  6. hi elboro; i guess there are already workshop threads, and as we've seen before discussing workshops can be a sensitive business. my point really was that there are prob a lot of workshops that can do the basic stuff, but when it comes to real in depth knowledge most fall short. thanks for the lead though.
  7. can we get back on topic please? this is not a GTSt vs GTR thread. as previously posted I've had no engine problems. however, maybe we see a lot of maint issues with GTRs because not many mechanics around really know them. i mean REALLY know them. i've been to a couple of the supposed better/more established ones in sydney and while they can build engines and diagnose stuffed afm etc (so can i), if i go to them with some little quirky problem they don't know enough about the car to fix it quickly and just go chasing the usual suspects. then i get the car back with a bill saying it's fine when i know damn well it's not. in many cases a thorough read of the manual the night before makes me better informed than they are, and this seems to be the case particularly where electrics are concerned. and there are quite a few of them of the GTR. i used to have a starion that was serviced by Kevin Bartlett's shop, in 90% of cases i'd say 'it's doing blah' and he'd say 'that's because...' and it really was. and although it is a less advanced car than the GTR it was pretty trick for its time. admittedly i've been stuffing with cars for 20 years but i still hope to find a professional out there who knows the GTR like KB knew the starion.
  8. put 38K km on my R32 in 2 years, stock except for exhaust. runs like a swiss watch. compression 4 psi max difference across all 6. mate down the road has R32 less km but also no problems. lots of people have been buying lots of $20K GTRs, take off dealer mark up etc and you're talking a very cheap car in Japan. do they really trash them? who knows but for example I wouldn't buy a Porsche turbo here for $20K as I know what I'd be getting. IMHO to some extent it was inevitable that the cheaper GTRs would unfortunately start grenading sooner or later but there are those that have also had no problems. either way when a car depreciates - here or in Japan - it becomes attainable for many who can't actually afford to maintain it. it happened to the Jensen Interceptor in the 80's and the Porsche 928 after that. i'm not sure there's been a 'cheap GTSt' phenomenon lkike the 'cheap GTR' one. Cheers
  9. putter past me she hosed you????
  10. Red R34 at Duntroon Roundabout, silver R34 4dr in Fyshwick at lunchtime.
  11. Heasman's are good - I drive about 350 km to get there - but make sure you get a firm quote before you commit. They are also not the fastest so whatever it is be preapred to leave the car there.
  12. Sorry to commit a minor hijack, but while we're on it may I ask what works best for a 4wd?
  13. Sorry to dig up an old thread, has anyone had luck with dyno testing either the Trust or CES long style dumps? Trevor at CES says he has access to a stock GTR with the long style dumps that the owner has OK'd him to dyno - problem is Trevor has been pleading 'no time' for about 4 months now. Regards
  14. are we talking about the same part here? the description I gave above doesn't require the rear 1/4 to be repainted. ps have you still got the rear 1/4 glass fs? Cheers
  15. Guys; most of us are aware of the crushed sill (not chassis rail) syndrome afflicting R32 GTRs - and maybe other models. I'm talking about the flattening of the spot welded vertical seam forward of the front jacking point, behind the front wheel arch. hope that makes sense. usually happens when the thing gets jacked, or lifted on a 2 post hoist, and just about every 32 GTR I've seen has had this happen. has anyone come up with a surefire way to fix it? i'm sick of having to tell people not to lift it on the sills - either they do it anyway or I spend the day wondering if they've taken notice. there's got to be a way of making a permanent professional repair. a search has revealed that others have had the same problem but not if a good repair was carried out. i haven't seen that section cut open to know if it's even really fixable - seems to have the robustness of an eggshell so maybe a couple of 'no jack' stickers is the best defence - for those that even look before they jack. any ideas? regards
  16. but does it have a stand alone fuel management system...
  17. so you're hanging on to the fluffy dice and the nodding dog then? damn...only things I wanted...
  18. just check the fault codes, it will tell you soon enough if it's the afm
  19. Guys/Gals; Please PM me if you have a stuffed AFM for a GTR or two, with a price reflective of their stuffedness. Not seeking anything utterly trashed, just ones that were on the car and stopped working ie normal pain in the butt AFM issues. Cheers
  20. I'm after 2 of these. If anyone has some, please PM with a price reflective of their 'stuffedness'. Not after anything trashed, just something that stopped working as per normal afm issues. Cheers
