  1. Build quality on the Proton's are horrific. Euro cars are made pretty well, ive driven a 206... super sweet package. Red17
  2. NO_RSPECT, My brother recently made a nice set of 17mm spacers for his 180SX so he could fit 4 pot skyline brakes behind his 18 inch wheels. These things are almost a work of art, they turned out sweeeeet. Ill try and get some names for you but basically you can get a big round aluminium biscuit from a trade metals shop (i think this is $160 a metre, but you'll only need about 2 x 20mm pieces). Then take it to an engineering place and get them to lathe it all up for you, cost my bro $40. Then you need longer wheel studs to match of course, wide spacers without long studs is infinitely stupid. Nismo, ARP and a couple of other places sell these. You could go to C-Red also, i think theyre selling some. But its alot cheaper if you do the leg work yourself. Red17
  3. If it was going to be a drag car then id say go for it. This quote clearly implies that it ISNT. So handling is most certainly RELEVANT. Red17
  4. Personally i wouldnt do either of those conversions. The RB motors are vastly heavier than their SR counterparts (SR is all alloy). Sure you might find the RB easier to get gains when modifying, but you make the car weigh more and ruin the Silvias great handling balance entirely in the process. For the power figure your looking for i'd stick with modifying an SR (however im not sure if 250rwkw can be done on that motor without changing pistons and rods). Ask a good tuning shop. If you plan on doing the conversion then be sure to whack some nice brakes on. Stock S13 Silvia's have horrible brakes. Red17
  5. I spent a whole weekend in a 500hp R32 GTR for the Classic Challenge one year. Had the time of my life and came out of it NEEDING to own an R32. I just cant bloody afford a GTR! Has Ken still got that grey one for sale? Buy that, its sweeeeet Red17
  6. So what have you got the taste for? Whats the reason for selling? Red17
  7. Pva, Just a question were those marks on the road achieved whilst obeying the 10 rules in your signature? Personally, i havent seen too many gurls driving skylines, there should be more of it! I see lots in 180SX's and Silvia's tho. Red17
  8. I changed mine at my mates workshop about 4 weeks back, was charged for 3 litres. Not sure if he was just trying to charge me less because i was a mate or if thats realistic. The oil change is simple really but I wouldnt want to do it without a hoist and a bottle of gearbox oil with a pump on it. All i did was hoist it up, drain the old fluid from the bottom plug. Then take the side plug off (this hole is the way you tell that the level of oil is right). Put the bottom plug back in. Stick hose in the end of the side hole, pump it in until the oil spills out of the side hole. Your gearbox is full. If you dont have a hoist the process is pretty much the same, but you might have to pour the oil in from the top of the gearbox which means pouring it down the shifter hole. Which is a royal pain in the arse compared to the first method. Red17
  9. I thought gas was a no no on turbo motors? Not sure if its an Urban Myth but a mate of mine used to be a mechanic said he saw a VL Turbo Calais shatter a turbo housing when a backfire occured whilst running on gas? Anyone care to correct me? Red17
  10. 46n2 Ive done some reading on alot of the Japanese kits for the R32 such as Trust, HKS, BLitz etc... All of them make use of the original piping to the front bumper. So they have a length of tube that runs across the length of the core (usually the bottom from what ive seen) to a 90 degree exit end tank. The good thing about this is that you can pretty much do your intercooler piping for alot less than say Silvia or 180SX owners, with about 1.5 metre of straight pipe and a handfull of bends. Some aussie kits ive seen (UAS i think) use the stock intake plenum so the pipe goes across the top of the motor, then it goes back across the motor again and down through what i think is just beneath the battery area. This involves much more custom piping. And looks alot less "stock" when cops pop the bonnet. Personally, im keeping the standard pipes to the front bumper and just extending as required. Red17
  11. 46n2, Yes its normal, the 32's with standard bovs are very loud. Ive now got one that vents to atmosphere and is quieter. Theres nothing wrong with the operation of the standard bov, its just that it vents back right before the air filter and is just as loud, if not louder, than an aftermarket one. Seems to be very sensitive to throttle too, where as aftermarket ones tend only to vent LOUDLY when you WANT it to, not all the time. I was asked by the cops to change my BOV back to factory when it was already factory. They couldnt believe how loud it was. Red17
  12. No i'm not saying that you can do anything as long as the traffic is stationary. I'm just stating that in relation to motorcycles doing this there doesnt appear to be any actual LAW stating the specific action of riding between stationary traffic is illegal in WA. Dont jump of the deep end mate, your 4wd statement is entirely something different, because the embankment isnt part of the road! I never stated or even implied that ANYTHING (eg: burnouts and wheelies) was legal when done in stationary traffic, so please dont twist my words around for the sake of your argument. A loophole is a loophole. Thats what makes it legal. How can that be wrong? And while im at it... "Because by what your statement anything is legal as long as the rest of the traffic is stationary" <--- thats some sentence for a lad with 2 degree's. Red17 1 Degree, And a Life PS: Lock it, im bored.
