I am currently running 13psi on mine. I will be getting a tune pretty soon so might bump it up to 14psi, but I'm not willing to push it higher than that. Personally I am pretty stoked at the performance I am getting at 13psi so I don't feel the need to go much higher.

I have killed 2 X R34GTT turbos at 12 psi.

They don't make any more over a genuine 12 psi anyway, they heat soak the air so much you get detonation. So you have to retard the ignition timing and loose all the power you gained.

:) cheers :)

more boost doesnt mean more power

more boost means more power (well airflow) only when you are still in the efficency zone for the compressor wheel. past 12psi as others have said and its off the efficeny zone, so you just dial in more and more heat and it goes bang

90% of all stock turbos will blow at a genuine 15 psi if run there often.

It's not boost alone that makes them blow. It's boost and heat which makes the exhuast wheel delaminate.

Do a seach and see. This topic has been covered a 'few' times before.

Hey there,

So for all you guys that have had the turbo die on you, was the turbo ever subjected to continuous high heat levels, i.e., drifting, track racing, or continuous on/off throttle runs through the gears in short periods of time?

The R34 turbo's must have a small efficiency range if they start to die around 12psi, just seems low to me, and a very quick drop off. You'd be able to verify this on a dyno by looking at inlet temps at various psi.

The R33 turbo on my RB20 does make a fair bit more on the dyno at 1Bar (14.7psi) as opposed to 0.8bar (12psi), but it was on different dyno's, but using the same shootout mode. Inlet temps did not skyrocket either. R33 turbo's seem to be still good at 15ish- psi..... whereas R34's seem to go off at 12.

Fixxxer

Also shaft speed can be the killer. So just being on full song for a long long period can make it fail. Have seen a HKS 2530 fail with steel wheel so its possible to kill others also.

Fixxxer....

What power is the R33 turbs making on your Rb20?

Made 229HP@wheels at 0.82bar, held that all the way to redline I'm sure, with a ProfecA.

Think it made 247HP at 1bar, that was with the original owner, not the guy I bought it off. Might have been a few years ago but the graphs in the car.

Fixxxer

okay.

So thats 170rwkw at 0.8 bar

and 184rwkw at 1.0 bar.

the R34 Turbo on my car (which is an R34) made 200rwkw on 12 psi (0.8 bar) which is about 270rwHP

The R34 turbos are reasonably good for about 20 rwkw more on average than the R33 turbos due to their ability to flow much more through their exhaust housing.

BASS OUT

On an RB25 I wouldn't go over 12psi for the street. I blew mine at 13psi.

On an RB20 1 bar seems safe.

Just thought it would be funny to quote myself.

You can run more boost with any of these turbos if you have them fitted to an RB20.

    • Agreed, I've never seen a 260RS specific manual. As GTSBoy said it will mostly be stagea other than the engine loom https://www.hgeconsulting.com.au/stageaservicemanual.pdf
    • You'lll likely have to make do with R33 GTR for engine/tranny stuff, and Stagea for the body. I don't know that there's even been an actual diagram seen in the wild.
    • Haha, i kow right? Could have bought so many cars for the same amount of money (or less) but driving Unicorn gives you at least +1mln to style 😅. Like wise man said "life's to short to drink cheap wine and drive boring cars" 😉
    • Newbie here, proud owner of an Autech 260RS. I'm on the hunt for wiring diagrams specific to the 260RS, particularly S1. I've ran my eyes through R33, R34 Diagrams, there are some similarities, however continue to find incorrect wire colours and pins on connectors in the 33,34 diagrams.   I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction? I'd be happy to pay for the originals in Japanese. I can translate them, at least they would be accurate.   Any help please would be greatly appreciated, never heard an RB26DETT before let alone driven one, and I've got a spaghetti monster of goodness to sort out.   Cheers Benny
