Yeah I've done Dutton. It's not a personal attack guys, I just know what it's like trying to attack a course blind, especially IF you cannot see over or around the guard rails. I don't even know the layout of the special stage, I was just bringing it up for discussion.

Well done guys! I dunno about this NSW round. The WRC special stage sounds cool, but think about it. The WRC guys will be blasting around there looking awesome no doubt. I fail to see any Dutton competitor, without the benefit of pace notes for the stage, looking anything but slow. I can see spectators rolling their eyes at the Dutton cars. Am I wrong?

I'm only regurgitating what a fellow I know said who works in the VW/Audi service dept. He has said they have numerous V10TDi's in for turbo replacement, which apparently is an engine out job, and the turbine needs to be replaced as an assembly (part of the manifold?) and is priced at something ridiculous like over 10k per side....... you know how some things can become exaggerated but I wouldn't be suprised if this was close to the truth. He has also mentioned there had been injection pump issues.

I dunno if I'd really be happy to have a Toureg out of warranty. Especially the V10. Although they're a great car (except the V6 petrol and 5cyl diesel), parts are just way too dear and the V10 diesel has had serious engine issues.

Yeah I'm not saying this particular generation Jeep is the best thing out there, but they are exceptional value, go very nicely, and are quite reliable. Plus a legal limit of 3500kg is ample. The comfort and power cannot be compared to a D22 Navara, and who would you hate enough to put in the back of a dual cab Navara? lol 4.2l Patrol's are great reliable things (3.0 is not), still drive like a truck, the 3.0l is pus, the 4.2 better but still not a rocket. Personally I wouldn't use an R8 for towing anything heavy.

Personal opinion I guess FYI, the Grand Cherokee's Oz gets are Austrian built and are very different from the US domestic versions You won't buy a decent 'Cruiser for under 20k .....

WJ Grang Cherokee V8 is your friend. They're a good thing. For 12k you should be able to find an "Overland" spec, which has the high output V8 and all the other fruit. I've had two of them, wouldn't hesitate in another one and they're great value. will shit over any of the other vehicles listed towing-wise too

Easy. Buy a helmet with HANS posts and a HANS device. Open or closed face, whatever floats your boat. Open face are lighter, therefore you would think less chance of a neck injury without HANS........ "you can still be cut up by shit flying about in a decent acco.".... that's gonna be a big acco, hope it's caged and everything too!

Greg would be familiar, if you're running in a podium position, it's normal for the event cameramen to come and collect your in-car footage at the first opportunity. No questions asked. As Greg said, they own the footage.

I thought it would be interesting to have a look at our footage, to listen to the calls as well. Now, Timmy might like to chime in here as well, but I reckon that if I hadn't been watching for the chicane distance markers we would have gone strait through them...... as it was we were pretty close to the braking limit, as the call was "keep right over crest straight, 80, chicane". I'll upload the vid for you to judge.

I hear you. Everyone makes a mistake at some time, and it's my personal opinion that what goes on in the car, stays in the car. I have a theory, and it may be a weak one, that when Rod was saying"where was the f**king chicane call?", he wasn't so much asking Sammy as asking himself, like, where was it in his brain and why did he miss it? It's only a theory, mainly because I could hear myself asking myself the same question out loud if in a similar situation. Regardless, the first question after a hit like that should be "are you ok?". 2. I definately would have got off the brakes and just hit the chicane. Hitting a chicane isn't the end of the world, flat spotting all four tyres and going hard into the scenery is. Check out the skid marks in Sav's video at 3:34!
