hey kris..... did poptart get you for power/weght?

out of interest.. what suburb were you in when he got you.. and what car was he driving>?

-mark

his dad was driving the car, so power to weight wouldn't have been an issue

I dont wish to be a smart arse or anything, but from first hand experience pettet does read ns.com and sau forums. They found out all my mods from ns.com, where i had a for sale post. Everything i posted about my car they knew, so I'd say by know he knows you have a chipped ecu, which he'll tell epa, and they'll look for it. May sound far fetched but trust me it's not.

As much as the cops would like you to believe the epa and vicroads dont really give a shit when it comes down to it

Guys to my knowledge the EPA won't care about the hole made for the cooler......the epa stands for environmental protection agency ie they care about what co2 and crap is coming out of your exhaust so they are looking at induction/turbo/ecu basically any mod that changes the fuel/air ratio of your car.

However if you were canaried for the hole it might be a diff story.....

on that note, doesnt aftermarket ECU's allow you to lean your car out, as the factory ECU's are prone to running rich....wouldnt this make them better for the environment, or am i way off and should stop typing right now?

dezz...I had the exact arguement with the EPA years ago. Apparently the ECU manufacturer would have to get an approval from the EPA for each car it can be used on and it would have to demonstrate that it did indeed reduce emissions. As you can imagine that would cost a packet load as each ecu can be used on a variety of cars. Also the fact that they are all tunable would void that approval as the EPA would say that you can change it after it is approved and make it worse for the environment.

Oh and you can get an EPA arroval for your car in its current state (assuming the emission levels fall inside the range)

All you need to do is pay (rough figure) $3000-5000 and even then a cop can force you to do an emissions test to prove that you haven't changed it since then!!

Yeah its about $3000 I just couldn't remember. In other words the ECU manuf. would have to pay $3000 for every car that ecu can be used on. Take the PFC, or wolf they can almost be applied to every vehicle x that by 3k and you understand why they don't do it....

Its just a bastard that it is left up to the car owner but I guess we chose to do the mod :P

The reason a PFC wont pass is because its un-tested on that car, with those mods.

Hence why APS/Unichip pay for testing... which even then you can dodge if you know what your doing.

The emissions are often better, but the simple reason they wont pass if they can be changed as they are a free-tune ECU with no lock.

There are loads of requirements, not just the passing the test

    • Yea - I mean I've seen my fuel pump which is decades old and uh, while I'm not saying this with real knowledge... but I sure get the ick at using anything in the fuel system that produced the state of that pump. Many years ago I went through multiple pumps (and strainers) before I dropped the tank to clean it out with extreme violence. I'm talking the car would do maybe 50km before coming to a halt, which resulted in me cleaning out the filter with some brake cleaner and going on my way. None of my stuff ever looked like what came out of your fuel tank. I don't think I'd be happy with it unless every single component was replaced (or at least checked/cleaned/confirmed to be clean here).
    • I'm not going to recommend an EBC pad. I don't like them. Just about anything else would suit me better. I've been using Intima pads for a while now.
    • Agreed, and in particular the earth strap that should go from the subframe to the chassis but it often broken or left off. There is a section in the R32 workshop manual you can follow for troubleshooting if you don't see anything suspicious, and depending where you are (there is no location on your user profile) you should be able to get your hands on a second hand replacement unit still if needed
    • Yeah they mention as a R34 for 2.5 Turbo...but then again thos "small" were also for R34 by that different site. But i look into it and that 310mm EBC is for R34 GTT. And by those you linked the specs are the same 🙂    EDIT: I found these on one site here: DBA 4000 series T3 DBA42304S They are 310mm...and it says are for R34GTT...are there good? EDIT2: ok they have pads too.  What "color" should i get for street use? I dont want/need some noisy ones...(and if they are not that dusty that is good too)
    • Yeah, shame. Maybe  driver's carpet is available 🙏. I am waiting for both amayama and nangun to confirm.
