how did they hook it up ?

Who did it?

Had they done them b4?

And so the gear changes aren't harsh at all?

smooth as the standard ecu?

Sorry for all the questions, but this topic actually led me to converting to manual cause i didn't want to risk, getting the powerfc all put on and it going shithouse.

Have you upgraded your auto?

I ordered a new PFC from Greddy on here... "Thanks again Greddy"

and did the usual unplug standard ecu . install power fc start car and drive really nice...

i have a mv auto shift kit but other then that the auto is standard..

i would actually say it changes from third to overdrive smoother then the standard

ecu.. all in all it works perfectly...

Does the unit work on manual and auto cars?

The PowerFC only supports manual cars. It will work on an automatic car however it will not handle gear changes and simply keep the throttle nailed during a gear change. This will result in jerky gear changes and stress placed on the gearbox. The factory ECU during a gear change will communicate with the auto box and drop timing, ignition to ensure a smooth change. For those wishing to use PowerFC with auto you should consider a mechanical auto gearbox instead of an electronic. The PowerFC should work fine with a mechanical gearbox such as power glide, transbreak etc

I'll give it two weeks at the power level before you kill it

the auto powerfc in fact lets you see what gear you are in on the hand controller under monitor, lets you see the the gearbox torque conveter and you can change the gear up and down km/h mappings

not trying to be harsh paul but have you ever tried it yourself?

4doorsleeper has had a PFC in his auto S1 R33 for ages and his Trans still works

There is a lot of people that have said it wont work but how many of you have ever tried it?

Is it just the series 1 33 that will work and not the series 2?

Not sure but i know that my car works fine.. it up shifts when it should, it down shifts when it should, kicks back when it should, so whats the prob?

Speaking with mike from MV automatics, he seams to think the 33 auto are just as strong as the vl turbo auto, but if rebuilt with a few good bits inside then there bullet proof to well over 300 kw at the wheels...

it WILL work

the car WILL run and START

the car WILL drive and accelerate

the gear changes WILL NOT be the same as the standard ECU

it WILL place extra stress on the gearbox during gearchanges as the timing is not backed off

it has nothing to do with series 1 or 2. switching to a vl turbo box would be ideal as its a mechanical box and not electronic like the r33 one (ie: it doesnt need signals from the ECU to change)

a stupid question..

if the vl jatco and the r33 jatco have similar gears, and strength . Then why will the 33 auto shit itself, and not the vl? in theory it will be changing exactly the same as the vl box?

but thats what im saying to you.. its not harsh at all.. it changes sweet...

the PFC only turned up this morning so its not tuned as such, but i went for a easy cruise up and around mclaren flat, just to make sure it would work fine and it did.

im waiting for my new injectors and AFM to turn up before i get a tune..

have you done any tuning to the ecu yet or is just out of the box.

I to have done a few without any long term problems with the only differance being shift just like a shift kitted auto.

First car was about 4 years ago running mid 300rwhp and its still working fine.

Up to you if you try but i would still fit an ECU to my own car .

    • I dunno about that as a blanket statement. Pitwork is Nissan's "Nissan genuine" thing, and for stuff like timing belts, I have found them to be excellent. Of course, for things like oil filters, you always use proper trusted brands anyway, not whatever the OEM has taken to using.
    • Ahhhh... If you were putting 12V to the led in there, that's likely made it very unhappy. Chances are how you put power, was 12V across an LED that's meant to only have about 20mA through it at peak, and a forward voltage of about 1.8 to 2.4 volts. That circuit is likely only a 3V3 circuit, and will have a resistor in series with the led too. That's my guesstimate on that light, without having touched one.
    • Another vote for installing them and see how you go.  I mean, you already own them, why would you not fit them? 
    • I have had too many of those over the years, my cars have a toolkit or at minimum a cheapy multi tool thing because its too easy to be snookered by some stupid plastic clip that stops you checking the battery terminal isn't loose.
    • Basically, if there is a part# on the nissan catalogue, it is a genuine part. There is a thing called "new old stock" which is stuff made years ago but never sold (or landfilled), but it is super hit and miss what you can buy. Other than some expensive Nismo stuff there is nothing new being made that suits these cars. The only time to be a little careful is (mostly in the US I think, but maybe Japan too), Nissan started rebranding some cheap crap maintenance parts like oil filters as "Pitworks"; stay away from them, if you are buying cheap just buy whatever the local car parts shop carries The three part numbers have an explanation on Amayama: 0V005 is auto, base style 0V015 is manual 0V505 is auto, hectic momo branded ones, maximum F&F points there!
