vnice - sounds a LOT like the system I am about to build my brother-in-law, but we are going 2 x 36Gb 10,000 Raptors in a Raid 0 array, 2Gb OCZ 800, a Coolermaster iGreen 600W psu (for near-silence), ASUS M2N32 SLi Deluxe (silent heatpipe technology), and we have decided to go a 5600+ X2 instead of a 6000+, as the 5700+ is 89w, and the 6000+ 125w (until the revised version comes out later this year). There is under 10% performance difference between the 2.

Sounds like a bloody awesome system either way!

umm.. i'd avoid thermaltake stuff, but if you like the looks... just get a diff psu

if you can afford a core 2 from intel (with the latest price drop they are awsome) get it!!! they rock, slap amd all over the place

212s have issues on some controllers

please buy at least an XFX graphics card.. not msi =(

strongly re-consider vista.. its got problems

besides from that.... lol, system looks awsome ;)

Im using thermaltake atm and thave not had an issue with their PSU or cases, however this system will be alot higher spec than last so i might look into a different PSU. Bad experience?

Everyone on the AMD boat seems to have jumped overboard and been picked up by the Intel one... Am i missing something here? This will be a gaming rig only.

Hmmmmmmm well the choices i have are.... MSI, Leadtek, ASUS and Gigabyte

Im running Vista at the moment and have had no issues what so ever in compatibility, and im reasonably happy with it. But wtf is with the support to run on 3.5GB or ram!?!? But everywhere u go its recommended to run 4gb or people say that. GG MS

lan @ skippys work ;)

Im down! lol

Its because at the moment the C2D shits on the Athlon. My C2D 6600 2.4ghz runs at 3.2ghz with the standard fan on 1500rpm. Its dead silent and barely tops 62c on full load, completely stable as well. At those speeds it is still alot faster then the AMD 6000.

Hmmmmmm and im assuming its similar in price as well?

Most things i have seen dont really show much differance in performance stock for stock as im still VERY nub on OCing

EDIT: $15-20 by the looks of things.

Yuh LAN possible prob getting another 2 pcs soon and still trying to iron out BF2 bugs, dual core machines dont like it

my guess is Madgt4 shops at msy so the 8800gtx only comes in MSI at the moment from wot ive seen

i can do good prices 5% on games most game shops have 20-30% im at brighton so prob no good to most

funny video kinda felt like me there for while

Only for the video card...

If you can find a 8800GTX for under 900 locally can you let me know please... I mean that genuinely too... Obviously apart from MSY.

All the rest of my parts are coming from a friend that owns his own business.

Antec.

I had thermaltake, case looked brilliant, but the PSU left much to be desired..

Got a TruePower2 Antec PSU and a Antec 900 advanced gaming case, fitting a thermaltake Bigwater 745 to the cpu and vid soon.

There is nothing wrong with thermaltake stuff at all. be prepared to pay more for the better stuff that research and development went into. and no you wont have any issues with thermaltake products unless you are stupid.

cool, im thinking about the GTX but i have this thing with first generation hardware.... like what happens when the 8900 comes out

and its the same as a 8800 in terms of pricing when all the prices get reduced... ill wait 2 months. I got a 7950GX2 and it pwns anything DX9 currently so I am happy with it.

Yeah ive been reading that the 8900GTX ALLEDGELY has 1024mb ram, so that coupled with DX10 and Crysis when it finally hits the shelves would be a decent combo.

But at the same time ive been reading the new ATi cards have a soundcard build in with full HD sound and video support. Pretty soon i think there will be some competition back in the market of video cards.

I'd be guessing AMD will release their new range of processors with the new ATi cards... Only a guess but it would seem the best thing to do.

i'd wait for the new ATi's personally. Better performance and supposedly cheaper.

I also heard they have onboard sound and physics processing as well.

As for 8800GTX, you could try Allneeds.

    • Hi all,   long time listener, first time caller   i was wondering if anyone can help me identify a transistor on the climate control unit board that decided to fry itself   I've circled it in the attached photo   any help would be appreciated
    • I mean, I got two VASS engineers to refuse to cert my own coilovers stating those very laws. Appendix B makes it pretty clear what it considers 'Variable Suspension' to be. In my lived experience they can't certify something that isn't actually in the list as something that requires certification. In the VASS engineering checklist they have to complete (LS3/NCOP11) and sign on there is nothing there. All the references inside NCOP11 state that if it's variable by the driver that height needs to maintain 100mm while the car is in motion. It states the car is lowered lowering blocks and other types of things are acceptable. Dialling out a shock is about as 'user adjustable' as changing any other suspension component lol. I wanted to have it signed off to dissuade HWP and RWC testers to state the suspension is legal to avoid having this discussion with them. The real problem is that Police and RWC/Pink/Blue slip people will say it needs engineering, and the engineers will state it doesn't need engineering. It is hugely irritating when aforementioned people get all "i know the rules mate feck off" when they don't, and the actual engineers are pleasant as all hell and do know the rules. Cars failing RWC for things that aren't listed in the RWC requirements is another thing here entirely!
    • I don't. I mean, mine's not a GTR, but it is a 32 with a lot of GTR stuff on it. But regardless, I typically buy from local suppliers. Getting stuff from Japan is seldom worth the pain. Buying from RHDJapan usually ends up in the final total of your basket being about double what you thought it would be, after all the bullshit fees and such are added on.
    • The hydrocarbon component of E10 can be shittier, and is in fact, shittier, than that used in normal 91RON fuel. That's because the octane boost provided by the ethanol allows them to use stuff that doesn't make the grade without the help. The 1c/L saving typically available on E10 is going to be massively overridden by the increased consumption caused by the ethanol and the crappier HC (ie the HCs will be less dense, meaning that there will definitely be less energy per unit volume than for more dense HCs). That is one of the reasons why P98 will return better fuel consumption than 91 does, even with the ignition timing completely fixed. There is more energy per unit volume because the HCs used in 98 are higher density than in the lawnmower fuel.
    • No, I'd suggest that that is the checklist for pneumatic/hydraulic adjustable systems. I would say, based on my years of reading and complying with Australian Standards and similar regulations, that the narrow interpretation of Clause 3.2 b would be the preferred/expected/intended one, by the author, and those using the standard. Wishful thinking need not apply.
