R33 GTR - Clutch/Flywheel kit recommendations?
ferni replied to Blitz's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
How do Jims clutchs (wonder if its like jims mowing? ) handle daily driving (in traffic)? I'm after a clutch that can hold decent power and last longer than a year in daily driving (traffic etc..) Does he provide a flywheel with it as well? or does he modify your std flywheel? I've lost my std flywheel only have the lightweight one from my twinplate (in my car atm) -
Aurora: I fixed mine by pulling it apart and fitting it back together... As meshmesh said above he ordered from from "The units are identical to those from the standard skyline coupes. I got mine from Mark Gibbs Panel House in QLD for $45 + delivery Tel: 07 3808 8737" There are 2 different types tho - one is the brushed metal finish, another is a clearcoat finish...

Wierd - did they test drive the car? did you tell them about this vibration? they'd probably be better to ask.

Sorry to hijack, so you can just buy a USBeXtreme to play backups without a chip? just plug a portable hard drive in with the game image on it? -
Thanks cogs! you guys impresse me how you do that - i can do simple stuff in photoshop, but can't do stuff like that for the life of me What about putting this lower lip on : http://www.nismo.com.au/pricelists/General...gtrlowerlip.jpg Which one do you think will look better?

Sounds like it needs a wheel balance - maybe the place you took it to did a dodgy one... are you sure htey did a wheel balance and not just a wheel alignment?

Finally someone who knows what they are talking about

wilch, thats a pretty good effort, thanks dude

As already said, not all headunits are smart enough to put the antenna down when not needed (playing CD's). If the antenna goes up and comes down when you turn your headunit on/off then you have it wired right but it just won't pu the antenna down when playing CDs.

Need Advise on Skylines in Detail
ferni replied to Mekizo's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
THe 32GTR and 33GTR are very similar cars, same engine, same 4wd system etc.... There are little tweaks/improvments made to the 33GTR but it is also a bit heavier... the biggest difference would probably be looks and age IMO. with similar specs they would both go as hard as each other. -
Ash beat me to it - but a large portion of the freeways you listed snowman are all tolled... They are private, the government doesn't/shouldn't have to look after them, they are private, and we pay tolls on them for a reason. What pisses me off is that we had the part of the s.e freeway after Toorak road to the city, free, and had been paid for, for years (probably by most of our parents), yet they give it away to a private company who now charges us to go on the road that has been already paid for by us (the tax payers).... Speed Cameras should be used to deter people from speeding where it causes accidents/damage/injury... which is why I think permanent speed cameras in bad intersections/roads are good, people get to know they are there and they slow down for them - in turn reducing the accidents created from that road/intersection... but that wouldn't raise the government as much money... Do they want our money or do they want to reduce accidents? They are 2 separate things, and I think its pretty low of them to pick money over reducing accidents. I think its unfair to make people who don't use the roads as much as others pay the same, so I guess the only fair way is the more you use the roads the more you pay - easiest way to do that is to put more taxes on fuel I guess. I should also mention that I haven't had a speeding fine for the last 5-6 years, I've only ever had 2, both were <5k/s over, both were speed cameras, 1 was when I was on my L's!! and one was 103k/h in a 100 zone (sth gippy hwy) which was back in 98. The people speeding shouldn't be doing it, but them speeding doesn't wear our roads out more. I think maintence of roads should come from fuel tax (or something similar) and fixing up blind spots and bad intersections could use the finance from speed cameras. What about that guy the other day on the news that pulled over in front of the speed camera and started waving to traffic to warn them, the police rocked up and warned him for it - said it was distracting to motorists and was obstructing justice! WTF?!? What do you think speed cameras are? they are the biggest distraction, every time I see a car parked on the side of the road I think could be a speed camera I'm automatically slowing down, checking my speed and looking to see if its a speed camera, regardless of if I'm under the limit or not - speed cameras are a distraction by themself.. no more than this guy was that was warning motorists. Obstructing justice? The idea of the speed camera is to slow people down, he was doing the same thing, how is that obstructing justice? Moron.

thanks better than i could do. Can still see the old front lip underneath tho... but it has made me realise that i'll need to paint the inside bit of the front bar (around the intercooler) black or purple as well

Can someone please photoshop this picture of my car http://gtr.ferni.net/photos/09%20-%20calde...-2-05/Ferni.JPG and put this Series 3 lower lip on it: http://www.nismo.com.au/pricelists/General...ries3gtrbar.jpg with the lip in the same colour as the front bar, and a 2nd pic with the lip in black? Thanks

Shock / Spring Tech Discussion
ferni replied to Roy's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yeah as SK mentioned -1.8 isn't heaps, i use my car on track as well as street... i think the -1.8 matches the -2.2 up front... if its just a normal daily driver then less camber would be better for longer tyre life. -
Thats good to know, i didn't know that.. I've had my engine oil temp pretty high on the track tho and haven't seen it come on, i would of said it would of been pretty close to 130 deg (before i got my oil cooler)... where did you get this info? Is it the same on R33 GTR? i'd assume so.
-
From what i've heard, if you want more than 400rwkw then probably best to go for a custom single... anything less then you'd probably be best sticking to twins.

Cheap and nasty or do for now???
ferni replied to grandmasterb's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
From what i've heard told these are very old technology and are a waste of money.
