boost leak = also good possibility. 5000 rpm would be seeing very strong boost, and prolonged boost. Could be the time when the boost leak is most noticed.

Sounds like it just didn't have the grunt to get up the hill. Were you driving hard before the hill? Stock intercool may have got some heat soak; reducing power.

Did the engine note change, like go quieter, or did it still sound like it was giving it's all?

I think you can get a turbo "rebuilt" for about $350. New seals, tidy up etc.

It involves taking it to the turbo shop, putting on counter, intructing them to rebuild your turbo, and coming back two days later!! That's my idea of car mods.

Id get the full CES Racing exhaust from the turbo back and bask inteh 30 odd RwkW you gain. Then try going up that hill!!

they are completly different. solid lifters and different durations etc on the R34

Cam also need better airflow to work properly. Mine made no differnce in peak power, but average power was down. (Stock Turbo) but when I would in a touch more boost, look the fark out, because it took of like a rocket. Just gotta get my higflow now!

Chances are that if it looks dodgy, it probably is. I assume the price is pretty damn goo too? Walk away and report it to the police.

I think the formula for highflowing the RB2XDET turbos is pretty similar. They probably all use the same bearing cartidge, exhaust and compressor wheels, just depends on the machining of the housings I guess.

Quincy Tell us who, and we'll tell you how good. What you'll find is that a lot of places will actually send your turbos to places like GCG because they have the expensive balancing equipment and all that. GCG give SAU members a discount, and they are proven to supply exactly what they promise. I think the going rate is about $1750 for the GCG isn't it? Ask to see dyno charts from the company or to talk to people who have the high flows from them. BASS OUT
