Will make the jump to SSD the moment they sort the fragmentation issues out.

Huh?

SSD's by nature do not fragment. Or more specifically, any fragmentation that occurs has absolutely no bearing on performance since there is no moving read/write head and data access is as fast as the bus allows. The only issue with SSD's is a) write speed and b) block levelling algorithms... write speed is getting better and the block levelling is getting to the point where ssd's are having a projected 20 year lifespan with the assumption that you write a lot. Got an upgraded SSD in my EEE (fast one to replace the slow one) and it kicks arse...

very very angry at MSY

ordered a 2079$ build etc, paid for it, rang yesterday and they tell me that they wont sell the i7 unless I do a full system build, fk that I say Ive got a 500$ case, get fk'd! etc etc

was quite irate, ended up having to order the i7 off the net (i-tech), sent a chq off so now an extra (up to) 2week wait.

picked up the goods from MSY and had a shot at them for jipping me (would have paid for it all elsewhere) due to the non-selling i7 (although I got a quote sunday, then again requote on monday, an proforma invoice sent, paid immediately with chq).

Everything ordered and paid for then they tell me to pay more for a system build or get stuffed. geez

so, after having a shot at em again they tell me theyve changed the rules just now and i can have the i7. Pity I ordered elsewhere already.

gah. nothing worse than having good pc gear ready to build and set up (do it in my sleep) but cant 'cause of the supplier.

pisses yah hey.

WTF? Can't say I've ever heard of any retailer ever refusing to sell anyone anything..... It's a CPU ffs!

shit thats a first to hear tangles

normally MSY will sell just about anything no matter if it will work with the rest of the stuff you got or not

its absolute bullshit IMHO

did everything right and in the correct business manner, and get dicked around like that

crazy

never mind.

setup the Antec TPQ 1000 psu and the Acer 24" B243W HD 1900x1200 lcd screen, very nice.

looks like I have a buyer for the spare pc gear so thats good (19" lcd, p5e, q6600, 4gb ram, 850w psu)

itching to setup the x58 mobo when i get the i7 chip.... but thanks to MSY that'll be another 10days away. *sigh*

never mind, you cant win them all, BUT - I reckon thats against fair trading, to advertise a product no conditions, invoice and sell the product, then place restrictions and conditions after point of sale

;)

i absolutely hate the waiting game

specially when all your missing is one stupid thing lol

Especially when that one thing is the most important part to a computer...

Different topic,

I just picked up one of these to transfer my animes off my 500 & 320 HDDs :D .

Also I want to transfer my OS install from my other WD 500GB to my other Samsung 1TB without having to reinstall all my sh*t again. Anyone know of any free HDD imaging software? or do I have to go underground with BT on the major imaging softwares? ;)

One word "Ghost" I loath norton products with a passion but when I can install a room of 50pc's in under 10mins I can't really complain. probaby the only good product they made.

+1 for Ghost

maybe also try acronis true image.

I use norton ghost at home. I install windows, install drivers, activate, windows updates, then image. That way i have a clean copy of windows that is reasonable up to date, so if anything turns south, bam its back without the hassle in about 10 minutes.

SSD's at this point in time are not good work drives.

Issues with sector remap fragmentation degrades the drives performance over time.

At this point in time the only way to fix is to wipe the drive and start from scratch again.

Intel are drawing very close to solving the problem so it should be too long.

Great for a lightly used laptop but definitely not suitable for a workhorse just yet. :P

That applies to the Intel X25 only. There are many other types of SSD, intel do not have the monopoly on them, nor are they to be considered competent in SSD technology. No other SSD has issues with 'sector remap fragmentation'. I have a runcore SSD in my EEE and they do not suffer from any said problem.

Intel != all ssd's. TBH it sounds like you're just repeating what you've read from slashdot or arstechnica.

huh, I just went to download the latest version of Firefox on my new PC & it's asking whether I want "English British" or "English US"???

Which one have you guys got?

English US, as we use a US style keyboard (dollars instead of pounds)
