  1. I dont want to cast aspersions on his alarm but I had one that wasnt up to the job fitted and it went off at random hours of the day. I lived in a quiet neighbourhood with my parents and in the end it had to stay off. My advice if you do get an aftermarket one done, get it fitted at an address other than your home (or where the car will be kept) and any paperwork, give someone elses address, pref another family member incase of warranty issues. Might be a bit OTT but better to be safe than sorry.
  2. Congrats mate. Dont take the dealer option for alarm IMO. Get an aftermarket pro one that people recommend. His price seems a bit cheap. Easiest thing to check for panel replacement is how flush the panels are with one another. Run your finger between the gaps and check the gap doesnt change width. Enjoy it though mate and it looks a very clean example.
  3. You want male and female pics? Dont know of any female 34 drivers in the club but I am sure some of the guys will post pics up. Adz start us off with the digger shot from grape grazing
  4. I also had some stupid quotes when I was 18 trying to insure my Escort xr3i in the UK which is just a 1.6i. 11,539pounds was the highest I was quoted for TP only!! Needless to say I didnt go with them but went with another company who quoted me 1,496pounds TP only. Both were on a car with a value of 1,100 pounds. Insurance is obsurd there.
  5. Hey mate, well done for making the switch. Mwahhhhhha - Doctor Evil laugh, soon the cosworths will rule SAU! Check the for sale section out on here Jay and use www.xe.com to give you a feel for the price of parts
  6. That link works for me mate, you definately left clicked it not right?
  7. ROFL! Had some at work today (doughnuts!). Don't know what type they were, possibly caramel with a glaze. The MD bought them in for us all.
  8. From my understanding very little will get you out of a rear end shunt where your car hits the one in front. Faulty brake lights, no signal etc are all deemed as you driving too close in all cases I have seen. Where one car shunts another and in turn another, again my understanding and experience (not personally) is each car that hit the one in front pays. So if I have read this correctly, you wouldnt pay for the damage to the pug but to the corolla. HTH
  9. Fair points and fantastic punch line
  10. Let me know if you are still short of space as I can pick some up from your place. The boot is like a tardis on this thing!
  11. Thanks Snows, Bec and JZ. Will have a chat Tues.
  12. Man if Shannons pay commission, you would be laughing all the way to the bank! (not that IMO you dont deserve it as how many insurance companies can you send a PM to and have a mod added )
  13. Leewang - judging by the completeness of that list, I would say you went home and looked along the shelf in your bedroom with the laptop in hand I have a Sega Mastersystem II and Megadrive set up in my apartment now with a draw full of games. They are all so cheap now! Scary thing is I used to pay the same for a Mastersystem game 11 years ago as I do for a 360 game today.
  14. Exactly right, my eyes ordinarilly are continuously scanning the road and mirrors as they should be. Since coming here I have accepted I will aquire points on my licence simply for this reason at some stage (still clean though my nothing short of a miracle I am sure). I have a fairly good feel for speed but that is still 5kph out on judgement on average I would say. With the road infrastructure here incorporating lots of right hand turns as well as left turns off higher speed roads, I find the need to be all the more aware than in the UK where higher speed roads only have left hand turns with long gaps between junctions. I have found I need to be even more alert to drivers jumping on the brakes to turn right and cars drifting accross lanes at the last minute yet I am told to watch my speedo. Unfortunately the speeding issue IMO is sending out the wrong message and is taking peoples eyes off of the road and onto the speedo to comply with the law and the message pushed into the face of the public. BTW - Agree with you Mav with citylink as I pass through it most days. Rather than merge safely which might mean gaining 5kph's to slot in without braking, I have to go 5kph slower to take into consideration the downhill gradient and the cameras. Has anyone else noticed the ripple effect from braking. A car could brake 10 mins ahead in a rush hour and every other driver will brake there until the rush has passed. I try to make an effort if safe to drop a gear here instead of braking to try and brake the chain for everyone.
