit lo res pics shortly. -

Son-na, Ahona! my mistake, not the new one, the 100. They are looking pretty good though and would have been a better choice in aus than Camry or Avalon. Enough thread hijack. Back to Skylines!! -

When your 25 starts a knockin.......
GTRgeoff replied to GTRgeoff's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
That's sensational, confirming a lot of things I suspected and then some. The oil flow issue is an eye opener, and yes, very familiar, but I think exacerbated by what I believe were std rings in a 0.5mmOS rebuild...oh the blowby, to the tune of 300ml of oil per 15min track session. So beyond what i currently have there is a bit going on, most of which I can gradually fit up externally but the engine bits are essential now and I am grateful for your detailed description. This is gold. I did hear a grumble about gapless rings on a wet sump...thoughts? Obviously OK with the winged gated sump but where do you find the inserts/specs/sump? Engine management will be a bit to convince the accounts manager so I better get her good and drunk tonight and get agreement The gasket kit is clever. I used an RB30 head gasket and kept the oil flow to the cam section of the old one when I rebuilt this engine and couldn't get a new gasket. Got 10-15K out of it before the ring reinforcings pushed into the water jacket and started overheating, but it was a reasonable temp fix as I had to leave canberra quickly...there was this girl see, and her dad had a shotgun.... just kidding  I've been running a piece of aluminised foam as a heat shield that i got from Clark Rubber. Easy to fit, pushes up against the bonnet when shut and collects the cooler air that comes in around the headlight. New intercooler (tight squeeze and recommend a tyrannosaw to slash plastic and steel) will allow fitting of a proper cold air intake. Already have the brace and found it to be a huge improvement and the other suspension mods were already considered but now a definite. Clevite's I can get from Rocket, but who does the JE's and Total Seal? I owe you beers!!! Have a Great New Year, I know I will -

T your right on those accounts, nice cars, but there is soooo much potential as the HKS article highlighted. I wouldnt knock back a 350z if I was given one, or even got it cheap, but the driving is blah due to the breathless feel of the top end and "too short" go-kart handling that doesn't lend itself to hi-po control. I think the reports show the V35 to be a superior car to the Z overall, I just despise Nissan for not bringing out the V35 and pretending the Z is a top of the line stonk mobile. Pricewise a Z is 60K and an RX8 70K and I'm not a fan of the RX8. There is no push in the back.... ever, no matter how good it handles. No idea what a V35 350GT might go for but not far off a Z due to inherent similarities. Styling is such a critical thing but look at all new cars around that class and there is a fair amount of commonality, and ignore our cars as these are trying for that distinctly euro feel. Note the new Mk II and Chaser from Toyota in their styling, for the period released they were looking decidedly BMWish. If a GTR came out with the standard differences of tougher styling, pumped guards, more power TT and 4wd but still very much a V35 we would probably warm to it after a while, then get passionate about it once used to it, but how many would be in a position to own??? I still can't afford an R33 GTR yet, and choose to stick to R33 GTSt for the driving style, but you get what I mean. I drove my mates 180 with RB20 and....yeah OK, but I wouldn't own one....it's just not me. Don't like the styling but still a good machine that keeps others happy. I even drove the arse off an S2000 2 days ago, flogging that 9000rpm redline and getting the hot blonde I was doing the negotiating for squealing in excitement. We drove past some cute teenie girlies and she got stared daggers, which is a nice feeling but I think that other than that engine, it's puss and the handlings flawed and the clutch won't hold a fast change from first to second at full noise. Horses for courses, I 'spose. Iv'e shown my lack of good taste and just prefer performance to looks, at the expense of performance. -

OK Rezz Ive improved the res (heheh) but it's best saved and viewed @ 75-80% After looking throught the article again I can only say "Get the 350GT and get to HKS for TT mod and .....go you good thing.... I want one, screw the 350Z for a half car joke. Already driven one and they bite the bag. Needs longer wheelbase. Oh thats right ...V35 Skyline!!!!! -
