  1. It wasnt on my bill when i got my 32 done, so i guess not. Compliancer's only do what they have to in order for the car to be registered and nothing more usually. If the car came in with stuffed brakes they would have had to put newies in to get it registered. Probably a pretty rare occurance actually Red17
  2. I had one on my car when it came into the country and all it had under the foam was five or so narrow bits of plastic which kept the foam in its semi circular shape. No mesh. Mine hasnt ingested one, but ive heard of it happening. And by the look of my one, it didnt look very difficult to do. Trying to get performance increases from air filters is for people with small bore atmo engines, if we want more power, we just up the boost so why not get the best filtering filter available on the market and put up with having 3hp less. turbo timer

Well they ARE convenient if you need to get out of the car in a hurry but you dont want to turn the car off. So in that sense theyre good, i generally idle my car down out in the car park across the road because the neighbours go spastic at me for doing it in the car port. So my HKS timer rarely gets used. But it came with the car, so i no complain. I wouldnt call them unwanted rice, but more a convenience like, power windows, adjustable seats, power mirrors, a cd player etc.. Shall i go on? Red17
  4. Mine also shudders when its cold... not violently, but just a faint one. I believe this is pretty standard cold clutch syndrome which occurs in most cars to a certain amount. Is it the sort of thing that feels like its shaking the car apart? Or just a faint shudder? Mine only seems to do it very occasionally. I KNOW my clutch is in good nick since ive had the engine out recently. So perhaps its normal Red17
  5. A filter that doesnt filter is called CRAP rob. And HKS foamies, are indeed CRAP. Wait till you ingest one into a turbo and see how great you feel about them. Red17
  6. Mine ran 14.6 with a cat back exhaust, blitz ECU, air pod, stock turbo, 11psi. This was on a night that i broke it on my 6th run, no compression in cylinder 6 (2 valves burnt). After fixing it we discovered that it had been running for a while with lower comp in that cylinder, so it was a tad down on power. Feels quicker now that its all fixed up. If i tried again with a bit of practice I might get it down to a 14.4. While the figure the site stipulates is probably now a genuine stock time... its not THAT far off. However their weight listed is also a bit off the mark (i believe the 32 gtst weights 1350-80?) Red17 But i dont see the point in hammering the car when I havent changed anything that would make it go any faster
  7. Oh yeah, hes huge *bwahahahaha* Red17
  8. Im not sure a high rev limit is of most concern to people anyway. Most RB's (and engines in general) make peak power before redline anyway. Why the interest in increasing the redline? Red17
  9. Also can you tell me if the brakes are alloy calipers or iron calipers. Thanks Red17
  10. Got a mate whos interested in the brakes, can you ship to perth? Whats the condition like, rotor's usable? any pads? Red17
  11. My box makes a similar noise from the sounds, the RB20 box seems to have a rep for being weak. Anyway, my dad, a mechanic of 20 years experience believes its the main input shaft bearing thats worn. My reverse shaft bearing is also rooted. Put it in reverse and leave the clutch down and it makes an awful racket going backwards, but bring the clutch up to actually engage reverse and move backwards it makes the standard reverse whine you hear in any car. Like i was told, if your not experiencing any problems when driving such as it popping out of gear, or abnormal clutch slip etc.. then youve probably not got alot to worry about clutch/box wise in the immediate future. Just bear in mind that long term it may warrant a box rebuild, or at the very least the worn bits replaced. Either that or youve just got a heavy duty clutch of sorts Red17
  12. Maybe across much of the country they wouldnt get the more prolonged cold temps required to create ice worthy of using salt on? Coz ive never seen a jap car with a rust problem yet (well nothing newish and imported), im sure weve all seen our share of rusty KE30 corolla's in our time Red17
  13. Ok maybe im wrong then, damn university education lets me down again. These authors of text books should really stop publishing lies Red17 BA (Geography)
  14. It doesnt snow that much in Japan. The mainland and the south in particular (where the most people live) is more prone to temperate/sub tropical climate which has typhoons and torrential rain in winter, humid wet summers. Sapporo however is usually covered in snow during winter, but thats about 1.7 million people out of 126 million. Not that many cars really I dare say the problem exsists, but its probably fairly uncommon. If your worried, id check things like chassis rails and subframe parts. Red17
  15. Funny you say that, i spoke to someone yesterday that said theyve never been to an event at collie when theres not been an accident of some kind. Re: Silvia, yeah apparently it went head on into a tyre wall, it was described to me as a write off. Red17

    air con...

