Should we talk in third person?
-
I know what a novated lease is - I have my GTR on one as well pre-tax goodness
-
will there be passenger laps? I'm pretty keen as long as my car is fit for it, haven't been to sandown yet, looking forward to trying it

Speaking of insurance - how do you go with insurance on your HSV at 26 years old?
-
heheh it was actually my gearbox that blew not my clutch But good point How much power can the manual transmissions take in the HSVs? they run a 6speed getrag right? The 4wd system in a GTR is different/better than the subaru system IMO. The GTR puts power to the Rear wheels by default. When it detects traction loss to the rear wheels and/or too many lateral or longitudanal (sp?) G-forces it puts up to 50% of the power to the front wheels. The computer that runs this is called the ATTESA, and depending on the model of GTR it checks at different rates. R33 GTR checks at 100times/sec, R33 GTR Vspec checks at 1000times/sec. I think its a better system than the constant AWD because when your not breaking traction your loosing more engery/power driving the front wheels when they don't need to be. GTR's have a natural tendancy to overstear (not as bad as a RWD), where as say subaru AWD system has a tendancy to understeer. And i couldn't agree with you more about your choice - you have the best of both worlds, a bit of squirt when you want it, but still able to tow a boat/take the family in the car on holiday

This is a nissan drivetrain, not a holden one haha sorry i tried to hold back, i'm just taking the piss the same i do with my friends who drive holdens (we go back and forth but its all just talk).... If the clutch clamps and doesn't slip then the clutch doesn't burn - i can dump my clutch at 6-7-8k RPM it just bites and goes... no slip, no smell.... I can even slip my clutch a little when dropping it from high RPM and it doesn't smell. You do realise GTR's are 4wd right? If we launched at 3-4k we'd just bog down.

New Brake Pads Fitted - Still making Noise
ferni replied to Babylon's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Performance pads usually come with some noise, althought some would argue bendix are barely performance pads. -
gotta be happy with the sound tho

why would i do that, there will be no other skylines there

Roy: My car makes about 260rwkw in non-shootout mode and around 280rwkw in shootout. I don't see why i wouldn't have been giving my car stick at PI that lap you were following me, i think i'd just spun and pulled out in front of you so i wasn't at full speed until you had caught me (you catching me down the straight was because i spun) but turns 2-3 and honda i'm pretty sure i would of been going flat out, and you still kept up with me/caught me Wasn't going as good as i was in my earlier laps tho. Vuster: I run 1 bar boost with an exaust and tuned, which gives me 270ish rwkw. Stock internals/injectors/ecu (ecu is chipped but nfi what it is - came like that from japan). And skylinegeoff is right - the reason i got so little runs in at the drag strip that time i was there is because i smashed 3rd gear ( http://gtr.ferni.net/photos/07%20-%20Gearb...ox%20go%20BANG/ ) Roy: yep same power/mods i'm running now, except a new gearbox now

