I was actually thinking about that too. A sard rail (like the one you have) doesnt seem terribly expensive, and probably a good idea ?

yer they are about $400 i think for the sard one, and then u will need a fuel reg as well, around another $300ish i think (rough prices). dont wanna starve a 25k crate motor anytime soon

sump is also stock, worth an upgrade for sure.

Well, from what I can make out the Genesis doesn't come with any fuel rail at all; those ancilliaries are up to the end user to choose (the pictured engine a few posts ago is the Derive). Also the sump, whilst the OEM item, runs the Tomei baffle plates. See here*

* Note that its for the 2.6l variety of engines

Nah it wont be coming over anymore. TommyK has gone all old and boring, he has bought a house and is right at this second (im on the phone to him) is at the auctions looking to buy a falcon on gas.. auto.

  • 1 year later...

Probably just reiterating what every one else said but just had a 2.8 stroker built using an new N1 block ( fully prepped) using all the same parts as a tomei derive 2.8 with 270/10.8 pro cams and ati pulley

Trust T517z 8.0cm dumps .Have only just run it in so will be interesting to see how it goes at 1.5bar.

What I am saying is you would be better off getting it built here - Quality is second to none. Better off for comeback also!

Bit hard if you had a problem but Tomei engines are also high end stuff - also if you add some optional extras like mine it would cost a lot more for the same thing from Japan .

Lots of good engine builders in Australia - its not rocket science.

Thats my 2c

Cheers

GTAuto Garage in Brisbane did all the modifications to a very high professional standard.

Highly recommend them to anyone thats requires top notch work.

Would now not ever go anywhere else.

Alex,Dave,Dave and Tim are great guys to do business with.

Bringing back a very dead topic here, but as Tomei have the series 2 Genesis engine out now has anyone bought one or had any experiences with one? Basically they are more revised now and include virtually everything for a bolt in application, sump and all! RRP is $37,000 but RHD Japan have them for $19,500 delivered. I added up the cost of buying the individual parts included and came up with over $20,000 not including ANY labour for assembly.

Have you worked out the difference between the Series 1 and 2? There was a thread in GTROC and one of the photo's had a Tomei 2.8 photo. From what I can gather the difference is the crank.... I dont know what the differencees are. I have a Series 1 Tomei motor in mine and no problems.

Differences are:

conrods

crank

camshafts,

L19 rod bolts

Tomei head bolts/washers

Tomei main cap bolts

Tomei oil gallery orifice

Tomei timing belt

Tomei oversized oil pan with baffle

Tomei oversized oil pump

comes with spark plugs and Nismo thermostat.

So there are quite a few differences between the two, virtually every fastener is an upgraded item.

Yep Australian dollars. I think there might be a Tax or Tariff on it too, but i have bought goods to the value of $4000 from Japan and never got any extra taxed amount on it like your "supposed " to on any item/s over $1000.

^ aren't you lucky. Does not mean you'll be lucky again.

Especially considering it's not exactly small :(

It does not say specically that it is free to Australia - it says to check first.

Have you checked?

Also something else to think about, i remember a thread here or on another forum about a OS 3ltr that was purchased.

It was pulled down over here and found to be rather "average" in its assembly. So it was basically stripped and reassembled/rebuilt once it got over here.

Something else to think about.

I have a customer with a short on the way to his engine builder, should be real interesting. He went a bit crazy, Greddy T88GK, APEXI V-max spl (10000rpm kit) head kit (290degree 11.5 lift) full cnc porting etc... i cant wait to tune it ;)

Im not trying to say i will get away with no tax, i havn't had much experience with buying from overseas, so i was more enquiring to anyone who has.

It wouldn't surprise me that the OS kit was second rate, it looks it just to look at! But to assume a Tomei engine could be the same is silly. They have a reputation much like Cosworth with their engines, so if one were to fail prematurely it wouldn't go down well.

I do believe that even for $25,000 the Tomei engine is a good deal. I havn't seen any other "turnkey" engine that looks as good (to me) for similar price. If you had an engine built with same quality parts i'd bet it will cost over 25g. I stopped building a WRX engine when it was getting towards the $20,000 mark...

OS is a "lesser" company and/or quality than Tomei?

Rightyo

Either way, i'd be budgeting to have it pulled down and checked regardless.

I agree with ash here. For the money you have spent, whats a little more to get everything checked.

I wish I had done it when my supposed BIG engine arrived here (albeit already in the car)

I think Dirt had a new Tomei 2.8ltr crank that he had to re-balance recently as it was all wrong.

May want to shoot him a PM to confirm

So if i buy a motor from Lewis engines or Godzilla motorsports i should get it pulled down and checked if it was done correctly.. Im sorry i have never heard anything so ridiculous! Most engine failures are caused by bad tunes not bad engineering.

    • Does it also misfire equally when revving?   Josh is very correct in what you should do. The coilpack harness wiring loom itself is a known problem due to its age and the number of heat cycles it has gone through. Throwing parts at a vehicle to diagnose the issue isn't a smart or good way to do it. Secondly, you may have a bad coil pack, you pop replacements in, they fix that issue, but messing with the harness breaks it, so the issue persists. So now you think "well it wasn't the coil packs" and have to continue chasing your tail, potentially swapping back in your shit coil packs and returning the good ones (yes, I've seen people do this because 'it wasn't the problem' and they want to save money). And suddenly, you've got two issues with the same symptoms...   Diagnose, don't use the spare parts shotgun.
