PLEEZN
my car has a strange idle problem. it will idle too high sometimes and other times it will idle fine. it does it either hot or cold. usually it idles around 900rpm but now idles around 1200rpm. i havent done anything to the engine recently. ive tryed adjusting the idle screw but makes no difference. does anyone know what could cause this? i know the computer or o2 sensor can cause idle problems. If anyone has any ideas to leed me in the right direction they would be greatly appreciatted! lebostyles
my mate had a similar problem on his ca18det and we adjusted the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) and it was perfect Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/109270-r32-idling-too-high/#findComment-2013149 Share on other sites
legend01
My sons 89 model r32 had the same problem found it to be the fast idle vacuum, its under the throttle body just to the back of it .If you follow the hose that runs m your crossover pipe s the hose that runs at 90degrees from it to under the throttle body 2 bolts hold it onand an electrical connection . Once you have it off there's 4 screws hold the backing plate on ,you have to take it of and once you have you will see a black round disk that has small amounts of carbon build up on it you have to clean this of with carbie cleaner was the best i found to do it .there is a samll return spring in there be carfull not to lose this as it the return spring for the fast idle not very strong the carbon build up on the plate wont allow this spring to turn fast idle off returns it slow if at all . I found the cure on this forum if you can find it he has putures there to help you Cheers Peter Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/109270-r32-idling-too-high/#findComment-2019400 Share on other sites
ellie
Had this when I first bought my car and i found it to be the tps was adjusted wrong = To just off idle so the computer never gets the signal that its now idling Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/109270-r32-idling-too-high/#findComment-2019624 Share on other sites
Oblivion
i'd be warry about the tps..cause it is electric ...try cleaning out the idle vaccum in that black square..and also the brass cylinder on the back of the plenum...2 screws...make sure you dont lose the bits...lots of carbon build up there...carby clean put in back in should be good cant hurt it. also could be you afm...becareful if it starts stalling....i would guess it be that. Sarumatix
Ahh i'm having exactly this problem, the engine also sounds quite rough at low revs with regular pops in the exhaust. It used to idle perfectly at 800rpm. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/109270-r32-idling-too-high/#findComment-2043824 Share on other sites
N I B
Is it a GTR or S? If its an R then its prolly throttle body gaskets. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/109270-r32-idling-too-high/#findComment-2043852 Share on other sites
SLIPPERY
Is it a GTR or S? If its an R then its prolly throttle body gaskets. steve, is there an AAC valve on the GTR plenum? or even idle adjustment screw? i guess the AAC would be underneath if there is cause i cant seem to find it. mine idles at 1500 on stock ecu Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/109270-r32-idling-too-high/#findComment-2043861 Share on other sites
N I B
Yes there is,its under the plenum with the screw pointing to the front and its easy to get a screw driver on.Basicly above the oil filter. 1500rpm will be the gaskets from the throttles to lower manifold so check for that. Sarumatix
Ohhhh gaskets, there isn't really an easy way to check that is there? I guess I might as well just fork out for a new gasket how much am I looking at? I will have a look at the TPS on monday and if i'm not happy i'll probably do the gasket as I really want my yummy idle back . Incidently it's an R32 GTR (or near enough).
