Hi guys

just bought myself a GTR which has been resprayed but the paint is covered in water marks from the car sitting in a garage for a while.

Ive used meguirs paint cleaner and then polymer sealant polish over the top and the marks are still the same. Even a decent buffing with lots of elbow grease does nothing :D

on the windows ive used the armor all glass cleaner and still nothing

i thought i might try a cutting polish on the windows to see if that works to get a similar result to cleaning r33 headlights

what have you guys done with watermarks? what works and what doesnt?

do you think regular washing will eventually wear down the marks?

thanks, its driving me nuts having new paint looking all spotty!

and yes, the search button on SAU isnt the most helpful thing around

I had the same problem with watermarks on the windows of my old car. No matter haw many times you washed it and scrubbed the windows, the marks were still there.

I used a cleaner called "Gumption" it comes in a white and green tub i think and consists of a gritty paste. You should be able to get it from any supermarket.

With a bit of elbow grease, this worked perfectly and the windows came up like new. I would say that cut and polish would work as well though, just try it and see.

anyone with anything else to add?

i had trouble with my old vl with purple paint and i left in the sprinklers for about 3-4 weeks and in the sun, which baked the marks on and was impossible to remove. i used a little (very very litte) diluted amount of CLR in a bucket of water and it actually worked a treat. though warning it says not for use on paint but i was selling the car anyway and it didnt damage the paint at all.

still took alot of elbow grease but fixed it in the end :(

upto u if u wanna try it, maybe try a small non-visable area first and see how it affects the paint. i wouldnt be doing it on a black or really dark colour though.

use t-cut colour fast..... gets rid of water marks, fine abrasions and scratches....

I use this too

All cut and polish pruducts and gumption work the same way!!

However I imagine the cut and polish products are gentler

Hang on a second - before you go and try all the Nanna recipes.

Are the 'water' stains calcium stains, ie white?

not really white like you would see in the bathroom, moreso, car thats been left in the rain and had the sun bake on the stains into the paint

what do you suggest if its calcium?

ive been slack and havnt tried anything yet :(

also, i didnt want to try t-cut just yet cause it is quite harsh on the paint (owing to past experiences)

If it is Calcium then try CLR Clear - but be careful with the paint work, ie try it on a bit on paintwork that is out the way & unseen first.

If it is just a water stain then try using dishwashing detergent - that will pretty much shift anything that is water soluble & a few things that aren't - like dead bugs. You will need to strip any polish off the paint first, otherwise the detergent won't get to the marks.

    • It is a kunfine Android screen . Does anyone know the wirering diagram of the fuga ??
    • just an update to this, poor man pays twice  Tried sanding down the pulleys but it didnt do the trick. Chucked another second hand alternator in the na car which I got for free off my mate and its fixed the squelling. Must have been unlucky with the bearings.    As for my turbo car, I managed to pick up a cwc rb alternator conversion bracket + LS alternator for 250 off marketplace, looked to be in really good nick. Installed it , started the car and its not charging the battery.... ( Im not good with auto elec stuff so im not sure if this was all I needed to do but I verified such by using a multimeter on the battery when the engine was running and I was only getting 12.2v )   I had to modify the earth strap for the new LS alternator , factory earth strap was a 10mm bolt which did not fit the bolt on the LS alternator which was double the size so I cut it off , went to repco bought some ring terminals that fit, crimped it onto the old earth strap and bolted it up to the alternator , started the car and same issue. Ran like shit and was reading 12.2 at the battery.  For a "plug and play" advertised kit thats not very plug and play but alas.  My question is , am I missing something ? Ive been reading that some people recommend upgrading the stock 80 amp alternator fuse to a 140 amp but I dont see how that would stop the alternator charging especially at idle not under load.  Regardless ive pulled it out and am going to get it bench tested by an auto elec tomorrow but it would be handy to know if ive missed something silly or have done something wrong.
    • My wild guess is that you have popped off an intake pipe....check all of the hoses between the turbo and the throttle for splits or loose clamps.
    • Awesome, thanks for sharing!
    • To provide more specific help, more information is needed. What Android screen? What is its wiring diagram? Does the car's wiring have power at any required BAT and ACC wires, and is the loom's earth good?