  15. *double sighs* I can see that Wakefield offer their own type of licencing so no Cams required and I see an LS2 is required for Eastern Creek. However I dont see where I get an L2S from nor how much as per original post.
  16. I "may" be interested in going on track depending on what is required. Could someone put up a summary of what is needed in the first post please. Is it an L2S licence and if so costs for it please? Thanks in advance people
  17. I would also like to throw another spanner in the works with education. Tonight I drove down the Monash, well aware of operation Linekar or whatever it is. I found myself concentrating on the speedo more than the road. This point follows on from a discussion on another forum with a pom who has emigrated to Qld. In the UK we very much encourage road observation and in doing so, give a higher tolerance on speeding. Up to 10% + 3 mph. For example the legal limit on a motorway there is 70mph however most police (and I have never been pulled over there) are fine with up to 80mph. It keeps the traffic flowing and takes the fear out of people. Now I know this cannot happen here with the current standards on the roads but if I said to someone I was cruising at 105kph, I would get the look of death from them because of the speeding issue that has been drummed into the public. To me if I have been taught to use mirrors heavily and observe all around very frequently and dont get me wrong, I am not suggesting we derestrict the freeways by any means but someone could pull out to overtake someone and quite easily gain 5kph yet be booked for it. IMO this is an issue that needs to be addressed too. Eyes off the speedo and on the road.
  18. Whats the car and details? I cannot recommend Shannons highly enough. Matt from here has been superb so seeing as you are with them, I would stay. Actually upon re-reading, it is the guy Al is recommending above. My Evo is $1300 fully comp with 3 other named drivers and agreed value. Very happy indeed and no extra to pay by the month. I am Rating 1 protected.
  19. That funnily enough was the same thinking my parents had. I didnt own one figure throughout my childhood. Mates had entire WWF sets, He-man, Thundercats etc but I didnt. I just used to cycle or play football (soccer).
  20. *cough cleaned up, apologies from this corner. Man this coughing is contagious
  21. I only had lego or Technic to be precise. My bike was my friend, my old green Raleigh Grifter from when I was 8.
  22. Edited to say I am most looking forward to my new jacket without a name.
  23. LOL! yeah I knew what he meant mate as I have my name on a T-Shirt from my cycling club. Damn where is that man when you need him to read a post! BTW Dezz, I am almost as much of a post whore in this thread as you, I must have learnt from the best!
  24. Yeah mate, I will bring a texter so you dont lose it when you hang it up with the other coats at school! I think if someone ran off wearing your XS, it might be obvious it wasnt theirs and they could be subsequently aprehended!
  25. RIP to the young girl, such a waste and a tragic way to go. I had 45 lessons for before I got my licence which is 45 hours. I failed my test twice and passed third time. During those 45 hours over 4 months (which is very quick to go from never having been in a car to on the road solo), I was subject to very strict instruction in a variety of conditions with ONLY a professional instructor. My parents refused to take me out (we only had a suitable car during the last week of my learning anyway) as they wanted me to receive professional tuition. I also had a passion for cars and still do so I used to study up, observe etc. It scares me when I see wishy washy drivers cowering behind the wheel intimidated by other road users and by the same token cocky arrogant drivers with little or no experience. Some f'wit in a commonwhore yesterday as I was waiting to turn right, he was crossing the front of me from the left and had to wait for the traffic to clear, decided to do a huge burn out off down the road in front of numerous cars. Imagine if the wheels had found traction, where that would have sent him. My parents as sad as it seems, actually bought a car the same as the driving instructors one to make the transition as seamless as possible (possibly slightly OTT but I now thank them). BTW - Good works Hus. RBN1, powerful cars are not impossible to get out of shape in some of the weather conditions here in Melbourne, see GTRGeoffs posts about conditions. With the long dry spells this country experiences, there are often a lot times with a film on the road from oil and grease as soon as it rains. Also please note how he recognises he isnt invincible and made a mistake and I am sure will learn from it.
