  1. Fun fact for alcohol buffs. China now consumes nearly 60% of high end Italian and French wine produced. This is expected to go as high as 80% in the next 10 years. You reckon a good French wine is exxy now? Wait until demand goes through the roof shortly. I actually know two massive wine buffs who are buying up good Burgundy and Bordeaux by the case ($150-$200 a bottle stuff) to store in multiple thousand wine bottle cellars. They figure they have a win win scenario. Either the speculation pays off and they make a mint, or it doesn't and they have cellars full of brilliant wine to last them decades.
  2. Also, we only have another 10-15 years left where the US is the dominant economic player in any global market. The sheer size of the markets in India and China combined with rapidly developing standards of living will make the US rate 3rd at best by the middle of this century. And that's not far off. 2050 is closer to today than 1970...
  3. For gaming perhaps that argument holds true, but not for other media. Again, China's middle class alone is bigger than the entire US population and their internet is a shadow of western standards. Hell, they have government mandated, ISP level filtering on content. Digital distribution of movies, music, tv etc in China at least (and there are more english speakers in China then the US, UK and Oceania combined so language isn't an issue) isn't a real option. For this reason alone physical media will be here for years to come. It may be harder to access in bricks and mortar stores in Australia, but it's not going anywhere from a global market point of view.
  4. Sony learnt their lesson with the PS3 and its poor performance stacked up against the 360. Nearly all of their DRM that isn't around copy protection is gone. They have openly and unambiguously stated as such in many different forums. As for majority of people, that needs to be clarified. A Majority of people in the US perhaps, but licensing restrictions, poor content delivery options and the lack of widely available high-speed internet outside of major western cities still leaves a majority of the world with physical media as their primary source. I doubt China or India have the infrastructure in place to support digital only distribution and china's middle class is bigger than the entire US market.
  5. Not enough people care? Did you see how f**king fast MS backpedaled on all the Xbone bullshit? Or how Sony decisively won the next gen console war with a 22 second video before the consoles even came out? As for physical media dieing... 4K video anyone (although I dislike that for a whole stack of other reasons)? Even with the best compression codecs in development 4K video is like 100GB an hour. Very few people have either the bandwidth or the allocation to be able to deal with that more than once or twice a month. Physical media will be around for a LONG time to come.
  6. caveat - subscription services. I will gladly pay for subscription services like netflix et al but refuse to buy content through iTunes. Want a reason why? Have a look at the iTunes EULA. It's f**ked. That movie you just bought? No you didn't - it's theirs, not yours. They can revoke your ability to view or download it at ANY time for ANY reason. Don't believe me? http://www.macrumors.com/2013/10/24/apple-pulls-some-disney-and-pixar-titles-from-itunes-store-and-itunes-in-the-cloud/
  7. f**k digital distribution as the sole distribution channel right up the ass. Unless they can guarantee a way that the license will exist in perpetuity, the file will also be available for download for the same and it is freely transferable at MY discretion then digital only is a DANGEROUS game to be playing with consumer rights.
  8. Will depend on flight times for me. Steph leaves for the UK that day so I have to be at the airport with her if it's morning I'm out, if it's evening I'm in. Will confirm closer to the day.
  9. I fit S13's fine. Never tried an E30. FC/FD is a no no, same with MX-5's. Old AWD cars like GC8V or EVO 5-6 interest me but they are significantly more expensive to start. May require less work however... I only want moderate power, almost any car will have more than I can fully use.
  10. It is one idea. My criteria are simple for my 'fun' car once I can afford one. Cheap, light, RWD/AWD and I can fit in it with a helmet on.
  11. V series aren't really sports cars (in my opinion) so manual is silly :-P I want a V36 as a daily and an s13 or E30 for fun. Soon, soon I will have money and not be a uni bum.
  12. I hate foot brakes. I really do. It's the only thing that makes me think twice about getting a V36 in the future. Depending on date I might be keen, can probably get Dylan to come as well, I know he likes to get the AMG sideways.
  13. I should have added Nissan... Do you have a problem with other Rb powered Nissan's attending? If not, why not.
  14. Eddie, do you have a problem with cars powered by RB's and are NOT skylines attending? If not, why not?
  15. Where exactly is the difference? The RB rule allowed for a lot of modified Nissan's (RB Powered S chassis and Datsun's for example) as well as other models of Nissan (Laurel, Cefiro, Stagea) to attend. The current V36 Skyline uses a VQ engine, as does the current M35 Stagea, As do the A32 and A33 Cefiro's, the Y33 Leopard (and we've allowed the Y31 along for a few years...) and the J31 Teana (the new name for the Laurel) and so on. It seems odd that you were ok with these exceptions for older RB powered cars but not for newer cars that share the current Skyline powerplant. We either had to make a long ass list of cars that were allowed or make one small rule change to accommodate the changing face of Nissan. Yes this opens the cruise up to more cars, but do you really want to turn away people if they are willing to attend, be well behaved and donate to charity? Or to flip it around, if the RB had been used in as many cars as the VQ currently is, would you have a problem with making exceptions for all of those cars as well?
  16. I'm also curious as to how apps like Strava (http://www.strava.com/) will be affected seeing as they activel encourage competition between users and it times your ride on open roads to be placed on a leader board. Sounds like a Time Trial to me.
  17. I'm more curious as to how it will fair in court after the ruling handed down in Bell v Police ([2012] SASC 188)
  18. The great thing is, the Club Red activity can go on all year I donate whole blood every three months and have just started donating plasma. Every donation you do counts towards the club red tally, just make sure you let them know to add it in
  19. I love whisky in all it's fine forms. Admittedly I find most bourbon is too rough to drink straight. Some exceptions, Basil Haydens for example. And I REALLY love Old Fashioneds
  20. the Hibiki is often considered to be the best blended whisky ever created. You lucky, lucky son of a bitch.
  21. I see a lot of discussion about Scotch. This makes me happy in my pants. Scotch puts hairs on chests and intrigue, mystery and sex appeal into women who drink it. However this is only touching the surface of whisky/ey gentlemen! What of Rye's, Sour Mash, Irish, Japanese or dare I say... Australian!
  22. Queens Plaza is easy to find. Final Building in the Queen Street Mall, Parking off of Edward St.
