Fitting a short shifter. (R33 GTR) - lots of pictures.
J'son replied to PranK's topic in Tutorials / DIY / FAQ
Apparently not.... Can anything be done about the installation of a short shifter in an r33 as all the images no longer work.. I tried to follow this with out, and did pretty well, i even pre-emptively sorted the issue with the little boot on the end being too small in many of the kits. However i have another issue, that i need to work out the answer to. I believe the metal tubing, used as on extension in the base, is either too long (most likely), or the bolts to hold the cover with the bananna shaped arms are too short... The easiest fix is to get longer bolts, but i dont think this will fix the issue in that the was the spring gasket works would not function any more cos it would just be squished flat all the time.. so that makes me think it is the metal tube that is too long. However if i was to make it shorter, and that didnt work, i've fooked up the whole kit and am in more troubles... I spent a couple of hours trying to find solutions to this, but cant seem to think of a good safe one. Seeing how the pictures show things, and their relative heights may help me be sure where the problem lies... In reality, i wish i could just have a stock leave that is shorter, as in made not as long like in a truck, and thus by being shorter, the throw is changed, but cos of the design, you cant just cut these and put a new thread on, they need to have been made correctly. Please get back to me with thoughts, advise and any pictures if possible! -
haha, cool cool. Sadly now interests so far though..

Glad to hear that all got sorted and that the lying biatche got caught out. All the best!

Haha, yeah. Timo just mentioned them to me and cos i wasn't interested told him i could pass it on here, if i knew you were already trying to sell em on here yourself, I'd have left it for you to do lol.

Update: He only wants $500. The pair have decent tread, the other unmatched ones have less. Pics will come soon.

A mate of mine has the following for sale, so passing the info on. The rims were previously on a black r33 similar to mine. For sale: starcorp/zenetti kaotics. 18x8" 5x114.3 studpattern (falcon magna nissan, pretty much everything 5 stud except commos, bmws, subarus). Little bit of gutter rash (there when he got them). Pm if want some exact pics, i've still gotta chase him up on them. I think he wanted something around $600 for them - Will confirm. 2 matched tires and 2 odd tires on them at present, and the exact amount of tread i'm not sure of. But will follow that up and update.

I really would like to find a proper shorter shifting leaver... It becomes a short shifter in that the length is shorter... I dont want to do a hack cut job... and installing a short shifter stick will reduce the throw, but not the length of the damn leaver....

I had near the same accident once... I was going straight from gungalin towards belco, a car pulled out from the left on the highway and hits the side of my car. Their insurance covered all the work on my car. However I had comprehensive and the insurance company followed it all up for me. You may need legal representation....

This thread is a bit old now, but rather than starting a new one, can i get some new thoughts and comments. My thermo fan is on its way out... the clutch is beginning to make baring noises etc, i need to replace it asap. I also want to replace the fan itself as it has quite a few cracks in the base of it where it attaches. My questions are, where can i get a replacement, i want one the same size so can keep using the shrouding etc. And what sort of price may i be looking at. ALSO, anyone who has had to replace theirs or done a huge rebuild, how easy is it to change/remove, is it just the 4 main screws that i can see? Is it worth getting a second hand one, or should I just go new. If i was to import one, where would I contact. What about the option of replacing it with a similar sized electric fan? Thoughts, comments, advice and info appreciated asap! THANKS! PS. I also need to replace my AC compressor... So i need to get a hold of one of those too.

I think you need one of the proper roof hanging lights still, they look classy and are nice.. So the long box with 2 fluro tubes. Downlights are too direct and will not give you a smooth light coverage. Your roof may be low but no one will be walking under the light where the table is, and when you shoot you are leaning over the table, so even if the light takes up 30-50cm from the roof, you have 1.5m clearance from the floor and still enough height to play. If the traditional box is just gonna be coo much of a space hog, at least go for lights that diffuse well and spread an even light over the table, and i recommend the three down the middle personally.

BUMP?

Can any one tell me what side of the car the power leads from the battery run to the engine in an r33? I have bad alternator wine through my stereo, so wanna keep the rcas as far from that as possible.. if not done so already. Ta!

Sorry, last relevant Q, doesn't the fuel pump normally keep running after a stall... if the car is in the on posit, the pump comes on and keeps the line pressurized, then stops once there is pressure. If there is a fuel leak, regardless of the turbo timer, the pump would keep pumping unless the ignition was turned off... but in the case of a turbo timer, the fuel pump would stay on after the ignition was turned off or until you shut the timer off also, so it is just one extra thing to turn off... I know on this car and my previous car that hod no turbo, the pump will pressurise when the ignition is in ON, and then stops once there is pressure. If stall, the pressure is bulst, then the pump stops. If turn the ignition off normally all power is cut, but if have a turbo timer the power remains for the timers duration. I may be missing something, or mine is just hooked up well, but there really appears no issue or real difference? Sorry to clutter the thread, please feel free to PM me and explain better RS4-S.

What do you mean and what do they do?
-
Wouldnt the car either stall or just be running as per normal? The turbo timer is only working if turn the car off with the key... And the time can be turned off by pressing a button, touching the pedals or hand break? What about the width of tires? And having a wider rear and narrower front?
-
I understand some of the reasons to object to turbo timers (Unsupervised running vehicles), but if they are installed properly (correct cut offs etc), they really should be ok.. . Why any objections to boost controllers? If they will pass the vehicle running the high or low boost all the time, what is wrong with an adjustable high\low boost controller? As long as these things are installed correctly, and function correctly and safely and are within certain specs, shouldn't they be legal? Final question at present, i know there is rules re the max increase of rim size on a vehicle (do remind us what this is), but presuming it doesnt affect the rolling circumference, why is this really an issue? The real question i was aiming to ask, was I heard you cant have wider rear wheels than the front? OR is this only if the rears exceed the max allowable increase? I was warned that in NSW i could be defected for my FMIC (and possibly pod filter), but here in ACT it is perfectly legal, just the differences in state laws. TA!

That is some messed up sh!t... I'd follow up with legal proceedings also. Is the car insured? Has the incident been reported to them? You still may wanna make a claim and then as part of proceedings try to be reimbursed for it and have the insurance company note on the file later the results (so it isnt a claim against you). Hope you have all receipts, eg the impoundment fee etc... Perhaps in the future some sort of sign/note on the dash of the car if paked somewhere like that? Sorry to hear bout the horrible issue. Best luck sorting it out.

Dammit, it didn't attach to the post properly...

That is true, the Mines doesn't get or need tuning. FMIC, spitfire coils, lightened flywheel and the ecu seems to have done it though.. And that was at 11psi. Duel boosts 6 and 11. Runs really beautifully. I posted the grapu on here somewhere at one point. Here it is again.
