Hey hows it going everyone,

wondering if anybody could help me, ive been given a blown standard R33 turbo and decided i want to rebuild it and put it on my skyline R33, but hi flowed and i wanted to find out what internals are the biggest and the best to use in producing the most power out of the turbo also if i should use ball bearing or roller bearing and if i should go double bladed also any other ideas thanks guys!

P.S would T4 or T66 blades fit in or could i go bigger and are they good ?

those sort of wheels are way too large for the stock turbine housing. it sounds like the combo would yield a surge monster as the compressor side is just too large. the standard hiflow is good for about 260rwkw with cams so that should be plently. if you want more power then go for an off the shelf item instead of trying to make the hiflow "flow" more as it wont correctly, it could either surge its ass off, be laggy as all hell or not even make more power.

Ive never seen a hi-flow make 260rwkw??

GCGs hi-flow seems to be the biggest and will make at max 240rwkw (rb25 not rb20), but generally expect around 220-230rwkw. You do pay for it though!!

Most hi-flows will get you around 20-30hp more atw and aren't worth their price tags from what ive seen!

My GCG Hiflow has put out 249rwkw to date, hoping for more after exhaust manifold, oil cooler and a better dump pipe have been installed this week

EDIT: That is without cams to, PFC, 16psi, FMIC,Injectors, Pump, Greddy Plenum, Q45 Throttle, Dump / Exhaust / Pod etc.

Ill keep you updated with the figures it makes when i put the other stuff on, i have been told i can expect 370 / 380rwhp @ 20ish PSI

Well im happy to stand corrected!

Very impressive figures, the first thing i thought was 16psi you have a few more psi to play with and then i read the end of ur post... lol

Generally ppl dont use Q45 and Greddy Plenum which would help free up air flows and make more hp which could explain your higher than 'average' figure.

Yeah i have noticed not to many people take the same path i did, i have heard that the hiflows can get up to 20-22psi, so once i get the other stuff fitted im hoping to push as much as i can get out of it (without putting anything at risk of death). I have been considering getting some cams and and an adjustable gear, this might help me get those figures a little bit higher again so im going to look into that tommorow :(

My combo is currently making 274rwkw@16psi with VG30 ext. housing, cams and head porting, on a Dyno Dynamics Dyno. I opted to stop there as my bottom end is still standard, in fact i lowered the boost a fraction to keep it at 260rwkw.

As nice as that sounds the turbo will probably not make your "expected" figure, as i beleive it will run past it's effiency range well before then. I would estimate a hi-flow combo is probably good for about 290rwkw, maybe 300 max. More boost=more heat=declining power line. These turbos were not designed to run such high psi, yes they have been upgraded, etc., but they are still just a small factory turbo. But hey, i wish you all the best.

watch the gcg highflows, had a fellow forum member buy one and bolted it on and found the wastegate mounting spot was wrong and the gate was open fulltime, meaning full boost. not very good at all, and coulda cost him a motor as well, not to mention the costs of reinstalling (over $400) and 5 days without a car as well.

isolated case i know but this still happens so check those actuators r closing correctly before u install them!!!

If the actuator/wastegate was "open" full time the turbo would not boost, thus no harm to the engine. Still a very stupid fault from a turbo manufacturer.

the wastegate was stuck open so i was hitting FB at 4500rpm. I was amazed others with the GCG said it was just as responsive as stock....mine wasnt :)

Its all fixed now, but the $200 i saved on the turbo, cost me $400 in the end to get a workshop to fix it. Kinda annoying as i would have really expected better from GCG. Good turbo regardless, but f**k...annoys the shit out of and my wallet.

Open wastegate= no boost , or very little boost .

Shut wastegate = unlimited boost, only limited by the turbo.

    • Thanks guys,  Yeah I should at least have them dynoed, at least then I know what I've got as a starting point.  The springs on these are hard as rocks. I vaguely remember Russman saying he was going to sell the shocks to me with the rocks fitted, as he was keeping the softer springs for his new setup.  I didn't click at the time but of course that was to let me know the shock/spring wouldn't be matched.  I also remember pricing up new springs around 2014-15, but, house, money etc. it never happened. So that was another reason to have them rebuilt. I have rebuilt the forks on many motorcycles so I think I could handle the seals on these easily enough, but getting the valving right would be a rabbit hole I cbf exploring.  Duncan, interesting to hear RP was tuning these back then. I might give them a call.  In the mean time I have been busy fitting sway bars. The Whiteline rear sway bar I purchased 15 years ago finally got fitted, along with the Whiteline front bar that showed up last week. Just waiting on new links for the front sway bar to finish that off.  And my spare set of advan AVS VS5's should be back from the powder coaters in a Pearl White finish sometime this week, with a set of Hankook RS4's lined up for fitting.  And then I just have all the suspension bushes to do. A comprehensive kit is on the way... Lots to do before the Ararat hill climb. Cheers guys 🍻

I’m glad folks in the US have gotten past the FnF and are buying real cool cars like the 260RS I was with a bunch of mates in Portland about a year ago and spotted a green Stagea (just a regular 2.5T AWD) parked about 2 blocks away and they were like “a what?” So I made a bet with them for a round of beers and said “ok one of you run down there and tell me if the steering wheel is on the correct side” 5 mins later the American comes trudging back up the hill and goes “he’s right guys. Ok what beer do you want?”