  13. R33NT, when you asked the police in perth did you state "is it legal when the traffic is STOPPED?". Because as per usual in Perth, the police have little idea about the law they enforce at times. Its the same thing with defect notices, they get those wrong all the time (Transport is sick to death of sending cars back out on the street without any problems, fortunately Engineers know best). After consulting the traffic infringements listing, the drive safe handbook, WA road safety manual and making a few calls to inside sources at the Department of Planning and Infrastructure (formerly Transport), ive come up with NOTHING that points either way that theres anything against it being done in stopped traffic. There was a mention of it being illegal when the traffic was moving, which is a given. Not going out of my way to prove you wrong, just getting the facts for a whole bunch of bike riders I associate with, just out of curiosity really. As far as weve known its always been a loophole in traffic law and motorcyclists have always gotten away with it, simply because they can. Not condoning it of course. It doesnt bother me much anyway as long as the traffic isnt moving. And if the guy is riding a hog then lets face it, the bloody thing is too big for such manouveres anyway Red17 Perth
  14. Well the R33 was designed in a period where Nissan also released, the S14 silvia. It seemed the mid nineties nissan wanted to add a bit of luxo to their sports cars, which is probably why the R33 and S14 both got larger and better optioned than their respective earlier series. Where as the R34 and S15 seemed to gravitate back towards a more pure sports styling (something the R32 always seems to be credited with). I wont offer an opinion on R32 vs R33 because obviously im biased. Red17
  15. I think some people around here need a "tongue in cheek" detector. Sheesh Red17
  16. I dont want to seem pedantic, but why is it we can tell people to avoid products of certain companies, while threads mentioning bad things about tuning shops and the like are locked in a matter of minutes? Are larger corporations allowed to be criticised? If thats the case id like to take issue with: Microsoft Exxon Enron Worldcom Mayne Group Stern Lecture Plumbing Thankyou. Red17
  17. Yes Gradenko, but unlike getting caught for 70 over, my accidents werent MY fault. I was merely expressing the fact that the experience scared the crap out of me and as such I tend to treat driving as a much more serious matter than in my untamed youth. And i fully agree with you on the 50 zone part, despite the lack of reduced road toll. Pedestrian stupidity will never be eradicated. Indeed the freeway IS a safe place to speed (however my point was always that the freeway is more policed, not that it was less safe). So are alot of roads out the back of "Whoop whoop". You need to pick and choose obviously but theres alot of roads out there that id rate as being very safe for having a bit of a lark. Now before someone elses objects to my post and says "The freeway is a safe place to speed" read my post AGAIN, see the bit where i say "...unlikley to hurt anyone on the freeway and its a safe road". I AGREE WITH YOU DAMMIT And PSIKO, ive looked right through this thread searching for where ive linked speeding to crashes and cant yet find what the heck your on about. Red17
  18. Gradenko, i was clearly having a dig at someone because they didnt learn to speed in less policed areas after the first time they were caught. Ive got nothing against speeding as you might claim, just dont speed in stupid places. As for being convinced by the government, thats just crap. I was convinced from two accidents that driving is not something to be taken lightly. And when i speed i make sure i do it alone and where if i or something goes wrong, im the only person I hurt. But i suppose gradenko because you hate the goverment so much you speed everywhere just to show you have no respect for their authoritah. Youd condone for instance 70km/h over through a pedestrian precinct because to the best of your knowledge speeding in fact doesnt kill? Yes its all a government conspiracy. Everyone likes to open it up now and then, just do it out the back of whoop whoop and not on the freeway. While your probly unlikley to hurt anyone on the freeway and its a safe road, in terms of police presence you may as well wind down the window and throw your licence out. Red17
  19. summoner, you mean you got caught TWICE for 70km/h over? Did you not learn the first time or are you just galactically stupid? Speeding on the freeway is a recipe for disaster. It's pretty well policed most of the time (even the far southern bits). Personally I barely speed at all on the road, rarely anymore than 10-15km/h over anyway for any longer than 30 seconds. If i want to speed big style i'll wait until i can get to the track or make sure its on some road at some time so far out of the way that coppers or even other road users are nowhere to be seen. I have enough fun most of the time just getting to the speed limit faster than everyone else at the lights, then short shift into 5th. Red17
  20. I removed my standard one on my 32 because it was f^&kin noisy. Ive now got a TurboXs which vents to atmosphere and is quieter! Figure that one out The standard one makes a horrible hissing noise too and when the car comes on boost all you can hear is air rushing under the bonnet (hard to explain). It wasnt until after i put the aftermarket one on that i realised my engine note actually sounds pretty good. So not everyone who buys a BOV wants it for the sound. Alot of people buy them so they can get rid of the incredibly noisy standard one. Besides the standard one is now a handy paperweight on my desk that i couldnt do without. Red17
  21. Mayhem, You got measurements on the core? I know you put the can of pepsi there for size comparison... but measurments would be better Interested, but not sure about cash flow at the moment. Red17
  22. Is he mobile? Red17
  23. Alot of aftermarket clutches make some odd noises, sure its not normal? Red17
  24. Either of the above solutions also means you might need to upgrade to longer wheel studs as well. Red17
  25. 20mm caliper spacers? i hope your getting new rims because theres no way youd fit them behind a 35 offset wheel even if its 18 inches in size. Either that or you'll need to have custom wheel spacers put on as well. Red17
