:)

sooner or later they will be the ones that will vanish from australia..... to china .. where they belong :)

Man not even China will want them  ...

Honestly what would a transport minister know about an import. Hes just saying all this because thats what alot of the general voting population support. Its sad to say that if you drive an import you would be placed in the sterotype "hoon" category straight away because of some idiot's action while driving an import. Especially Skylines which are unfairly singled out from all the other imports, its like their favourite word to include when describing bad driving ,street drags etc. Alwell I guess we just got to show then that we can drive sensiblely and know to leave our testosterone for the tracks where they belong, that will shut them up eventually.

And yeah I respect all marks and models but I dont understand why does all the holden and ford look so damn ugly :P , I would hate to work in their designing section.

Yes the recent wankfest to reduce the roll toll has come up with all the old chestnuts, big fines, double demerit points, and of course their favourite, hotted up cars.

The only bloke with a sensible comment was Dick Johnson, "Don't blame fast cars, blame slow drivers".

The car licencing system is a complete joke, doesn't even do a 100kph highway driving test.

As for idiot Lucas, simple, vote him and the rest of Beattie's drongoes out.

Waah. Waah. Waah. Have a bit of a whinge. "I drive a Skyline and The Man hates me. Woe is me."

Every Nissan coupe gets picked on, whether its imported or not. You reckon Z32, S14 and S15 owners don't cop shit just because they're Australian delivered?

"I am also concerned about increasing numbers of second-hand Japanese vehicles being imported into Australia they've got to sell them out of Japan due to pollution rules,"

I would love to see his evidence to back his claims.

It was "Dont ban high performance cars... ban low performance drivers"

Thanks for the correction. I was so fumed at watching that crap show I muffed the only bit of smart advice.

haha, no worries mate, i learnt you just gotta laugh at those show

"I am also concerned about increasing numbers of second-hand Japanese vehicles being imported into Australia - they've got to sell them out of Japan due to pollution rules," he said.

What he conveniently forgets to mention is that Japan's registration laws are designed specifically to weed out cars older than around 5 years (I think its 5 years, its some low number). It doesn't matter if the car's modified - a dead stock Corolla is still not financially viable to register in Japan.

A stock 10 year old grey import is still going to be a lot less polluting than a stock XB Falcon, or a 30 year old Mini, that they're quite happy to keep on the roads.

But then a polly has never let the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth get in the way of cheap political points among the ignorant masses.

Japans registration laws are the way they are primarily for pollution - or so it would seem. The spiralling registration costs after a car hits 3 years old are just as much to do with keeping the car factories afloat (and the economy) as they are keeping a young, less polluting car fleet on the roads. This 'throwaway' mentality is pretty much the same for consumer electronics too... just so happens to be the other big industry in Japan.

Maybe that transport minister just got his new Holden Caprices ass handed to it by a humble Starlet GT?

That is also a fair point.

If the politicians are so concerned about pollution, how come they have to be driven around in Caprices and LTDs? Big inefficient fuel guzzlers that often only have the politician and the driver on board!

Not bad is it!

I think in some ways it comes down to some young person driving an old car faster than say an older person who has spent $50k+ on their brand new HSV, etc to get similar performance levels... worse of all the imports are less than $20k for the most part, so there is "how the hell can they drive a car with that amount of power, and yet it costs 1/3 the price of my car?". Then comes the "they just aren't experienced enough, those sorts of cars are unsafe, etc, etc" to justify in their own mind why younger people shouldn't be driving these sorts of cars.

They can throw things up about pollution, it being dangerous, but in the back of their minds I think that is getting their ticker.

Its affordable performance, and that is what makes the older generation nervous.

Importing cars is bad for Aussie economy its only a matter of time before they shut the whole thing down...

Having said that.... I rather my 96 model skyline than a new XR6T or SS, with money left over I can buy a "house."

Importing and exporting together actually raise the standard of living of a country above where it would be if it did not import or export.

Someone aught to remind the retard that Australians have been driving around in so-called 'domestic' cars since cocky was an egg that are pretty much assembled in Australia and thats about it. Most of the R&D, parts and everything else all imported, we just slap them together, usually badly if the newer Holdens and Fords reliability is anything to go by.

There are a couple of exceptions in this in terms of local cars, but by and large theyre not exactly great examples of workmanship. Find me a local product with the build quality, price, reliability and performance of a japanese car and I'll buy it, goodness knows I've spent the last 17yrs as a licence holder looking for an equivalent, think the closest I came finding one is a rebadged 323 called a laser :)

(And that folks is just damn sad!)

