i know a lot of you skyline guys run wide tyres on the back. where do u get them from? bob jane's and good year places etc always charge too much, looking for something decent for a good price. not interested in any chinese made crap though. looking to spend about $500 max for the pair.

Thanks,

Julian.

I found Bob Jane, Watergardens (Taylors Lakes), one of the cheapest places. I purchased my Hankook K107s for $320ea and that's in 19", so i dare say that 17" would easily fall under the $250ea mark. I have been using Hankooks for the last 4yrs and found them to be a great cheapish tyre.

ey paul, u mite wanna tell them what the price was

hehe

well i think 17x45x255 will cost u roughly 250 dollars, seeing as the prices i was getting for 18x35x255 were like 290 for the hankook k104's

not a supreme performance tyre, u can get heaps better, but they are awesome bang for buck

Id say WaterGardens also, ive heard nothing but good things. But in my opinion the best is Tempe Tyres(in syd).

I got my 2xFalken Ziex 235/35/19 (Dunno if Falken is made in Chinabar though?) for $250each delivered to my door, maybe give them a go next time al, totally worth it! Got Bob Jane WaterGardens to fit them for me though.

Actually today i just got 2 second hand tyres EXACTLY the same as your after for $160 but that was at TyrePower Scumshine and for remoulds plus icluded in that price was to change my 18s back to the 17s in which the 2 tyres where fitted. :/

hay julzy

i know people dont like them but i find the nankangs ns2s are great and i can get a set for 350 of 255 45 r17s from a place in dany who brings them in

yeah i was going to buy the 4 255/45/17 nankang ns2's on ebay for $750 and sell the other 2. but decided to get something better for the rears. i'll give tyrepower in blacky a go, and also call these watergardens ppl up.

Thanks for the replies.

You can get almost new 255s for cheappppp. Segginhand tyres. Adrian rd Campbellfield. Hankook honestly are crap I reckon.

If your adament about new tyres, I have to say, go for Federal 535s. Grippy, long wearing and all round great tyre. Ive run many 12 second passes with them. And for 17s I remember paying around 165 dollars each. Try Fawkner Tyres on sydney road I know there a federal Stockist.

Regards

Kim

I've found my Ventus K104s to be great tyres.

They last ages and they really do grip quite well.

My fronts have seen me through 26 laps at Winton on full noise, four DECA days, and about 15000klms and they are still in top condition.

The rears however, are a different story, but I have smoked them up heaps at Calder, DECA and the like.

I'm about to buy another set.

Julzy you shud be happy with the federals ive used both the 595 and 535 for years and they are a great tyre. Theo woolets GTR runs 9s on the 595s, is that enough cred or what?

what about when it rains?

    • I wasn’t able to replicate the sound anymore. It was a one time sound so maybe it was just coincidence but it was like small pebbles being dropped in a coke can.   should I try cleaning the MAF? It could be it’s functioning but dirty? I don’t know.
    • Update 4: Hi all. The car drives again! Haven't driven for long, only to store it in the garage again, but the test drive was successful. The coolant and oil leaks seem to be fixed for now. Temps on the engine were also very good, while moving I never even saw 80C water during the approx. 30 minute drive. Ate up all the coolant in the reservoir though so will have to fill that even more when I go to the car next time. One thing that pisses me off is that the RPM gauge is still f**ked, I even resoldered the board twice and used copper paste on the silly screws that are used as connections. Next time I take it out I'll take apart the board and fit new components, I'll see if I can get a replacement IC for it.  I have an appointment set for 22nd of September for the engine tune to 370hp. Alignment also still needs to be done. My hope is that I can get all the legal stuff over with by the end of this season. Anyone of you have advice regarding intercoolers? Currently there is an APEXI core fitted, one of those weird hybrid ones, 600x270x76. I don't think it's bad but it's not new and now I still have the chance to change it now to legally include it in the paperwork. Only issue is that the only options that would arrive in time are a HKS Type R intercooler or generic Ebay spec intercoolers comparable to a JustJap one. Ideally I'd order a Plazmaman but it takes over a month to receive which would mean making the car legal has to wait until next season. Would love to hear some input on this. Same story for my injectors, the previous owner was a nunce and put ID 1050x on the engine. They work but are obviously not ideal at "normal" power levels. But I don't see a reason to change them unless the tuner says it's necessary. I read online before buying a different exhaust that the top secret style rear diffusers won't fit due to the size of the rear resonators. My buddy and I made it work by slightly "adjusting the shape" of the mounting bracket and making some spacers out of 3d print for the mounting bolts. Fits like a charm. Just putting this here in case someone has this problem. Even the hefty HKS Silent Hi Power rear can fits without hitting anything.
    • Well they got my money but they are not getting my gearbox !
    • It's needed for rolling idle up, and I think it is a decider on VCT also.
    • I mean, not really. Link ECU's can absolutely still have errors from the ECU thinking it's getting a sensor it's not expecting. I would imagine the speed at the ECU level in Nistune does absolutely nothing anyway? I assume the ECU does not do any fancy TC stuff with regards to front+rear wheel speed or anything of that like anyway. Someone who uses Nistune may be more fluent in it.
