  1. No worries mate, yeah I bookmarked that one asap, knowing full well I'd lose it otherwise
  2. Mad had it right before with the couple of thousand horsepower dragster engine. There's probably not a huge amount you can do aero wise, maybe a cleaver bonnet and front bar to more efficiently direct air around the windscreen. But it will mostly come down to power. What's amazing is that the veyron can do it with ONLY 1000hp, at the fly too!! So for a skyline, not built aerodynamically for such ridiculous feats, you'd be looking at what, 2000hp at the wheels (maybe even more). With enough power you can do whatever speed you like. So maybe an rb26 revving to 20k rpm or more etc, with custom made turbos etc... It's not that it can't be done, it's more why on earth you'd waste so much money trying. The numbers above are mainly just to emphasise how difficult the task is to achieve. Next someone will ask how hard it'll be to get to 450, then 500 km/h. The answer is exponentially harder and more expensive.
  3. That sucks mate. I had an r34 gtt and the windows were very clear too.
  4. Good on the OP for jumping on here and asking. You're son is lucky that his dad is putting so much effort into looking out for him. The first thing I though of when looking at that car was it has no anti-lock brakes and no airbags. Both of which you can get on a car for 4-5k. I was looking for a car for my gf to do her l's on (she won't take the p's test!), and ended up getting a magna. Decent car, excellent torque, quick enough, cheap enough on fuel with a tune and the manuals are very reliable. But my main priority was safety. That car is also rwd, possibly with a viscous lsd and no traction control, which means it's gonna try to spin on him. Add an auto gearbox into that and he may unluckily give it too much throttle going round a corner, drop down a gear and spin. Actually chances are he's going to spin at some point in time. He's just hoping that it's not into the oncoming lane. It's a very different car to what he's driven and it only takes one overestimation and a split second decision to make a mistake. Most people on here will testify that these are not cheap cars to run. You have to regularly change the oil and filter, petrol will cost a fortune, and when things go wrong they're not the easiest cars to fix for your average mechanic. You'd be well advised to only go to a mechanic familiar with skylines, there are plenty of horror stories from people using the mechanic "down the road". Also only going third party insurance may be a mistake, though I'm guessing he wouldn't be able to afford comprehensive. Going third party means if he does crash it, he's thrown a lot of money away, and if someone hits him, he's got to chase it up, and it can play out in court over many months. Skylines are largely police targets. He probably will be pulled over, and if he's unlucky, regardless of how he drives he'll be treated like a hoon. Is it too much of a risk for him to drive a car thoroughly labelled a hoon car if trouble now could effect him later? (I genuinely don't know, but it's something worth considering). Sorry for all the negatives, skylines are fun cars but like all cars they have their place. He seems to be taking a lot of risks just to drive a 20 year old auto skyline. Also, I agree with the above, he should really be looking at learning manual asap. Think of how much more time he'll have with it once he gets into the police force. Better learning early, even if it's a god awful pain to learn (I've been teaching my p-plate brother in his new car, he's a good driver, skill-wise, but initially found it a lot to think about. He had one 2 hour lesson then drove to work in peak hour the next morning, he was pretty uncomfortable haha)
  5. Also as mentioned above adding an electronic boost controller will give a slightly quicker ramp up as the wastegate actuator won't be moving as the pressure rises. Not sure if it makes a noticeable the difference though? The rb25 dyno thread would be well worth a peruse for you, it's got lots of different combinations of mods and peoples dyno results.
  6. Here's an easier way to reset the ecu, also a way of reading fault codes http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/266512-reading-nissan-fault-codes-ecu-fault-codes-how-read-them/
  7. ^Ask birds for some?
  8. Good points mlr, one thing I should add is that don't go looking at cars without knowing what mods you'd be happy with. It's too easy to just look what mods are out there but if you're new to cars you might en up buying a car with 5-10 grand worth of mods that barely runs and gets defected on the drive home.
  9. The vast majority of people who get a loan or get finance seem to regret it, because you're paying for maintenance and repairs as well as sill paying the car off. Myself included in that, don't have the car, do have the debt. Not exactly a happy ending.
  10. That's what alonso thought of hamilton back in '07, we'll just have to hope by then ricciardo can bring it to vettel. If he's aggressive, and he's a young aussie male so he probably is, he might be enough to push vettel out of his comfort zone.
  11. Welcome mate. I know there are some good dealers out there but I've had a few rough experiences. Try to stick to recommended ones on these forums. Buying from members on these forums is probably ideal, or have a look at carsales. If you're unsure on a car get one of the specialised performance mechanics in sydney, one familiar with skylines, to have a look over it for you. Most mechanics will say they can do it, but not all are familiar with skylines. Also the NRMA inspections are probably pretty good for common cars but was useless when I bought my r34...
  12. Whoops, just saw the date of this, I'm guessing it's probably gone!!
  13. Hey mate, is this still available?
  14. Hi mate, does the car have abs and/or airbags?
  15. ^^^bahahahahahahahahahaha i'd go and see that just to see the reactions!
  16. ^and an f1 driver
  17. Interesting, good to see an official explanation on it. Surprised it wasn't kers related
  18. Maybe apple will buy the american government lol. Politically the world is going to change a lot over the next 50 years, possinly more than the last 50?
  19. The amount of knowledge on sau is intense. Good on ya GTR sean! Cheers for the info
  20. I ordered mine over a year ago for the r34 (now sold)
  21. Mighty car mods say it's illegal, not sure that counts though
  22. The cracks can be hairline, so they can be hard to see. Yellow jackets are cheaper, as good as splitfires and have a 2 year warranty.
  23. Given that the 6 heat range is for fairly stock, an you've got a good bit more power, 7's are probably the way to go. Also the taping and silicon-ing only work sometimes, if it's a case issue not a coil issue (mine was the latter).