I think this sort of thing makes me annoyed to own a skyline. Getting lumped in with some of the crowd which drive them like complete and total knobs and have very little idea about what they are driving.

I really think it is the one thing I hate about owning a skyline, everyone expects you to be a hoon, drug dealer or similar. The random crap of people yelling out gets a bit annoying, even in the 6 weeks or so I have had it. Its gotta be the thing I hate most about the car.

    • jeebus. glad you weren't under it while performing the stunt. Also thanks for the link to the wheel measurer, exactly what I needed
    • In the older stuff there were very significant differences 2wd to 4wd, for example Stagea had strut front end for 2wd and double wishbone for 4wd so it was not minor to swap. From poking around the 2wd v37, it *looks* like it might be more possible; some of the parts specifically have "2wd" stamped on them which suggests the platforms are more similar. You'd still want to start with a 4wd half cut to swap stuff from though. I'd suggest if you don't have a tune on the ECU you don't really need one on the trans either. Throttle mapping is in the ECU side (and you can always use a Roar Pedal if you want the throttle to actually respond to your foot), and really if you are happy with the stock power you probably accept the stock trans behaviour too....its all made to be "sporty" not racey.
    • So, updates. I have not washed the car since it came back from Tassie. I've driven it around a bit but not got around to actually sorting it out. I DID raise it because I cracked the rear bar leaving a hotel which was very distressing. Interestingly, the car drives more compliant now that it's raised a fair bit (5mm front, 15mm rear). Also noticed that my FR height was 10mm lower than FL. So that's now sorted out, too. I also bought this and had it printed: https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/1576422240/wheel-and-tire-fitment-tool-universal?ref=shop_home_feat_1&dd=1&logging_key=08f604d9fa4cc383550ba985e6ac85cd5cac7fbb%3A1576422240 Now, if I was smart I would have taken my brake calipers off to actually use this correctly but it was evident enough to me that in the region where the caliper was... there was nothing to hit suspension/guard/arm wise. So I'm going with "it'll be fine" after using the tool to hopefully very precisely measure the wheel clearance. Also while doing this, I had the very VERY bad idea of jacking one of the wheels/suspension arms up while the rest of the car was on jack stands. I did this to see how the arm would travel. This all was well and good until the car slid off the stands and went through a fence. So don't do that. Incredibly nobody was hurt and there was only minor damage to the rear bumper as the car didn't have far to slide, and had 3-4 wheels on it. The only damage turned out to be the fence itself which was easy to fix, and a little bit of damage to the fibreglass rear bumper trim. I had already planned to try a touch up paint kit to fix the time I drove into my garage door to see if it'd help in the interim before I get it fixed properly. I used the Dr Colorchip kit after looking online and seeing everyone talking about it. Yes it's made for chips and not huge broken missing pieces and I'll be 500% recommending it for stone chips after using it for stupid things like me. This took about ... 10 minutes and looking at the half assed photo the 30 second job I did on the bumper corner was almost perfect just by using the tiny little brush and painting it in. The sealact stuff to remove over-painting is really useful, so if/when I do it again I'll likely slather the touch up paint well over it and then clean it up with the cleaning solution. The wheels should arrive in a couple of weeks. I am still kinda confident after doing a stupid amount of measuring (and borrowing a set of 18x10.5+15) that they will not fit because I overlooked something, somehow and flew too close to the sun. ALSO R34 GTR guard liners do not fit on a GTT. I bought the undertray brake duct guides and had the wonderful problem of them not fitting my intake, my oil cooler and the liners themselves were even worse. Attempting to fit them won't work in general - You would have to cut them up as another poster mentioned as the bodywork is different on the GTT. At least I can try to resell them. So instead of cutting those up, I cut up my old already-cut-up GTT liners and extended them by using some PP plastic and drilling some 8mm holes for some nissan clips for the 'extra' bit. Because I was happy to cut them I was able to mount them pretty damn forward so I now have some semblance of guard liners, and the brake vents seal the bumper from the bottom. It sort-of-looks like this, to give some idea - If you look at the GTR and then the GTT this is when I realised that I needed to seriously measure as the inside of the rim area is entirely, entirely, entirely different and could not take any internet measurements for granted.
    • If you are Ecutek tuned then these TCU tunes are anywhere from $550 to $700 usd. If you are not ECUTEK tuned, then it gets costly!
    • Sorry to hear your HFM BM57 was faulty,  did you contact HFM I would hope they would be at least grateful for the information if there was some sort of manufacturing fault, you would hope they would be sympathetic even if your item was 2 years old if it had never been fitted. May I ask where it leaked from ?
