just a q b4 i get some insurance -

does anyone know what the rules are regarding wheels in NSW? ie what size you can go to on an R33 S2 - currently, i have 18x10 DTM 078 (i think they're 10's) with 255/35 rubber? is this legal given the standard wheel size? some ppl say no more than one inch over factory/others say it is based on rolling diameter

I read a while back on the RTA site that they're not concerned about going from 16inch to 20inch or whatever, but so long as you get the profile right. This is because if you get the rolling diameter wrong your speedo will indicate a different speed to what your really doing. Which is why the RTA give a sh*t about. I'm stumped as to why cops say you can't go over 1 inch over standard.

Insurance companies however, in general don't let you go over 1 inch in rim width. They don't care about how big the rim is in height but the bigger width means bigger tyres, which means the tyres have a bigger chance of aqua-panning in the wet.

The ADRs have rules about rim width, nothing about diameters. Not sure of the exact width rule, check out the site. I thought the issue was the wheel bearings ability to take the extra load.

Aqua planing is just when the tyres lose touch with the road in the wet, sliding over the water. bad.

they are concerned with tyre width only. coppers only the 1 inch bullshit as a very very broad generalisation, they have simple minds remember?

im definate the 10 inch wide rims wont be allow on any r33.

wheel track is the distance from the middle of one tyre to the other tyre

Silver-Bitchass, I think you mean "aquaplaning" :D

btw, Nismodified for it right, the only regulation is wheel WIDTH, not wheel diameter. You can go as large a diameter as you like, as long as you don't go more than one inch wider than stock.

R33 GTS-ts came with 16x7 rims, so the largest you can fit is 8" wide rims. If you can find 22x8" rims, more power to you, and you're fully legal.

255 size tyres can fit on anything from 8" to 10" rims... That doesn't tell you much, you'll have to look at the rim, it will definitely have the dimensions stamped on the inside somewhere...

Also, just because you can get insurance for a car with a certain modification, it doesn't mean that it's legal.

Just Cars will insure your car with any modification you want. Quad T51R SPLs, 1000hp direct port NOS with neons on your FUL SIK Charade? No worries. But that doesn't mean that it's RTA legal.

      I might be way off the mark here.. there must be a T junction under the manifold. That takes manifold pressure through a check valve prior to the T, one side splits out to this bleed off orifice, the other straight to the wastegate actuators.

      Carrying out some engine due diligence before my first drive in a 260RS that has been in storage for 10+ years, and found two lines that are susposed to be plumbed into the boost control solenoid. One of the lines (the wastegate boost supply line) to actuate the gates, had a bolt in one end blocking it. The other line (main boost signal line) from the very rear of the intake manifold (RB26DETT) and runs up to the boost controller had this pill in the end of it as seen in photos. Other than the obvious (T28 Ceramic turbos might well be cooked)  Can anyone shed any light on if there is any validity at all with this mod, bleeding a constant fixed rate of manifold boost pressure off through this 3mm hole?  Is it deliberate?  Was this a 90s Jap mod done to RB26's? Or has someone just fitted this without any idea of what happens to ceramic T28s if they are not gate controlled?

      This looks great! Awesome to have the 5 speed with an LSD in this. The Recaro's look like SR2's or SR3's. It's a shame they've been retrimmed as they would have looked sweet in their original colours. I think I'd want my agent to be a little more up front and informative too. I've never imported but I reckon it would make me a little nervous, so the more info the better.

      Thanks for doing that Duncan! Makes you a good person in my books. We don't get kangaroos or wombats here. But we have bats and it's similar. AFAIK it's often the mums with a baby attached that get hit because they drop lower when starting from a tree.