Ive found mine is a little intermittent at times too. I thought it needed a re gas after I got my car back from having the motor out. Then suddenly the next day it was ice cold again. It does seem to struggle on extra hot days though, so maybe its a common ailment. By the looks of the screen on mine I'd say nissan didnt do the best job in the first place of manufacturing them. Sorry i cant offer a solution Red17
  17. I saw that blue VT at 12.30 on my way back into perth. Figured it was a dumped car, didnt realise the pole in front of the car was what it had hit. The commodore on the other side of the narrows has been there for 2 days, its got "vehicle reported" stickers on it. Red17
  18. Denver described this to me last night on the phone, he said there was actually very little damage to the car. I think he might have been in it at the time. He was also walking along the tyre wall when the Silvia hit later on. Which he said was "f'in wrecked!" So he nearly came a cropper twice through no fault of his own. Maybe someone has a contract out on him. Red17
  19. Ok, the silicon thing, you make a good point Roy. I'd recently heard some less than desirable stories about APS kits which are ALL silicon hoses. This led me to believe that the use of silicon hose was not an ideal solution to intercooler piping. And as you point out, is probably a more expensive solution anyway Red17
  20. Its not so much the core HSVKLR, its the way theyve connected it. Instead of using metal bends, theyve used silicon hose sections. This has a habit of expanding under pressure causing an uneccesary weakness in the system. Imagine something expanding and contracting as you come on and off boost. Im not sure about the net result of this, whether it be your boost is less effective (eg 14psi becomes 11 after expanding of the hoses) or if its merely more lag. Either way, it cant be good. I dont want to diss UAS gear, because they sell alot of quality gear, its just their piping kits might leave a little to be desired. You can always buy a core, then get the piping done by someone in stainless or mild steel? Red17
  21. I had my Pulsar insure with them so i phoned them up, asked about their policy on imports.... quoted and accepted the insurance on my R32 for $1300. Put the phone down Called back 2 minutes later: "Hi id like to cancel my policy on my Nissan pulsar" "Sure no worries" Its worth going with them, ive spoken to panel beaters numerous times about which company is best to deal with and QBE comes out on top all the time. SGIO apparently have the biggest rep for not paying up on customers. Red17
  22. Im with western QBE also, 2 years NCB, costs me $1300 a year. Ive been told mine will drop to $950 this year too (26 tomorrow!) QBE wont insure imports at all if its new business though, they require you to have an exsisting policy, because theyre s.hit scared you'll go elsewhere. So transfer your home and contents over to them as well. I also qualify for 10 percent discount, being a season ticket holder at Perth Oval. Handy when your insurance bill is over a grand a year. Red17
  23. I thought the UAS coolers were good until i saw the pic attached to this post. Im sure the core is fantastic, it certainly does look well made, but using silicon hose for bends isnt such a great idea. Personally, id go for an ARE kit, probably more expensive, but at least your getting quality metal bends in HPC steel. At the end of the day, ya cant beat the japanese stuff... but you pay for it. Red17
  24. Yes, ive seen a few N14's with the GTiR grille, so it must be do'able. Not that theres much difference between the two. Red17
  25. I use Silkolene DOT4 for my brakes. Its damn good compared to the crappy Mobil and Castrol that regular auto shops stock. Good sources for quality fluids, both transmission and brake, is motorbike shops. They stock really good brands like Motul, Belray and Silkolene. One type of racing brake fluid Silkolene make retails for about $38 for 500ml's! I use the cheaper $16 dollar one which is good enough for most people id say. Generally i change brake fluid once a year, but I dont do alot of motorsport, so it tends to get changed when I can feel the pedal is horrible. I use Mobil 1 10W/30 in my Skyline for engine oil.
