Howdy,

Well after the fun & excitment of buying up big for performance parts over the weekend,

FMIC

Oil Cooler / relocation

2 x Recaro's

Coilpacks

Coilovers

5 Stud conversion

BOV

3 x Gauges

& the all importnat Drift Button

I have confirmed the bad news that the RB20 is fcuk'd. White smoke galore pouring out of the car..... by by compression etc....

SO........

Am looking at replacing with RB25 & gearbox :D:D

SR20 is out due to all the bits & pieces bought only suitable for RB engines

Was wondering if anyone who has done or got the RB25 conversion, can help out with info / costing for the whole shidizzle.

Not sure whether to just buy a front cut or just the engine & gearbox.....

Is it worth while trying to source out a NEO RB25 etc....

Where to source engines from......

Any info / help would be greatly appreciated....

Ando, i dont think the NEO is worth it.

Your best option would either be to grab a series 1 R33 GTS-T front cut, or rip out the RB20 and build it tough. If you look around you could pickup the parts at decent prices and then you are only looking at labour to remove, machine, reassemble and refit etc.

Nick - Much appreciate the info & thanks heaps for all your assitance with info / pricing for the weekend! YOUR A CHAMP!!

Yeah the NEO not worth it unless i can source a good deal.

Am thinking about replacing the RB20 for RB25 100% and rebuilding the RB20 myself as a little 'Learning Project'.

Suppose just gotta hunt around and see what pops up!

Cheers!

Hi I got a R33 95 model Front cut for sale or can sell you the engine and gearbox only interest call 0433347376 i am in brisbane

Been there, done that (RB25DET into R32 GTS4).

RB25DET certainly worth the effort. I did just an engine upgrade, and aftermarket ECU (Wolf). But I would recommend a half-cut, particulary if the RB25 has VVT.

Yeah a lot off ppl saying just rebuild the RB20 again, but I also used to own a R33 GTST and do notice a difference in the RB25. Am considering a few options but more than likely RB25DET w/gearbox and a PFC.

Mr Eps - Um I'll leave those bogan engines to the um...well bogan transporters....

Konect - Champ, it still runs, sort of, but blows a crap load of smoke and has next to no power off boost. It did start blowing the smoke a month or so ago but not as much.....i think the engine is just slowly letting go.....

Replicate - RB30 bottom 25 head...... would be nice but too much $$$$$

RB20 head works too :whoops:

Kinda just...

Id seriously look in to the RB30det deal. A number of guys are running standard VL bottom end with just the head on and a resonable size turbo and getting good figures. They are near on a square block so it should be fine. Just double check all the pricing first hey.

BTW, if you do do it, film the WHOLE process, then give me a copy of the tape :O

I've been looking into this and i reckon it can be done for pretty much the same money as a RB25 swap. As dangerous_daveo said, you can just run the stock bottom end. A few are doing this already. Then get your R32 RB25de head and stiffer valve springs plus all your gaskets and belts etc. Then pay a good engine builder to put it together for you. The best thing is you can use a lot of your RB20 gear at first to keep the costs down. Use the RB20 gearbox, clutch and flywheel (eventually u will need to upgrade it). You can use the stock turbo, inlet and exhaust manifold. You can even run your stock injectors and ECU. And it should even work with the Ceffy loom as your using an R32 head.

Then a bit later get a power fc, RB25 gearbox, GTR injectors and decent sized turbo. Then have fun with your 300rwkw and make extra money on the weekends towing houses with the torque.

Natually what i've stated is very simplified and there will be other costs, but it should give you some idea. I just reckon that RB25s are quite expensive to start with. Aren't they at least $3k for a front cut?

Ando. Bugger.

Sell all your communist shit and get a SR20.

Do NOT rebuild the rb20 for the cef - what a waste of time.

SR, 25 or 25/30 are your only options

Neo not worth it, plus more people are running around with the non-neo rb25 so spares that are different between the two engines will be easier to source.

Just remember if you're going to get a half cut there's no guarantees that the rb25 won't go pop - so that'd be my worry. I kinda knew one day this would be happening when you bought that car but I just figured it would be earlier than now.. I think you've done well to have the engine start/run this far :O

I vote for rb25 if you wanna keep your bits. It's a well proven setup and you can checkout dave's car if he's keen to see where stuff is should you need it. Run around even with the stock turbo and boost up I reckon you'll be laughin..

Otherwise stock rb30 head, I think without forgies and stuff people run 250rwkw easy and there should truckloads of torque. Good drifting - well worth to checkout I reckon. Look through Cubes'/Joel's pdf file.