GTR33 Compression Test, high?? help plz!?
ferni replied to GTR4ever's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Most people say as long as the figures are roughly the same its fine - these figures look very similar so should be ok? -
My GTR runs about 270rwkw, at 1 bar boost and exaust... the first week i had the car i did some runs on a Gtech, with passenger, crap tyres, average launch and clutch was in average condition and was pulling 4.4sec 0-100, I've had friends time me on a stop watch at 4seconds flat as well, i know its not accuriate but just shows i think my car could run 4second flats.. I've been to the quater strip once, only got a few runs in, had trouble with axle tramp/traction off the line and was running 12.4@112mph... i think i could of done better with a bit more practice and a better day for traction (the track wasn't in the best cond) Stock GTR, 5seconds sure, lightly modded - exaust and boost like mine, 4flats i recon, thats why i was basing it off 4sec... but also vuster said he did 5.4 0-100 in his car... so i brought his 5.4 down to a 5 as well.... Vuster:its just maths , besides the figures aren't exact since its averaging the acceleration on the time to 100k/h we are using... 4.7s vs what? 5s? ---------- Distance = (inital speed + final speed / 2) * time So say at 4seconds car A (0-100 in 4.7secs) is doing 100k/h (27.7metres/s) and car B (0-100 in 5secs) is doing 90k/h (22.2metres/s) D = (27.7m/s / 2) * 4.7s D = 13.85m/s * 4.7s D = 65metres D = (25m/s / 2 ) * 4.7s D = 12.5m/s * 4.7s D = 58metres Car A would be 65metres down the road Car B would be 58metres down the road So difference would be _about_ 7metres... Vuster: you should join SAU Vic club and come on some of our cruises, show the rest of the members how what a HSV is like (and the owner ).. would be good to see a nice new HSV in the mix. My mates a member and he drives a Subaru B4, soon to be M5.
-
Yep they are right, and so are yours... distance = initial speed * time + ( 1/2 ) * acceleration * time^2 gives you the same figures i got above I based it that at the 4second mark, Car A would be doing 100km/h and at the 4second mark Car B would be doing 80km/h - what would the difference in distance (metres) be?
-
opps sorry...where was my brain this morning Its much more like 10 metres.... Distance = (inital speed + final speed / 2) * time So say at 4seconds car A (0-100 in 4secs) is doing 100k/h (27.7metres/s) and car B (0-100 in 5secs) is doing 80k/h (22.2metres/s) D = (27.7m/s / 2) * 4s D = 13.85m/s * 4s D = 55.4metres D = (22.2m/s / 2 ) * 4s D = 11.1m/s * 4s D = 44.4metres Car A would be 54metres down the road Car B would be 44metres down the road So difference would be about 10metres...
-
No offence taken, i was just trying to put some figures out... the 4second flat is probably debatable.. a stock GTR wouuld be closer to 5seconds or low 5s.. my car has boost/exaust and can pretty much do 4 flats (its hard to tell exactly).. You said you did 5.4 0-100 in yours, say the GTR does 4.4 thats still 1 second at 27metres/s so thats a few car lengths... I think some people don't realise thatn when you pull 4-5 car lenghs up to 100 its probably only 1second difference... but then again 4second is 20% quicker than 5seconds 0-100.... but i do agree its hard to tell when someone backs off/brakes when they are behind you.
-
The GTR probably does 0-100 in around 4 flat... so over 1sec quicker than your car... at 100ks/h how many car lengths is in 1 second? 100 km/h = 27.7777778 meters / second But top of 3rd in a GTR is around 180.
-
Mate blew his RB25DET by putting normal unleaded and giving his car stick... GTS4dood: nope it won't... I always run 98ron and usually ad a bottle of octane boost on trackdays - mainly for saftey. I don't think you'd see any performance gain, just a bit of saftey if your cars tune is on the edge or you're giving it a flogging.
-
Vuster: Did you ever track your S15? How do you find the HSV handles compared to the S15?
-
yeah fair enough i guess there is quite a lot of gtst's that run exaust, bit more boost, FMIC etc.. and make around 180-190rwkw.. a couple of my mates gtsts have changed thier turbos (still std injectors/internals) and make around 250rwkw, so to me thats normal for gtsts... I guess the 180-200rwkw gtsts would probaly struggle to keep up with you in a straight line, but the 250rwkw ones will probably give you a good run
-
Lag won't be determined by the power figure, you could get a 400rwkw GTR with minimal lag... having said that, a GTR by nature will feel laggy compared to your WRX probably.. have you been in any or driven any yet? You sound like you want response and power, for that HKS GTSS or 2530 turbos making with forged internals and all the other stuff that goes with it making around 320rwkw i think would be what you're after... R33 GTR with those goodies your probably looking around the 50k mark give or take.
-
not all skyline drivers are idiots, and as you have shown neither are all holden drivers heres my opinion, a stock gtst you'd kill (around 6-7s 0-100?) a average modded gtst (230-250rwkw etc..) would be pretty even (around 5s 0-100?) a bog stock GTR would be pretty close but there aren't many of them out there (around 5s 0-100?) a lightly modded GTR (boost/exaust) would probably beat you (around 4s 0-100) a modded GTR, no offense but without slicks i think you'd be left for dead... I think the V8 holden/hsv's are pretty good cars these days, but it all depends on what you want right? If you need to carry 4-5 people comfortably and tow a boat/caravan and want a reasonably quick car etc... then a V8 holden is a good choice.. if you want just a quick car, then i think it would be a better choice going for a GTR etc...each to thier own however...I couldn't tow a caravan and 5 people in my car... A mates mate the other day had a SS with some work done to it and was paying out jap cars etc.. i turned around and said whenever you want to line up let me know, he knew i'd kill him, so turned around and said 'sure lets see how youd go towing 2 tonne trailor and 5 people' my comment was 'are we racing or are we taking the kids and caravan on a holiday'

I bought a pack of plastic gears for the diff and spur gear for the TT01 the other day, cost me 13bucks... so stuff all compared to what its worth.

Tyres you use(d) and how u would rate them
ferni replied to ZigenGT's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
ZE326 Dry: 4/10 Wet: 2/10 Value for $: 5/10 Cheap tyre, you get what you pay for - crap. Hankook K104 Dry: 8/10 Wet 7/10 Value: 10/10 Great road tyre for the money - around 1200 for a set of 255/35/18