Let us know what ya end up doin .. when ya know where ya gonna build it lemme know I'll come around and help ya dissassemble :)

Heya Dude (Tom)

Mate yeah i agree, from day one knew it was gonna be an engine swap but hey glad it has seen out almost 10 months.

SR20...meh no thanks :O Pretty happy with going down the RB25 avenue. As for NEO, as i look more into it, seems its not worth the extra $$$$ and extra 40kw or so.

Will keep you posted as to when and where doing all the work :)

So ur keeping ur ceffie now lol!!!

PS where is this pdf ur talking about for joel etc....any chance of a linky???

Cheers dude

You want to come to qld for a short holiday? I'll swap ya while your up here. You can keep the gearbox, clutch and rsm. I'll even throw in accomodation!

PS. accomodation would be my sisters old room, you would have to cook a minium of 1 nite a week otherwise my Ps would crack it and throw you outside.

hope you drive a ceffy - this is what i did with mine..

r32 gts RB25DE 47000Kms + T70 Turbo-

buy a bare rb25de and swap it entirely with the setup oif the rb20.

bolts directly to the ecu and harness etc. take all the ancileries form one and swap to the other. bolt all your turbo and cooler bits fron the rb20 on and you got yourself a really cheap and powerful rb25 with comp. of 9.5:1, not bad considering r33 rb25de has 10.5:1 and the rb25det has 9:1.

i have obviously gone a step further and have a very naught cefiro

answers to your questions

1. Dr_Drift has got my whole package running perfectly (woot), no detonation - good fuelling, timing and igniiton

2. price: bare engine in good condition under 70000kms $500 - $700. these tend to come with auto and it is not turbo, so chances are most of the engines are in above average condition. installation - you and a mate a weekend or $800 - $1500 depending with mechanic

3. the reason i am smiling at the moment is that cefzla has 250rwkw and 750nm - and it is not done with tuning yet - should get it tomoz - woot woot

good luck on you endevoures

shaun

Sky80 - Mate if i had $7K available I would consider the offer :) Also the RB26DETT is getting a little front heavy for drift purposes.... I know there is a couple driftin RB26 ceffies but just the cost of maintainging that engine is twice the amount!

Shaunr32 - Yeah i got a ceffie. I am a lazy prick so i cant be F'd going down that avenue. Rather pay a little extra and get a whole engine / gearbox package. Rip out, put in....easy as pie.

    • If I had "perfect R33 GTR" kinda money I would have bought one of the crazy expensive low mileage HJA cars, but I am sadly not that wealthy. I already picked this car out of various Skylines for sale locally, most of which were worse in some way. Only a few cars were actually better but also more expensive. In terms of buying a motor locally, I at least have the option to inspect it myself and juding the seller as a person, and used or freshly rebuilt engines that some people sell are actually ok price-wise. I knew the car was going to require work, but shit piled up real fast and I haven't even driven 1000km yet as the turbo started oiling like a bitch within a few weeks after I got the car.   I assume it wasn't actually me who cracked it, though there is no way to know when that crack formed and if the previous owner even knew it was there. Buying another 05U Block can be a gamble, yeah, but the cheapest PRP cast block is like twice or more money-wise, and billet is 3 or 3 times as much. For now I am most likely just keeping the current engine, as a rebuild or engine swap isn't happening right now. But I am seriously considering buying a second engine and selling mine in return. Might be a sweet deal at the end.
    • Hi all. I need some help buying the correct size banjo bolts for my 2860 turbos. Because whoever installed them tore up the original part, I ordered new ones of this kind, because I just figured these were the most leak-resistant option as I already had trouble with a shitty braided line. I need to know the thread size of the smaller left hole, that is the turbo oil feed connection. I found out so far that the turbo oil inlet apparently has a 7/16"-24 thread, but I cannot find any listing or description of the thread size on this line. I do not have the original bolts. I tried using the bolts that were in the turbos (the ones that were mounted with the shitty braided line) but they sit very loosely so they can't be the right thread. Means either these bolts are the wrong ones (how do they fit the turbo then? no clue) or the wraparound-lines have a different thread than the turbo oil feed itself. Help is appreciated, asking Nissan directly is obviously not going to work.
    • EDIT: PSA to whoever stumbles upon this thread. It is in fact a crack in the block that caused this concern. Just letting you know. In my case, a few cm long hairline crack going horizontally above the turbo oil feed. Classic RB shit I guess
    • Might as well pop in some cams, head gasket, head studs, and a flex sensor. Full send.
